Hello !
Queens bday - as far as i know ( ie - this will for sure change many times :) the Thai team has been picked and they are being matched up to foreign fighters. The weight range is up to 57/58 kgs - i will check details and try to post the fighters names and records.
They are still seeking fighters - mail the WMC at wmcifma@hotmail.com for full details.
I'm retired now - age 'n' injuries :) too lazy to fill in a profile - Niamh, from Ireland and fought 30 ( ?) times. mostly in Thailand so im pretty definete about the 5 rounds and for sure took a few elbows.
i think that thai women fighters are underrated just cause we dont know about them. dan has been doing great work getting the japanese scene known and hopefully we can do the same with the thais as the sport grows here.
please dont judge the standard by the fights you see in patpong ! like i said in the article on dan's site, its estimated there are about 8-10,000 women fighters in this country, most of whom are in thier teens. sure, they are not up there with Khem sor pleonchit or sangchai but neither are most foreign fighters - i think we hold them to too high a standard considering how recent it is that they can fight professionally.
there is a lot of stigma attached to women in this country being fit and strong - never mind doing the toughest ring-sport in the world. they definetly dont get enough credit but that is changing.
its great to see connections between the wmc and Songchai - the wmc have been pushing womens fighting here for a long time and hopefully the 2 of them will bring the fights right up there !!
course the best way to promote this, is for promoters in europe and australia to bring thai women to fight and send western fighters over here. hint hint for all you organisers out there :)
