The show looks like it is going to be great. Some quality people on the bill. Is there any change to the line up? How many people can get into the venue, is it a big show? Can't wait, I hope this gets a lot of support.

I thought Morven Durick was fighting Ruth Davies. Has this changed?
Sid Remmer
Posted: 2006-06-14 13:51:23
Everything changes, then changes again! Its one of the risks I take in posting the fight card so early. Thats why I suggested that you should expect some 'shuffling' in the first posting on this thread. Anyway, yes Mordan - well spotted. As far as I know (at this moment) Ruth Davies will be fighting Morvan.

And I would like to say a heartfelt thanks to all the fighters and trainers for helping me to put this show together.

New news - Karen Ousey will be one of the judges. Cool.

Tickets are back from the printers - at last! So Ill be sending them out with some posters etc to the participating gyms tomorrow. If any other gyms want a poster, or want to sell tickets from thier gyms, please mail me.

Im starting to look forward to it now :-)

This is the first time we have ever seen female fights other than novices, so were really looking forward to the show.

On behalf of myself and Angela we want publicly thank Sid for giving us this opportunity to fight, its impossible for us to get fights in Ireland we are the only club in Northern Ireland and there’s only a handful in the South of Ireland and no one will ever pay for novices to come to England.

We are really grateful to Sid there will definitely pints for you after the show.

Hello Sid mate,

I'll be there good luck with it all :-)
Sid Remmer
Posted: 2006-06-28 07:57:32
Well thanks guys/girls. You made me blush.

Back to the show - ticket sales have been really slow so far :-(

When I started putting the show together, two well known and respected trainer/promoters advised me not to do it. They said I would lose my shirt. Well I dont expect a profit but I would dearly love to keep my shirt!

C'mon guys/girls, see if you cant support this show. A little positive discrimination cant hurt the female's cause. Ive tried hard for the show not to be seen as a 'circus'. Its really about female empowerment. Thats why Im particularly pleased that we have a full thai rules fight on. Even the Thais dont have 5x3 bouts for their females - Id say that puts the girls 'equal' to the boys.

Plymouth is only a few hours from London (I know cos I make that tip often, drive up in the morning - showcase the fighters - drive back at night). Theres an airport here and some cheap deals to be had at http://www.skyscanner.net/gbp/?adults=3&single=true&redirecturl=27Url

And if any of you fancy making a weekend of it (its nice down here), then we have almost exclusive use of the Universities summer accomodation suites (used for visiting dons etc.) Its just like having our own Olympic village!

Loads of info here

Can you help me prove those cynical promoters wrong and give the girls a good crowd of support?

This will be a great show-I hope everyone supports it.

The matchups are exceptionally good.

People on my BB have been picking Jones by KO.
Kitchen by points, and Carter by KO.

I wont make a prediction; but I wish I could be there.
If I lived in the UK, i most certainly would attend.

Cant wait to hear the results.

will a dvd be available later?

62% of Rachel Jones' wins have come by KO-(against good opponents) and that's a very high KO percentage for any fighter. If anyone wants to see pics of Rachael Jone's bareknuckle KO win in thailand,
go to http://www.womenkickboxing.com/rachel_jones_vs_thailand.htm

To make this even more interesting, Linda Ooms is a straight ahead very agressive fighter who never backs up, or shows her opponents much respect. She has very good boxing skills, good hands, and is ruthlessly aggressive. She recently fought seven time world champion, Ilonka Elmont to a draw.
Ooms has more than 20 fights of experience which is a lot for a female fighter

She will not be running or showing Rachel Jones any respect.
So, something has to give.

And btw, neither can afford to lose this international prestige fight-as both are being considered for WIKBA Inter continental title fights. and for Ooms, probably a world title shot against Sachiyo Shibata IF she beats Jones.

In addition, Nicky Carter is right bbehinbd Stepyneee Bouquet as a challenger to Germaine de Randamie's WIKBA world title. So, she also needs a big win.
In fact, five of the six women on this card are internationally ranked. three in the top ten

as for 5'10" Julie Kitchen, she really knows how to use her heighth, she just came off a big prestigious win over Karla Hood, and her opponent Lucy Hunking, is a very formidable opponent who fought in the first women's 8 man in NZ, I Hunks may have fought against the eventual tournament winner? in any event, all of these women are on a roll right now, and all are expecting a big win.

I am astonished that this wasnt sold out a month ago. If i were in the UK or the Netherlands, France or Belgium, I would definitley fly into Plymouth for this event. It will be a cracker!

That last pic was Linda Ooms (blue gloves)vs Ilonka Elmont.

here is Rachael Jones bare knuckle KO in Thailand. she has won her last three fights by KO. Her opponets seem crumple whne she connects. Ooms will need a strong chin. And she has never been stopped. Plus she isnt coming all the way from the Netherlands to let Rachel Jones derail her title fight.
Ooms doesn't intend to leave it in the hands of the jury either!

she is looking for a showndown with the WIKBA Worrd Champion, Iron Lady, Germaine de Randamie. But, first she must get past her Belgian opponent, Saty Maes on jUly 8, in Plymouth, England.

hi, jus to say good luck to all the fighters on this promotion esp rach, you can do it girl!! i am one of rachels walking talking punch bags and i know she is capable of beating ooms. this will be an excellent fight for rach as linda ooms is a tough and very creditable opponent. i will be there to cheer rachel on all the way. cant wait!!!

====A fight of this calibre doesnt happen very often. I hope there will be plenty of people there cheering their favorite. I wish we had more USA promoters willing to bring in fighters the caliber of these.

btw, Ooms is more than simply credible. She is an exceptional fighter of world class abilities. She has fought in several different countries against top notch opposition, and is winning about 80% of her fights, and has around twenty fights to her credit. She is a bvery smart and poised fighter.
And yet, she has her work cut out for her, because Rachael Jones has a way of totally exploding on her opponents-a couple of whom were *reportedly* "winning" the fight until the hammer fell. Rachael just doesnt let many opponents hear the final bell. Maybe she doesnt trust judges. hehe.

I believe Rachel's ko percentage may actually be 75% rather than the 62% that I previously stated. I will have to recheck the stats.

But no matter, this will be a cracker!

and remember, we have Kitchen, 9 recnt winner over Karla Hood) vs Lucy Hunking and also Nicky Carter vs Satya Maes, and some other good bouts.

I sure hope dvds will be made of this historic all womens show.

Sid Remmer
Posted: 2006-07-04 12:30:33
DVDs should be ready a fortnight after the show. Dont worry, Ill let you all know ;-)

But of course - nothing like being there........
dan

But of course - nothing like being there........

===exactly! Nothing quite like being there with groundbeaking historic first for the UK. I hope there's a large and enthusiastic crowd
there to really pump these fighters up.

Suggestion: Charge enough for the dvds to equal a ring side
ticket price. dvds should be a last resort for those who live across the sea, and really can't fly in.

I still can't get a feel for whats gonna happen with Ooms and Jones.
How will Ooms respond if Jones unloads the hammer and she goes down?...Ooms has never been stopped, but Jones has stopped her last 3 opponents and seems
to have found herself as a fighter. Will Ooms try to change tactics and kick and move around or, will she bore in and try to beat Jones at her own game: punching. You wont see a lot of clinching by either of these two, so the action will be fast and furious.

And please post the results promptly.==

Yo Jo (ive a GPZ 1000rx based custom streetfighter - took me 2 yrs to build!)

The line up is still solid - ive had to shuffle a couple of the undercard fights but nothing serious. All the title fights and the prestigue bout are cool. Ill put the undercard changes up once ive confirmed with the trainers.

And the tickets have started moving now - big thanks to Dan. Might even be a sellout!

Still 2 6-seater VIP tables left at £200. 1st come, 1st served :-)

Great idea and Fair play to Sid, many of you know how long ive campaigned for Women's Fights and Moreso
5 x 3 min rounds, I promoted ( with Paul Hennessey Sanction ) the First Womens World Title Over 5 x 3 min Rounds on my Bolton show a few years ago, i Brought Karen ousey 9mm Up from Devon v her French opponent over, and Billed it as "Ladies World Title Top of the Bill" over all the Other 10 Mens Fights, i stuck my neck out and With the help of one of my then Instructors and Champions ( Karens other Half ) Howard Hughes and Karen helped me with some Sponsorship from there hometown ( 300 miles from me ) it paid off !
And karen Won her First World Title. Top gal and Fighter )Miss Ousey "9mm" ...i gave her that Nickname btw, it well suits her great fighting style !
Point is, Karen Fought 5 x 3 mins "A"-Class, for what ive been campaigning fo,
And as Did My Fighter a couple of years later in California U.S.A.
Jussy Lowe from Our / my Bolton-Thai-Boxing-Club Beat World Champion Sachiyo Shibata over 5 x 3 Mins !
Once again Proving my Theory that Ladies are as good as the men in the same Arena and ring !!!
Anyway its now All about Sids Show and These " Fantastic Fighting Females "
I say Come and support it for sure !
Dont be afraid to travel
Iam going the 620 mile round Trip from Sunny Bolton by the sea im sure many of you live closer get your asses down there its a beautiful part of Great Britain
Nice One Sid i Really hope it pays off for you.

Think Sid became the only Cristian Ronaldo and Portugal fan in GB. :)
But I hope it turned out good. These kind of shows deserve more attention. But still, even if you are not a soccer fan or like the World Championship Soccer, there is Wimbledon and the Tour and summer holiday's. Scary month to setup a show.... But hope it worked out well.

This post is from 'Sid the trainer'. Ill do a 'Sid the promoter' response shortly.

All my girls did me proud. My novice Becky lost the decission but it was such a close fight and could have gone either way. She faught to the best of her abilities and made me very proud.

Julie Elliott was a surprise for the Keddles team - I think they thought Rebecka was in for an easy win? For a lot of the fight, Julie looked the stronger fighter and several times had Rebecka backed up with nothing in response. Julie just gets better with each fight and she loves it. Although she lost the decission, I rekon her ranking may well increase (Dan/Richard?).

Ruth Davies won (all three rounds) and impressed me enough for me to start looking for 'heads' for her. Girls in the 54kg range watch out!

Christi Campbell faught well for a draw. Me and her opponant Sally McCarthy's trainer Lorne Castle found a minute after the fight to congratulate each other on our juniors. I think theirs was the fight of the night in terms of range of techniques, agression, fitness and above all - heart! Amazing! Either of these girls can take it all the way if they can keep to the sport through their school years.

So, though we (Saints)had 1 win, 1 draw and two losses, the figures dont tell the whole story and I want to tell Becky, Ruth, Julie and Christi that they all did our club proud. Thanks :-)

congrats to all the girls fighting on this show,i caught glimpses of most of the fights and they were all close and of a high standard, sally and christie showed that age means nothing in a first class title fight and are a credit to lorne and sid, julie elliott also pulled out an amazing performance against a top class opponent rebecca donelly,i was really pleased with the julie v lucy rematch fight, the first in october was a close call, and lucy is a very underestimated tough fighter from a top gym,so we took this rematch very seriously, julie has really stepped up her game and showed this throughout the 5 rnds and fought a perfect fight, she is also an underestimated fighter, and it was good to see sandee judging as he commentated their first match and im sure he saw also that julie has improved greatly, was nice to catch up with everyone and meet the scottish team before the fights, shaun k,i had kajagoogoo played at the 80s bar,but you and kieran let me down for a dance off, hope niki,s back is ok,nathan

Dan/Eric - attendance was pretty good. Think that the hall filled up nicely, there was a good atmosphere particularly for the later fights when it was busier. There was a photographer etc.. around so guessing there will be photos to follow as well.

That was my last fight for various reasons. Guess one of the main being that not fighting regularly (that was my 2nd fight in over a year) and also not fighting to my ability - time to focus on other things. (trainer(s) can now breathe a sigh of relief..lol!) Will always be training though because love thai boxing! (besides it's my anger management) Julie did fight a perfect fight though so not to take anything away from her and is definately a 63.5kg fighter now, so hopefully she'll be getting more fights at a weight that suits her.

Becca vs Julie Elliot was a good fight.. as you say Sid, Julie defo did surprise, she had obviously trained hard for the fight and looked good in the clinch so best of luck to her, though i know that Becca wasn't at full fitness.

One thing though - Plymouth is too far away!..lol! Rich's pole dancing has kept me laughing... think i'll have to get him some classes for his birthday or something - discovered a new side to him!

What a brilliant show, congrats Sid and thank you for the opportunity. I enjoyed my fight with Linda, it was, in my opinion, a good fight for me and totally different to any of my other fights, more technical and it went all 5 rounds-that's the first time ive done 5 rounds to the end and im really glad it went to points (and that I won!)
Unfortunately i didnt get to see many of the other fights but my husband tells me that the junior fight Christi and Sally, was the fight of the night. Well done girls I cant wait to see the DVD, the other fight he was really excited about was Julie's and Lucy's fight- i caught the last minute of that fight whilst I was waiting to come out and it looked like a cracker. Lucy its a real shame you wont be fighting again you are a top fighter with lots of style.
The only fights I saw were the first three
Becky Masters (Saints) vs Angela (Belfast) Angela won that fight, both those gils fought with a lot of heart. Becky boxed well but i thought Angela used a bit more of a range of techniques. Both girls did really well though they should both be pleased with the fight.
Tracy Richards (WAKT) vs Ann Niven (London Thai) that was a win to Ann, this was a light contact fight apparently (didnt look very light from where i was sitting has to be said) because of a weight discrepancy but im not sure what that was. Tracy came tearing out in the first round and i think tired, i thought she won the first round and Ann the next two- this was a cracker of a fight very skillful,
The Julie and Rebecka fight was also a really good fight, Julie i think was the stronger in the clinch but Rebecka boxed really well and really took the fight to Julie. I thought Julie got better as the fight went on but Rebecka just didnt let up and kept going forwards. Another really good fight and a well deserved win to Rebecka.
I cant wait for the DVD so I can watch the other fights.

They both lost on points.

Cheers for a great show Sid, Glad we made the long trip down and thanks to the guys that came all the way to pick us up from bristol.
Really nice to meet everyone and Morven loves the fact that Rachel Jones wore her gloves to warm up and Lucy Hunking took the time out to go check on Ann while Morven was down stairs warming up.

Nice to meet Kieran Keddle, heard so much about him and have to say made me laugh with his relaxed attitude towards the sport, that also has to go for the Bradford lot as well.

The junior fight was awesome and the fight just never seemed to slow down, two defo prospects for the future.

The Irish, well what can I say but laugh and cheers for being a big help to us as well. Jamie, Chris will be gunning for you upon his return to Northern Ireland. har har har.

Cheers once again

? thats the going rate for an 8"x12" print isnt it? Thats what I pay Ringpics anyway. And theres about 30+ shots of each fight - you have to click the drop - down box.

Dont know about greedy, the guy will probably only sell a dozen prints and I guess his profit wont be much more than a fiver? Not a lot for a whole nights work.

i know of two recent shows where i have supplied and paid a wage to a photographer sid and you have recieved your photos for free off me, to use as you wish, website etc,you have also said on another show that people have no right to charge you for photos of your fighters and that they should pay you, i think the world of you as a friend sid,and dont want bad vibes, but this sucks.this guy is a great photographer, but i dont think he has shot a fight show before, check out ruth ashdowns pics on muaythai on line, thats how its done, and they are not a tenner each!if every instructor paid 20 quid each for a disc of pictures of their fighters,he would have earnt about £200 plus, thats not bad for a days work,i hope he gets fuck all.

gotta agree with nath ... for a man to charge you for pics of your own fighters is a bit rich, do the photographers ask permission from the fighters or there managers/trainers before takin the said pictures in the first place ... i dont think so.. sid you stuck your neck out on this and bloody well done to you but you gotta admit even the pics that are action shots aint worth a tenner.... if the people that took the photos offered them at a massively reduced rate to the people that are actually in them it would go some way to easing the blow ........ fighters in this country in my opinion are not paid a tenth what they deserve so for somone to come along and try to empty there pockets or purses for photos of themselves is not on .... again just my humble little ole opinion ..

You can't blame the photographer, it all depends on the deal done with the promoter. If the promoter does not pay the photographer to cover the event and supply images to fighters then why should the photographer supply them to anybody free of charge?

I dont think that that is an unfair price for fight photos.

You are not talking about snapshots, but high resolution images that can be enlarged and framed. You dont actually have to buy the ones you dont like!

But if there is an image that you do like and you do buy it, it may well be worth its weight in gold when you are 65yrs old trying to get your Grandkids to believe you could walk upright in the past.

First Sid thank you for making this event possible! I think it is a good thing woman get the chance to fight and show their skills! I hope other promotors will follow Sid!

About my fight, it was for me the first time to fight full mauy thai rules. I think it was a good fight and for a good fight you need two fighters! However, me and my trainer don´t think I had lost this fight. I´m really curious about the tape. We will check it and then I we can give our opinions about it.

Hi Linda. What a pleasure you and your trainer Ken are to work with. Any other promoter putting Linda into thier show can expect an easy time - no fuss - no problems.

Im sorry that you feel the decision went the wrong way - it went the 'wrong way' for a couple of my fighters too, so at least you know for sure that there was no promoter interference in the decisions! There were a lot of close fights on the night - down to good matchmaking :-)

Re the photographer: There was no money in the pot to hire a photographer + transport + accom, just to give the images away (which I have done on other shows), so I 'sold' the idea of "comission only" to the photographer. If people like the shots, they buy them and if they dont, they dont. At least this way we got a professional photographer there! This is why the images were ready 3 days after the show, cropped and edited and in high resolution.

Ruth Ashdown emailed me that she was probably coming and I offered her a free ticket and ringside access if she took some photos. In the event, she couldnt make it (which is a particular shame from my point of view as I have not yet met her and would like to).

And finaly, I invited one more professional photographer to attend, this time to enrich his own portfolio - free ticket, access to ringside etc. His deal is that I get all the shots to 'give' away, but only at low/medium resolution (fine for websites and small prints). I expect his CD of picis on Monday and these are the shots I can make public.

Nathan mate, you couldnt offend me. I know what you are like! Though if you had phoned me or sent an email, we could have avoided the negativity. When will you learn to trust me?

Sorry for late response - lost password!

Thanks Sid for putting on this show - it really was great and its such a shame that females in sport dont get the support that they deserve - the concept was great and even though it is a risk I think that for Thai-Boxing it is well worth putting more on - the more that girls see other girls competing then the more females are likely to get in to thai boxing. Howard & Karen put on a great girls only interclub last year which again was popular and Denise fought in Bill Murrys Lady Killers - girls only Kickboxing in 2004 in Ireland which was packed.

Sally Vs Cristie - what can I say....Great fight! Considering that these 2 are just 14yrs old what a fight, the pace never slowed and both showed a great variety of moves from Boxing, Knee and Kick. Thanks to everyone for their great words to Sally afterwards - especially to Sandy Holt - that meant a lot and will drive her on.

There were some other great fights with Julie Kitchen looking so sharp and strong - always great to watch and I am looking looking forward to seeing ya on my show!

Also was great to see Linda and Satya and Rachel on the same show in the UK - Well done Sid.

Hi guys,
well what a weekend in sunny plymouth by the sea ( true lol )
well i burnt my shoulders and forehead lol, that was the day after the fights checking out where sir francis drake played bowls before the spanish armada came for some clotted cream, scones, and stopped for tea and a kicking lol
anyway back to the "real stuff"
the fights sat: eve accounts-
i landed after 5.5 hours and a 315 miles drive by car
from sunny bolton-by-the-sea ( a bit of sun a lot less sea )
after speaking to, and was greeted by sid and his good lady wife, i settled into the fights and was chief / head judge for all 10 bouts.
Gotta say they was very well matched considering the headache sid must've had promoting these !
the first and last all girls fights was up norfff up here in oldham by steve costigan,
over 10 years ago, i had 3 girls on that show and remember it pretty well ( anyone else ? )
i and the other judges all agreed and told sid the best fight of the eve was without doubt the 2 young teenagers who fought like adult males yet remained feminine and composed the whole 5 rounds, awesome display,
only snag the top ten headguards are def; not the best, it came off about 5 times, bless sid, he was getting more frustrated than the fighter, well done to christi campbell ( saints ) and sally mccarthy sukothai bournemouth.
All the fights was good and a credit to themselves and their trainers !
well done sid for putting your neck on the line promoting a all girls show,
the hall was 3/4 full and the crowd did get into it after a wee bit,
good to see fighters from england, scotland, ireland, holland !
( only downside the thai-music ) sid i will buy you some next time, lol
lastly on the way down i got pulled over just 10 miles from plymouth for
a) speeding,
b) driving recklessly,
c) no seat belt
d) eating a ice lolly coming out onto slip road from petrol, as i was clean out
( used stinking £50 to get there / same again to get back ) :-((
i thought i was gonna be late for pre-fight meeting / rules etc:
in fact no meeting i was on time and show started 45 mins late lol oh well haha :-p
and after sitting in the nice policeman's car for 20 mins watching my driving on his video playback........
I pleaded guilty and sorry and he asked me what i did ? where i was going ? driving so fast etc: ?
and i told them i was a judge and a thai-boxing instructor etc: from bolton-thai-boxing-club
they must've felt sorry for me ?
they gave me a small telling off and let me off for all the others just got a £30 fine no seat belt ( thankyou mr kind plymouth policemen )
and check this .................
they then gave me a police escort to the show !
true, as they asked me did i know where the venue was?
How lucky was i ?
quality weekend worth losing nearly £200 for ! :-p
p.s. Photos to follow

The fight was judged fairly and independantly. The contest was judged to be rachaels fight by 2 clear rounds by two of the judges and by 3 rounds by one judge. it is unlikely three independant judges from different areas of the country would get it wrong.

I have watched the video myself and believe the result a fair and honest one. Rachael was the aggressor throughout the clash with Linda fighting defensively. Though it must be said exceptionally well. Maybe a little too much rope holding in the clinch. But then thats the refs job to resolve swiftly.

The fight was an excellent test for both girls but linda had more than three times the number of fights and was the favourite.

The next one for Rachael will be 24th on Master skens Show against Ilonka Elmont....

5.5 mins for a round is a real oversight though,it could have realy made a difference, was it supposed to be 5x2 mins??
Linda Ooms
Posted: 2006-08-25 07:52:29
The fight was supposed to be 5x3 minutes. Honestly, I hadn´t noticed the first round was 5,5 minutes until I saw it on dvd and somebody said to me that round is much longer than 3 minutes!

I have fought 22 fights and that´s not 3 times Rachel´s fights. If two judges gave Rachel 2 rounds, who got the other three?;)

I can´t post the fight myself (I don´t know how to do it). Maybe someone else can. The part of the fight you can see on the forum is in the fifht round. My arm is stuck in the ropes and I can´t get it out. I´m shouting that to the referee but he didn´t see it right away. I had to put my other arm in front of my face but if you can see the whole fight you will see I can fight right away after this accident. You will have a whole different view of the fight then.

Its a real surprise to me too - i didnt notice even when editing the film! Ive just checked and it was indeed 5min 30secs. I can only assure both fighters that it was in no way intentional. Ill be looking out for the timekeeper next time he comes to the gym!

I dont think that I should express a view as to who I thought won, but for those that didnt get to see the show, Heres the Jones v Ooms fight.

BE WARNED even though its low res and uses 'agressive' compression , this is still a big file (about 140meg i think) and it will take about an hour to buffer up. If your not using broadband - dont even go there!
The DVD quality file is about ten times the size and can be downloaded in parts, then put back together again using software at the fightvid.co.uk site. But that will cost you a quid ;-)

The rounds were given to Jones winning two rounds by two judges and a one judge by three rounds. The other two/three were seen as drawn.

In deed you are right on the occasion in question you have your arm caught. No despute. even Jones is seen alerting the ref and does not take unfair advantage of the situation.

I refered to other rounds where you take jones to the rope and lock on. Im familiar with the technique and see it as it is. I do not infer wrong doing or foul play. Just observe the technique was employed.

I think that if you are unhappy with the decision a rematch is a must. Im not confident trying to convince others you won is the way forward. I will ask Dave to set it up in the future after the Elmont fight should you wish.

I cannot enter into further debate as I did not judge the contest.

Oh and my apologises to you Linda. You have had twice the fights jones has. Still an advantage in my book. But I was incorrect and happily correct my statement which at best was an ill informed guess on my part.
lee murray
Posted: 2006-08-25 11:02:13
Final thought.

If indeed the first round lasted longer than the scheduled 3 minutes a formal apology might not go a miss. Whilst there is not need for split timing precision an oversight of more than two and a half minutes is criminal. Had a fight deciding incident occurred during that overtime it would have cast the sport into disrepute.

Money saved cutting corners using untrained staff can in the long run cost a promotor dearly.

As neither fighter had an advantage and both were dealt the same hand I dont think theres too much to discuss. If nothing it showed the stamina of both girls and that adds to their credit.

Ive watched the fight and didnt notice it. Linda didnt and nor did Jones so in the grand scheme of things what the hell?

Linda Ooms

I conveyed your opinions to Rachael and she's disapointed that you feel as though you won. She holds you in the utmost respect and I feel rightly expresses concern that you argue the decision once you have returned home. The time to disagree was straight after the fight.

However, I will most cetainly request that dave attempts to organise a rematch sooner rather than later. THough you will appreciate its Ilonka V Rachael next so it will be later this/early next year.

I am shocked however; you say the fight ought to be in Holland? Do you feel the dutch judges are biased to a home fighter and thats the edge you require or that the UK judges are remiss in their capabilities in any way? The panel of judges that scored the fight are Karen Ousey. A respected and very capable woman and a quality fighter, Sean Toomey. Again massively experienced promoter and trainer at the highest level and Sandy Holt who is all of the above and something of a thai boxing pundit who prides himself on impartiality. Almost to the point of controversy. If indeed you feel your fight was awarded the wrong decision. Put it right next time.

At long last I had the opportunity to view the DVD of All Female Show d.d.
july, the 8th, which I had ordered a while ago.
For me, the most interesting match, was Rachel Jones vs Linda Ooms.
The first round lasted 5-1/2 minutes instead of 3 minutes!
After the last furious, non-stop, fight of the usually strong Ooms
against the 5-times world-champion, Ilonka Elmont, which ended in a
draw, it was obvious, that in her fight against Rachel, Ooms did not
fully extend herself for a 100percent.
Perhaps this was caused by the long trip, plus the flight on the same
day?
On the DVD it is clear, that the technically superior Ooms in all of
the 5 rounds, scored more points with boxing, lowkicks and even in the
clinch.
Only in the 5th round, did Jones at last see her chance, when Ooms during
the clinch, got her right arm caught in the ropes. However, Jones' elbow
punches were blocked by Ooms' defense.
Therefore, the result of the match was quite remarkable!
If I have to be honest, it was not specially a spectacular strong match
for both the ladies and Rachel Jones will have to "raise all her sails"
to keep up in her fight against the very strong Ilonka Elmont.
Ilonka's strongest weapon is her murderous clinch and judging from the
DVD, this is for Jones still uncharted waters and she will have to prepare
herself enormously well against The Killer Queen.
I, however, wish Rachel all the best and a lot of success!
William.

I hope that if there is a rematch in Holland, Rachel and her team display the same professionalism and are as easy to work with as Linda and her team; they agreed a realistic purse and stuck to it, turned up on time and on weight, fought and didn’t throw a tantrum when they disagreed with the decision. In short, a promoters dream! And more importantly, a credit to the sport.

Linda's team disagreed with the decision immediately after the fight but were patient enough to wait for the DVD. IMHO, Linda, like any other fighter, fan or trainer has every right to disagree with a decision. Especially if they disagree calmly with a reasoned argument.

Its a shame Lee, that Dave cant come on AX himself as I’m sure his posts would be a little less 'defensive'. This is after all just grist to the mill; match - contested decision - offer of a rematch on home turf. All good stuff and I love it!

Both girls are great fighters and I expect they will meet each other a few more times yet.

Then I will. The whole of the gym get to post under Lee's banner as Im confident other gyms may well do.

However; to satisfy Sid I can confirm this is indeed Dave Croft typing.

I personally thought Linda and her team conducted themselves both professionally and with respect. I am more than confident I am able to behave just as well. But cannot quite see what it was you were infering there? Rachael is confident she won and had the judges eye on the night. Linda disagrees and has posted to that effect. Its a sport not warfare.

I must say tho I wasnt aware we had not been easy to work with save for that one minor third party difficulty which we quickly resolved. And lets be fair you know that it was a sticking point with me too. That is not for public discussion though eh?

I do not agree with William but would be silly not to recognise his opinion and can clearly see his point of view. If indeed Linda was under par on the night I can promise Rachael was'nt on form either. Possibly a combination of affording too much respect to her worthy opponant and a less than decisive fight plan.

We will see what Master Skens show brings. My belief in Rachael has seen me under write the fee's for Ilonka myself. Money where your mouth is as it were.
So I hope William is wrong. Paying and winning is one thing. Paying and losing quite another.

As for a rematch in Holland so be it. I dont really care too much.

Signing off. Dave

My apologies Dave. I in no way meant to infer that you were difficult to deal with.
