Muay-Thai Chain that holds us UP !?

Basically im saying we all have a Chain and Link from our past to get us where we are now! ?!
and Its the Chain thats holding us up !
I started In Karate and jui jitsu with Jeff Whitehead, that led me to master Sken and Muay-Thai-Boxing, and i trained, fought and taught, i now still teach and Luv it. Its the Links that hold its strength, and Holds us up!
Whats your Links that lead you to where you are now ?
Many are still in the Chain and have the LINKS still in place and wont Fall !!!!!! its what holds us up
A good Muay-Thai friend whom i chat on the phone with very often off here too ( he knows who he is, had a Thai trainer like myself and told me the story about the chain ) and ive used these wise words since, thanks as they are indeed that WISE !

I trained (and still do) under Peter Stewart who trained under Master Toddy, i would go sometimes with Peter to Master Toddys Gym and learn and listen (i was 14yrs old)

Master Toddy told Peter that we are all part of a very big family, Peter relayed that to me as a kid training under him, i am still loyal to Peter after all these years, arguments, disagreements and the like.
I have had offers to join this association, that association, be a rep for this and that, but i still remain loyal to Peter who is my Master.

We have Mike who is in Thailand teaching English for last 10 years he is Kru also, the chain is there, other Kru are in Europe and the chain is strong.

Peter still speaks with Master Toddy via telephone, i wont make decisions regarding my training sylllabus style, reps, instructors or other important things regarding Eagles Thai Boxing Wales, we have a good name locally and we wish to promote Muay Thai positively.

I now let 4 of my students take classes for me, one now has his own club. Peter had the final say in the matter (the chain will stay strong).

It is about respect for your teacher, why do the Wai kru if you dont respect who first taught you?

The chain comes down from the beginning, is strong and is now spreading out.
i believe the chain Sandy refers to is the Family hat Master Toddy referred to all those years ago, some parts of the family are strong.
For the Thais family is everything - our community is now a lot stronger than the old days, i remember years ago clubs wouldnt fight because they came from different associations, now it doesnt matter it is about the art, the family is getting stronger!!!

I spoke with Master Sken last year about Ajarn Yodhtong, Master Sken holds Ajarn Yodhtong in great esteeem and quotes him as his guide and mentor - the chain is strong.

Many years ago we (Eagles Wales) were joined to Nigel Howletts organisation, due to a number of reasons we broke away but when i see Nigel at shows i still afford the respect he deserves (i did my first instructor grade under Nigel) Nigel was another of my teachers and i respect him - the chain is still strong.

Or its the chains that is restricting us and holding us back??? Everyone has a chain and its often important to keep good links to pass down knowledge, like Ray Mears stuff! LOL. But just cause someone done something for longer or tried to tell you how to do it, doesn't mean they are right. I try and coach with a big emphasis on technique, but thats only my interpretaion and understanding of it and also my ability to communicate it to them. But I have teenagers that already have better technique than me, have as strong an understanding and probably as good on the pads as me, so it won't be long before they go on and start to teach me and realise that some of the stuff I'm teaching them is a load of shit and find better ways! Should I expect them to ignore that and do it my way, not a chance! I do think that people cling onto what the know and have been told with a stupporn loyalty (which is fair enough), but in doing so does not actually learn or develop, you just end up diluting old and dubious knowledge. Every generation has to keep an open mind and cut the chains IMO, respect and appreciate them sure, but they won't fall without it.

Gary,

your the strong link in those teenagers chain, wait until they have been coaching and coaching as succesfully as you have before you can say they are trully "better" than you.

One of the things i belive we really need to teach our students is the Wai Kru and the meaning of Wai Kru,and with true belief and conviction in what we are teaching we can help the next generation of British Nak Muay be even stronger than the current ones, thereby strengthening the whole chain once again.

The first chain i had wasn't all that great, but when i got to know about chains i found that there are some chains that are more fit for purpose than others.

Hello Paul. I've not been drinking lol. Just talking about mt chains. A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. My first mt chain had some very weak links. So now if i need a good mt chain i know where there are much stronger ones available.

Interesting thread

My trainer is Master Tan, a man who has taught me a lot and whose opinion I respect and ask for often.

I know that without his guidence I wouldnt have the knowledge I have now, and I am lucky that I still continue to learn from him.

I like the idea of lineage and styles - what makes us unique makes us strong.
