HI Ross,
I have had response from the committee and with you being based in Ireland there are mixed responses, as initially we had only thought about producing rankings for British Junior fighters.

Because the Junior Full Contact Council was set up to help drive the sport forward and give all junior kickboxers a chance to find out who is the best, we have decided to put this open to the public to decide.

So then the question is, there are numerous kickboxing clubs throughout Ireland who compete under full contact rules, these guys travel throughout the UK with there young fighters. Should we now be looking at ranking them through the Junior Full Contact Council?

Your views and opinions would be welcomed.

Respect

Phil

Hi Phil I'll make this short and sweet, YES! The Irish Full contact commmunity are an invaluble part of what makes our domestic circuit so strong, and the guys I have had dealings with from the emerald Isle have been proffesional and accomadating, their adition can only serve to strenghten a project that will need as much support as possible.

I do believe that irish juniors should be included on these rankings. after all we are included in the 5 nations and fight for these titles.

I also believe it will help promote the sport in this country and raise the standard.

Cheers Dean, think I will keep dylan at -60kg then :)

Ryan - Thanks for the question and positive comment as Safety is Key for this event.

There is a section in Rules Tab Section 6 - Method of Scoring...should clarify as it details how the fights are to be officiated and scored. The key here of course is consistancy, particularly as Juniors are involved. So we are using in principle the same blue brint as Amateur Boxing with regard to contact.

Please read section 6 All JFCC Officials (Referees)section which gives all competitors protection from taking uneccessary and unanswered shots to the head.

hi dean, will you be ranking"japanese or oriental juniors as well?
Dean Sugden
Posted: 2010-02-24 16:17:16
Semtex Thank you for your question - The JFCC is currently ranking juniors in full contact (kicks above waist). But we welcome and looking to encourage all other styles to compete under our rules and guidelines.

Have you looked at the format on the web site? Be gud if you want to come and have a look on 24th / 25th April.

Got some very interesting entrants. Thanks to everyone who has already shown their support. The event is looking like its going to be the one event where the best of the best inc diff styles come together.

Already got clubs who normally only support a particular association are coming. So pleased we are cutting thru the normal politics that kick around our sport.

Shud be some interesting competition for the normally favoured fighters which is great.

Competition breeds improvement!!

Just waiting for the welsh now and the 5 nations are complete. Who is the best in Wales?

Clubs?
Fighters?
Coaches?

I predict -60kg Teens and Cadets will be a great category at this Junior Open and Teens -40kg.

Saw some great up and coming talent today at BLCC event in Derby. Mushtak thanks for having us mate and GREAT Curry.

Had some great feedback and some great suggestions for the next phase of developments at the JFCC today.

Hi Dean

Thanks for the invite on Saturday and sorry I could not be there. Much apprecieted all the same.

Did you have a chance to think about the rules for the younger fighters?

I dont mind either way about minimum number of kicks per round and have my own views on that topic. I'm happy to go on shows of all types but 8 kicks per round is good for 2 min rounds but a lot for young fighters doing 1 mins. Does anyone else have a veiw on this?
Blakrose
Posted: 2010-03-08 05:28:30
Hello Mark with you on that one, whilst I appreciate and applaud a minimum kick rate, ( that hopfully promotes and rewards the kicker )eight kicks per I min is a bit top heavy. Especially when Am adult f.c, only requires 6 kicks per 1 1/2 and 2 min. Would like to see this looked at, but I for one am absolutely buzzing people in general are getting their headds around the Jnr full contact scene. Great events coming up with the advent of this JFCC circuit ( well done Dean ) and the WKA championships coming soon.

Will update soon as i promise, thanks for your patience.

I echo that, really looking forward to some safe full contact events for juniors. Its been long overdue and as long as we follow the same lines as Amateur boxing cant see their being to many problems.

After careful consideration we are delighted to announce a change to our Rules & Regulations. With immediate effect round durations and minimum kick rule will be as follows.

1 min round = 4 kicks
1.5 min round = 6 kicks
2 min round = 8 kicks

Rules & Regs will be updated shortly to reflect this change. Thanks for the feedback. I think the format in general has been very well recieved and hope that this change demonstrates our desire to listen & represent the community that we hope to serve.

Just to remind everyone that is attending our event. Our Rules and Regulations plus scoring criteria is on our web site www.juniorfullcontact.co.uk

Qualified Judges are independantly appointed and have been well briefed before even attending the event on the above.

Re Insurance - Very interesting subject. We have made sure after some very detailed investigations into the lack of proper Insurance available for Full Contact events for Juniors & Seniors. Our insurance policy will be available for everyone to see at the event and ALSO we will also be available to other coaches and promoters who are promoting full contact for Juniors and seniors going forward. Full Details will be published shortly on our web site along with details of member to member insurance.

I would welcome every coach to check not just at this event but all events where they attend to check that this is in place. They should make note of the Policy number and Insurance company.

Any one interested in Insurance please email dean@juniorfullcontact.co.uk

Just a quick note about todays show...

big congrats to all at JFCC on your inaugural event , it was quiet simply one of
the best competition shows we have ever attended..

80 full contact fights in two rings and done in less than 6 hrs..

I photographed ring 1 and the action was stunning from start to finish,
great fights & brilliant sportmanship and a lively atmosphere,I myself didnt hear a bad word or complaint all day , but it helps by having the best of the best in place as the JFCC did --- refs, judges, medic care , child protection officer, and a very good back up team..

a really well run event ..

Will post Cat Winners later... I promise!

Thanks to everyone who supported this event, Had loads of positive comments and personally felt that our format added a level of excitement and SAFETY to the sport that I have not seen before for Juniors.

We will however learn from this event and I look forward to The Martial Arts Show now where the challengers are coming in thick and fast to take on all category winners.

Cheers Pete for the great photos.

As with all 1st time events there was always going to be lessons to be learnt, that's a given, but with a good venue, good support team, some absolutely fantastic reffereeing from Bob Taggart and Mark Elwood, things were spoilt for me and my team by some lying ......! which served to undermine what in theory is a fantastic conception, much long overdue. Just a quick apology to Ross Barrett from Ireland though who's daughter was due to fight one of our SaXon girls, who just before the fight pulled out. Shame for Beth who had travelled from Ireland for the fight and in Hiensight it is possible to see how it could have been seen as our girl getting the jitters about fighting young Beth. But as I said to you Ross, she said she was ill and who am I to question her, fact is yesterday she was confirmed to have tonselitus ( please excuse the spelling ) not the jitters. Still glad to she Beth got her a after all.Still glad I not the type of coach to have made her fight like was suggested.

Dont want to detract from all the positive comments and texts recieved about the event. But to respond to Alans point and reference to lying.

Let me elaborate...

We are carrying out a full investigation into the suggestion that a club claimed a couple of fighters were not the age detailed on their entry form.

We should always tread cautiously when accusing someone of lying. The JFCC has already acted and verified on the day that the fighter in question was 13 as the entry form stated. The fighter was entered into the 13 to 15 category but then was withdrawn by his corner as it was suggested he was only 12. When the entry form was presented to the camp in question it was accepted that a mistake had been made and an apology given by the camp. Obviously this left a dissapointed fighter in the ring and for that I cant apologise enough.

But please be assured that we will be meeting with the club as they was a suggestion another fighter was not the age they were meant to be. I personally think this was a misunderstanding and not a lie. However a full investigation and report plus appropriate action will be taken.

These events will only be as successful and professional as the clubs that enter and overall this was second to none and I would like to thank all the clubs and fighters for what was a great day.

We made some mistakes and are big enough to admit them, but we wont make them again. However we set out to share good practice and ensure safety & developement in the sport of Full Contact. That we did and the event was well run and alot of effort was put in to make sure it was an enjoyable day all round.

We had one fighter fail the pre fight medical and coach / fighter was advised by the Medical team that a letter from their GP would be required if they wanted clearance to fight. This for me was a massive step forward as all fighters were checked even if they had brought a fit 2 fight form signed by their GP.

Must post results and category winners so Scott can see who he wants to fight.

Scott - Bit surprised you are focusing on -55kg when you have fought at heavier weight recently. I know its your ideal weight but at your age there are not many around:-) There are a couple of fighters at -60kg who would love to fight you. Maybe we can agree a catch weight contest?

Please note any challengers must give their date of birth and also be able to provide license with adequate insurance. If on the day this is not produced then the JFCC can provide but at a cost.

Everyone who attended the event was given a Record Book which had pre fight medical check, weight and fight statistics recorded. Please ensure these are prodcued at every JFCC event you will NOT be allowed to fight without it.

Thanks

good on ya dean re- mistakes will be made but wont happen again, you as the promoter can only go by other coaches honesty if you didnt there would not of been an event its that simple,1 or 2 misunderstandings on your first event not bad m8, 1 accidental injury even better. you can never help pullouts or wot you have not been told. now give me those results ! as we are coming to the nec lol well done

I am very suprised to read that a blatent lie is deemed as a misunderstanding, the only mistake is too have been found out. Will be interested to read the full list of results because as far as I know their must be two fighters representing the 16-18 -65kg catagorie at the show in May. And I would question how many lads won the gold in the 7-9 -25kg catagorie for that matter.
Fact is such a good concept should be built on integrity, without it all youv'e got is the same old, in a different dress.

To all @ JFCC

thank you for welcoming us to newark to participate on the first ever junior full contact show. We went through some highs and lows (apology accepted @ blakrose) but overall thoroughly enjoyed the event. it was good to meet up with some old faces and foes and make some new contacts.

Our fighters gained some valuable experience and as a coach took a lot away from the event as well.

we look forward to accepting challenges from near and afar for Dillon & Bethany and will see you all in Birmingham.

I am as confused as you Pete, but Tyler ended up fighting a lad who actually weighed in at I think 64.6kg definately under 65kg anyway, Tyler weighed in at 69.1kg ie -70kg. Don't get wrong TY won as you would of expected, but the lad was good to be fair. But too be fair, why did he fight Ty in the first place? Fact is this Lad ( sorry didn't get his name Mark someone )from I think Chikira Scunthorpe I was told, actually fought another -70kg fighter from Newark before he fought Tyler. He was then told after losing to Ty he would represent the -65kg division in May for his troubles, how can that be? if as I understand the -65kg division was conested, maybe I am wrong and it wasn't, but I would still ask why he was put in a section above his weight and had to fight an opponent originally marked up to fight Tyler, who was his correct match. all I thought was What a bloody shame for the lad. But like I said the lad was a good and a credit to himself and his gym.

Posted: 2010-04-27 08:09:41
as dean said tho mistakes were made but will be rectafied, relying on coaches honesty is the hardest thing promoters have to do, as you say perhaps it was not contested at 65k so he got moved up a weight class,i as im sure you know how hard it is to get every thing spot on and to please every one (impossible) but i am sure things will be explained in due course m8
Dean Sugden

To help the confused...

The Final for the 16 to 18 - 65kg will be contested at the NEC between Mark Hutson and Darren Biggs as agreed by both camps on the day.

Chad was not eligible to fight in this catagory at this event but will be available to challenges at the NEC at 65kg.

Tyler fighting Mark was one of the mistakes I referred to earlier. Full credit to Mark for giving Tyler a great fight despite the weight difference. We take full responsibility for this.

The 7 to 9 year old was another mistake where one of the kids who won the semi was presented with Gold Medal by mistake. I have spoken to Dave from 3 Lions and Luca is available to fight Korben on Sunday 23rd May at the NEC to decide who is No.1?

Alan - I have been too many shows where this kind of weight difference I have been on the wrong side of. Tower Ballrooms Danny Swanwick v Aidan Howarth ring any bells? Fighters getting Knocked down and in what was supposed to be Semi Contact show. Officials did not deduct a point or disqualify anyone? I would like to think that when we make mistakes we learn from them and I am quite prepared to be judged by that.

Given it was Rob's fighter that gave away the weight, I could understand if Rob from Chikara came on here complaining but he sent me a message the day after the show thanking me a for a great show!!! - quote Rob Fulton

Come on your guys had a great day with some great performances and we have already said mistakes were made but dont be confused...

If you have birth certificates available of the fighters you referred to so I can catagorically state on here someone has lied then I will be happy to share your view.

We are as I said investigating and looking for clarification in order to take the appropriate action.

I would say that communication was lacking at times.
e.g Ben was told he was in the final and would be late on. I can live with that but then told he had a fight . We went to ring 1 and stood around for an age only to be told to return to the changing room, Then back again this time brill we got in the ring and then (to young?????????)
return to the changing room and wait for the final. OK we know find our selves at ring side ready again 8 hours later only to find that his opponent has gone home unwell. I can understand fighters failing medicals but he went home around 2 or 3 o'clock ??????

James Gridley has an extensive teakwondo career and has competed in ring light con a few times (not that many)...BUT this was a first full contact fight for him. He has his second on my show next week.

I'm only saying this pete as you saying 75 fights mate might be taken that he's some sort of ringer and he's def not.

His taekwondo etc is no different to any of the guys who have moved on to Full from a extensive Light con career.

Quote "Alan - I have been too many shows where this kind of weight difference I have been on the wrong side of. Tower Ballrooms Danny Swanwick v Aidan Howarth ring any bells?"
The instance you refer too Dean is a four kg wieght difference to Aiden Howarth on an invitation day show where despite Aidens weight advantage on the day gave away vast experience in return too Danny.
Thats how I remember it, please correct me if I am wrong, and I also come too think of it had you being quite vocal about that match both privately and publically if I'm not mistaken.
But what as that got to do with Sunday?
Dean Sugden
Posted: 2010-04-28 03:31:54
Mistake Alan - I thought I had made that clear...It was a mistake!

I was not actually in the corner of my fighter or ringside when Muj who was supposed to fight Tyler started fighting.

After I came over after cornering another fighter the fight between Mark and Muj had already started. The ref quite rightly stopped this contest in favour of Mark as Muj was taking too much punishment. That meant he was not able to fight anyone as he had been stopped.

Even though these mistakes happened no harm was done and Mark and Darren will fight it out at the NEC.

I am just waiting for absolute confirmation but I believe Ross has a challenger for Tyler if we have no takers from England, Wales or Scotland??

We have a meeting planned for tonight and the JFCC team will reflect and discuss those mistakes, issues and agree a better way of working for everyone next time.

In all the years I have been promoting events, our shows have evolved and improved over the years. I can say that the format we started with at The Grove Leisure Ctr was not perfect but now we have a formula which works a treat (Kelham Hall). I dont see any reason why this would not be the same with regard to the JFCC.

Welcome all challengers!!!

Thanks Pete and all other coaches who have already confirmed their availability for May 22nd 23rd TMAS.

Pete - Would love you at the event providing your great service let me check with the promoter.

Beth & Dillon are available for any challengers on the martial arts show on the sunday (23rd may) we fly in very early Sunday morning.

I am looking forward to bringing my guys to JFCC events in the future and aim to host a JFCC sanctioned event in Ireland in the near future. What a great begining on Sunday, and as with all areas in life mistakes will be made, but I have no doubt these will be ironed out, rectified and move forward to greater things.

Looking forward to May

Until next time, Dont ever ever give up......

Hi guys,

intrresting comments but Hey live and learn

appologies for our absence too many commitments at this time,

only negative for me was all kids having to have a fit to fight letter from a doctors, these are not cheap, this was then altered to be available free on the day, great stuff plus was also too close to the WKA championships this week, if they had been further apart woul have definately supported this event, plus I didn't want any of you guys measuring my kids up for this Sunday, we'll just suprises you on the day ;-)

all i In all congrats nice to see kids getting something out of it as there has not been much around for them in the past,

I am taking measures now young Shaun is more mature so as if I am tied up with a boxing event the kids team won't suffer and will be more available

I have a 10 strong team of kids ready and gagging to fight so just keep me in the loop

thanks

All in all the day was a great success, and i guess you cannot please all of the people all of the time.
This was the 1st JFCC event and i'm sure that they will go from strengh to strengh.
After a very busy day i can honestly say that the standard of full contact kickboxing was exceptional all the way through all of the age categories. Everything was explained well, rules and child protection policies available for people to view if needed and the insurance certificate was also available.
Now lets bring on the Martial Arts Show at the NEC and lets show the great quality of Junior Full Contact Council fighters.

Thats the idea Jon put ur challenges in now if you want ur Kids to compete at The Martial Arts Show NEC.

The fighters that competed on Sunday are the Best out there so put yours in when you feel ready. I know all the clubs are well up for any challenges so challenge away. The only criteria is the following:

They are all...
Insured
Pass Medical and produce fit 2 fight
Correct Age and Weight (Copy of Birth Certificate / Proof of age)

Look forward to your challengers:-)

if you can match these il try and arrange something

keenen dixon 12yrs under 5ft 50k I have no idea how many fights as points history Wka jnr champion
Armand cubrevic 12yrs 45k under 5ft 5f all wins very good lad

Need to confirm heights and weights, and fights as kids lost track a bit either way names and ages are correct so if the best think they are up to the challenge knock knock ;-)

Dean - I could not fight Regis at this show as I am 16 and the category is 13-15 I believe?
Is regis fighting at the WKA championships this weekend?
I have no problem fighting him but I don't accept fights, all fights go through my coach Greg Docherty at Rivals Gym who you'll get through Stewart.
Well Done at the weekend Regis and Chad!

All fights must be within 2kg in weight and within 2 years in age. What is you date of birth?

At the championships its slightly different as we have age and weight catagories.

Minutes and action from JFCC meeting last night will be published shortly on website.

Pete - Can you let Mark know where he can see pictures from Ring 2?

Dean - Regis won Gold in Full Contact & K1 at WKA Worlds last year. Although he got a great fight with Aaron in the final of K1. The competition was very poor in terms of fighters and lack of them so we wont be attending this year!

With regard to the British Champs, although we had great success as a club which led us going to the Worlds!

Last year AT THE British Champs there were NO...

Paramedics / doctor present
No fit 2 Fight or Pre Fight Medicals
Not enough Officials in place to cover the rings

The JFCC is not perfect, however we are striving for that accolade. But in a Kick Boxing tournament of this size there is NO excuse or reason for not having the above in place.

Safety and developement is PARAMOUNT!

I hope the WKA have got their act together but even if they have Champs this weekend. At World Level within the WKA for Full Contact there is NO competition. The evidence of that was last years attendance in F/C or should I say lack of it.

I am dissapointed that fighters travelled 30 /40 miles and did not get a fight. But travel over to Spain and not get a fight or even some support to try and do something about it. Allowing students and their families to spend hundreds of pounds on a trip abroad on the guarantee there was loads of competitors when it turned out there was less entries in the World Champs than the British Champs.

I am personally NOW not involved in anyway with the WKA and wont be taking any fighters to their championships. We will continue to work with promoters who sanction with the WKA that ensure that all Key points are addressed.

Sorry to go on but I wanted to answer the question and explain my reasons why we WONT be attending.

Cheers

Paul - I have been asked the question and I have given my answer and reason because he is interested in the sport! If you dont like it then thats because it is the truth. If i thought I would get a response from WKA HQ...Trust me I would!

Hi Mark mate well done on Sunday kid, you did well,. For our part( and I am not the one who decides these things mind) mytkae is this I will enter the detail of your bout with Ty into his records and that of our club, as it should be, as he didn't make the match just took it. But you are right to ask the question because it was not a match you should of had to take. So why should it go on your record. For those that take pride in their record this is obviously an issue but how it is resolved I am not sure. All the best with it and again well done for Sunday hopefully catch up at TMAS.

Thanks Alan.

I'm not at all disappointed about what happened on sunday.

I'm pleased that I got the opportunity to fight Tyler. I learnt a lot, and it was a great experience.

I figure that at amateur level, what you learn from each fight is much more important than the actual result. I feel that I learnt much more from a loss to Tyler than I could possibly have learnt from a win over a lower calibre opponent.

I'd like to thank Tyler for a thoroughly enjoyable fight, and wish him the best of luck in the future.

Fit 2 Fight is a check and confirmation from your doctor that you are fit to fight. This is particulary usefull if you have irregular high blood pressure or something else the Medical Team on the day may question.

It last for a year and is recorded and dated in Record Book supplied by JFCC. Fight details plus medicals are also recorded each time junior competes.

Run on same principals as ABA.

Hello Marlon - In your email you said Marshall did not fight Full Contact or you did not agree with it until the age of 10. So I may have assumed wrongly, if I have then please accept my sincere apology as Ismaeil is now matched against a very strong fighter from TKA. Sunday is now full as we have 3 hours of Ring Time at TMAS.

If you enter Marshall and any other kids, juniors, teens and cadets that want to fight F/C details on line www.juniorfullcontactrankings.co.uk We can then enter him in the rankings. We would be delighted to arrange it on a future jfcc event.

Charlie can make -30kg but we decided to test him in the heavier weight category and let him have a few more ice creams. LOL Its true...

Oh thats fine.
I thought it was Junior Fullcontact ringstyle not actually Full Contact.

Yes its true I wont let my junior fighters fight full until 12yrs inline with the ABA's.

Dont think parents would like to see 7 8 or 9 yrs olds trying to knock each other out and I personally dont want kids getting seriously hurt or worse still brain damage before they reach a mature age.

Thai boxing got a lot of flack with the "Baby Fightclub" TV programme and I dont want Kickboxing getting tarnished with the same brush.

Good luck with it anyway mate and again well done to Charlie at -35kg.
He is going to be a great prospect :)

Marlon the age kids can compete as an AMATEUR Boxer is 11.

Re Baby Fight Club - THAT IS SO FAR OF THE MARK on this thread!

If they had followed Charlie Pearson around and understood that this kid has been winning Light Continuous titles but also able to transfer his skills and have the inteligence to know when he is winning and does not need to inflict uneccessary punishment on his opponents is beyond his years.

ABA / JFCC - The standing 8 count is used to protect the boxers in Amateur Boxing & KICKBOXING. The referee will not hesitate to give a boxer a count. When in a mixed rule bout there is no count and this does not allow the competitor or the referee the time to recover or asses whether this fighter is hurt or not. Irrespective in JFCC / ABA events the referee will administer a count if a head gets knocked back or boxer is being out classed. The reality is too often I see children who cant compete have to endure the punishment being dished out for a whole 3 rounds. Standing 8 count is a key safety feature!

Safety is paramount at the JFCC and I would add that our events will be the safest events in Junior Kickboxing with only one exception and that is the BLCC circuit which is great for developing ring experience and confidence. I have been around in Kickboxing for many years and my background is Full Contact. We have as a club some of if not the best juniors on the circuit who have won ISKA, WKA, IKF, Golden Belt, EFK, BLCC, ICO Titles from National to World level.

The circuit for juniors has moved on in leaps and bounds and what we wanted to do was add to what we believed was already out there. Light Continuous in the ring is a great start. But through pre fight medicals, proper fight records and intelligent matching with weight and age we can introduce Full Contact. Which can offer something extra which will ultimately protect and support the future of Full Contact in the UK & World wide. Kickboxing will NOT get tarnished by the JFCC. In fact our aim is to SHARE GOOD PRACTICE AND ENSURE SAFETY & DEVELOPMENT IN THE SPORT OF FULL CONTACT.

Our Champions have been and will always fight on the circuit and not be tied to a association. However we will only work with associations who do things the right way and can provide good officials, consistancy and no variation in the rules (no negotiating on the day), good competition (not interested in picking up titles if there is no real competition).

All our fighters are happy to accept challenges and it makes me laugh when I see people claiming there is not enough happening for kids. Well I disagree I think there is plenty but not neccessarily plenty of quality events.

However in saying that we have supported the BLCC from the start and will continue to do so. The recent ICO event was also well run like previous ISKA opens.

We debated what the correct age was to start from. After our recent event I am in no doubt what so ever there are children aged 7 to 9 who can compete safely under our rules. Some highlights will be on our web site in the next few days.

If anyone is not sure come along to the The Martial Arts Show at the NEC and see some of these kids in action and judge for yourself.

For me its the safest and most exciting developement in the sport of Kickboxing.
Competition breeds improvement. What we are intending to do is take a team to a REAL World event where children have an abundance of competition. All juniors involved in any JFCC event have my absolute assurance that we are only trying to provide the very best in competition.

Cheers

As a new comer to the world of Full Contact I was delighted to witness first hand the level of care and consideration given to the safety of all the young fighters who competed in the 1st JFCC event.

I stood in for my sons coach due to him unfortunately being unavailable to attend and therefore took part in the Coaches meeting held prior to the start of the competition.

All aspects of the event were explained clearly in the presence of the judges, referees and the coaches and it was clear that safety of the fighters was paramount in the minds and efforts of the organization.

I have taken part and attended in numerous so called "Light Continuous " events over the years with every member of my family and can assure anyone who was not at the event that the competitors were in my opinion safer than they could have been with the benefit of high quality refereeing and the use of the "Standing Eight Count" to protect the fighters from taking unanswered shoots.

I am not trying to insult any of the organizations which carry out "Light Continuous” events as I have no doubt that it is incredibly difficult to maintain a high level of quality refereeing over numerous mats at the larger events.

My son has has an extensive ITF TKD background to an international level and has been training within a Full Contact club for the past year and this as I mentioned was his 1st F/C bout and I at no time considered him in more danger than he is during any other event we have attended over the past 10 years.

I look forward to seeing my son compete in any future JFCC event.

As I said just my opinion.
Red Phoenix Academy

Hi Dean please don't get me wrong it is good for the older kids.

I said 12yrs as most Kickboxing orgs have a 10-12yrs division so starting from Juniors 12-14 then 14-16yrs, cadets 16-18yrs then 18yrs+ is fine.

Myself personally though feel (and this is my own opinion not a dig at JFCC) that any younger than that is a bit dodgy.

As a fullcontact fighter/ coach I can understand where your coming from, but what I am saying is that the general public not the kickboxing community would frown upon it.

As reference to the "Baby fightclub" my point is I know Nikki and Conner very well and they are very nice guys and she is supporting her son in what he loves and they are doing their bit for the sport, but when the viewing public saw that on tv they just saw 2 little kids hitting 10 bells out of each other and that is what hurt kids Muay Thai and that is what could happen to Kids Kickboxing also.

It doesnt matter how many disclaimer forms you sign, what insurance you have, how safe the competition and officiating is if a 9yr old gets paralised or gets brain damage because of say a fullcontact headkick then the "8 count rule" isnt going to count for anything and what are you going to say to the parents and how would you feel for that child and their family?

Again this is no dig and I wish the JFCC all the best, but this is my own view as a fullcontact fighter, coach, but above all father.

Blakrose
Posted: 2010-05-15 05:17:17
Like all shows, JFCC event 1, had it's minus's and it's plus's, but I say it, as I see it, and I at no time, during that event thought any of my kids safety was compramised. The rules of levels of engagement were clear, and so was the guidelines given to the officials on the matter of standing eight counts. The lad who fought Tyler recieved a standing eight after taking a stiff jab, causing his head to be rocked, so did Samuel Amposah Tyler's first ABA opponent, same technique same result, safety came first, no different.
A point also worth mentioning is the good old "Towel". During the course of the day I or Tyler threw the Towel in Four times. This, other than the refferee is the biggest single safety factor available. If as a coach you think winning the fight is beyond your fighter, or in your opinion he is outclassed, outpunched, or outpowered, use it, there is no disgrace, especially in open class tournaments.
I have a girl Sarah Smith 13yrs who was 6 and 6 before the JFCC's, when she got to the tournament she was pitched against the very talented very experienced and much bigger and older Shannon Graham, but she took the fight, and aquitted herself admirably, I felt I was in total control all the time, knowing if it got too hot in there I would pull her out. As it was she lost, ( of course ) but I learnt so much about her, and she herself, during that loss that the experience will greatly improve her as a fighter, and so was well worthwhile.
I had two fighters face Tom Smart from UFBDA in the WKA Open British Championships the following week, and too Toms credit he was far too good for my lads, so we threw the towel in on both occasions, thus making sure our lads had the oppotunity to compete but making sure it was not a bad experience for them.
On both dates JFCC and the WKA open the reffereeing was exemplary and safety of the young fighters was never an issue.
Q; When was the last ABA tournament when a jnr fighter was seriously hurt. And
Q; who as got a 7 yrs old kid that can command such power that he can inflict any real damage wearing ten oz gloves, most of my 7 yr olds struggle to lift em up.
I am, as always open to debate, and maybe an elder entry level into full contact might be given some thought too. But overall I entered 13 fighters into JFCC'S and 12 into the WKA's worst injury I got was a bruised shin, in a leg clash, which can happen on any light con event.
In summary, safety of the fighters should first lie with their coach, but during both these two events I, my young fighters, or their parent ( most notibly) had any cause for complaint with regard to levels of contact.
I look forward to Jons English Open, as do my boys and girls.

Remember; it ain't what you do, it's the way that you do it!

Another question
Q; Do you know the worst thing about Full Contact Kickboxing

A; It's name

Dad tells his mates, his lad is boxing at the weekend, everyones cool, dad tells his mates, his lad is in a F/C kickboxing bout and some frown,

Is ABA boxing not more brutal than Kids kickboxing, I think so, I don't see the coach's or ref's telling the lads to go light. If a lad can't cope they pull him out, simple as.

i think uve missunderstood my post,i wasnt meaning chantelle to match with beth on the nec show, chantelle fought beth on your 1st event and no dissrespect but was too strong for beth i simply thought beth and gareth wher the only persons not matched yet so i thought chantelle may have been matched.chantelle could make -40kg but its difficult to get her matched so we moved up in next cattegory.
good look with your show today and see tou at the next jfcc event.
thanks dave

Alan - one of the team picked it up when we were packing up so safe and sound!

Thanks to all the junior fighters, coaches and officials who made the day run smooth. There were some great fights and fine performances. It was good to see fighters and coaches also coming to watch and see the level their fighters have to be to be to beat No.1. Thanks also for your patience as we had to wait to get started.

Not all No. 1 ranking positions were on line on sunday but some great fights further down the rankings took place. Full Report will be posted on web site in the next few days along with some video footage.

Hope to get all results on later.

The rankings will be updated within the next few weeks. Anyone who wants to enter their fight records on line can be included in the rankings. ITS FREE & EASY!

Thanks Dean for the return of the video.
As for the show; well after the delay in starting ( which I might add was not the fault of the JFCC )the fights themselves were well matched and very entertaining. Thought the Darren and Mark fight was of exceedingly good quality, but the fight of the day for me was Jordan Frost v His opponnet from Black Dragons ( soz I didn't get his name ) but sure we will later, both fought to a standstill and an excellent advert for Jnr Full Contact, some of the shots the Black Dragons fighter was picking were professional and sheer quality and Jordans Kicking and countering was so on point, excellent by both lads.
