Jon is from Howard Hughes Sukothai gym in Devon, he's a good fighter who will pretty much fight anyone, any rules. (also a top bloke to boot)
I think he holds a few British titles.

Dont underestimate Russian, from what I hear, he wanted to come and take all the best the UK could offer in one night!! :)

Mr Smith
Posted: 2004-06-07 04:05:03
I put the results up briefly on www.badcompany.co.uk last night.
Mark Charles and Tony Bassnet both from Kaobon fought Russians, as well as Liam Harrison (Bad Company) and Neil Woods (Kaobon).

The Russians were (as expected) really good. Very tough, well schooled and looked like they spend a lot of time in Thailand judging by the quality of their Wai Kru and technique.

Tony Bassnet and Mark Charles were stopped - both by punchinng. Bassnet struggled in the clinch. Liam won on points in a hell of a fight. Liam landed some shots that would have KO'd a lot of fighters but the Russian just kept coming. It as a good opportunity for Liam to tryout his stuff and he put on an exhibition in the last round. I think he hit him with every elbow in the book. It was a great win and Liam just keeps getting better.

Neil Woods fight was awsome too. The Russian won, and its one of the few times I've seen Neil on the back foot most of the fight. The Russian was very fast and slick and kept coming forward pressuring withsmooth accurate combinations. Neil was never really in trouble, and many fighters would not have lasted, but the Russian was too busy and slick. Great fight.

Altough the English guys didnt get the results, noone lost as they can only get stronger fighting opponents like that. It was good to see a gym/prompters brave enough to bring real quality opponents over for their guys.

DiPaolo looked awsome as usual. Jon Clarke had some success at first and I think it took Christian some time to get to grips with his style, but he finished it with the left hook from hell!

I was pleased with Jordan Watson who also won when his opponent Ryan Collins (Russ Williams gym) didnt come out for the third round. The fight was under low kick rules which the guys in my gym arent really farmiliar with nowadays. He gave him 2 counts in the second in a mature performance. Ryan was brave to take the fight as he in less experienced than Jordan, but both youngsters learned a lot from the fight so its all good.

Very good show in a decent venue with a good crowd and atmophere. Well done and thanks to paul hennessy, Colin Heron and Colin Heron for putting it together.

Wow, what a great show!! Quality venue and brilliantly organised - well done to everyone involved!

Imran and Christian both kept me and the Wicker Camp gang cheering with some excellent fighting. Credit to Imran's opponent for taking the fight at such short notice. Also, Jon Clark I'm so sorry I didn't actually realise that Christian's opponent was you till you stepped into the ring and it suddenly dawned on me - duh!! Anyway I did risk getting my ass whipped by giving a little cheer for you when you were announced, but seeing as Chris is from my gym I couldn't make it an exceptionally loud cheer. I did try though, I figured I couldn't let a fellow Axer and a fellow med student down totally! Well done on a quality fight though Jon, you took it to Christian and make him work for it, if it had been anyone other than Christian I'd have been cheering for you at the top of my voice!

Liam, congratulations, you fought like a champ - and a gentlemanly champ too, I thought you were very respectful towards your opponent after the fight and very gracious. Also your granddad's cool, me and my bloke were sat in front of all your family and he kept us amused all night!

Jordan showed us how it should be done, he's such a fantastic fighter, I thought Ryan was a great opponent and a very tough cookie for taking it as long as he did, and I thought it was a good decision by his corner to retire when they did. Hopefully Jordan will just keep getting better and better, I'm sure they both learnt a lot from the fight and it was a pleasure to watch.

Credit to the organisers for bringing over such brilliant fighters from Russia, I'm always concerned that they're not going to match up to our boys and it was good to see some top quality fighting going on. Absolutely gutted that they kept winning though, I don't like them being that good!!!! I was voiceless for most of the drive back to Sheffield after screaming for Neil so loud, I'm sure he'll take a lot from the experience and come back better than ever though.

I never found any Axers though!! I was going to try to find you Jon, but figured it mightn't go down to well with the pissed up Wicker Camp. I didn't recognize anyone else, I'm sure next time we sould have an ax signal - all wear a red carnation or something!!!!

Anyway, all in all it was a brill night, well worth the money and if you missed it then you missed out!

This was a proper good show, well run and with good fighters. Which ax'ers went? I watched most of fights with Farhad and Thug Angel off here. Richard Smith has put up most of results. Few more as follows.
Scott (trained by Eugine) drew with a Russ Williams fighter.
Kevin Smiles beat Rob Lloyd rd 2.ko
Ian Williams from Paul Suttons lost to Kaobon Super Heavy pts.
Di Paulo was awesome in his ko win over John Clarke!

Posted: 2004-06-07 09:02:20
Kevin was from Newcastle and Ive seen a fight review of him when he beat Shane Stanton couple of years ago. He is 6 ft 8 tall and rangy. In my oppinion Rob came out well at start of round 2 and was conecting with boxing combinations when he over extended and was caught with a fast head kick and went down heavily. Luckily he was ok and seemed alrite when talking to him later. We all know at that weight it only takes one shot.

Anton and Genna were freindly as ususal but the rest didnt talk much (prolly coz they cudnt speak a word of english!) the trainer was a mean looking fella and spoke a few words , they all had a rare smile when i said "pakka" which means goodbye in russian

The funniest incident was when i said "pakka!" to the pretty looking girl who was accompanying the belarus team, turns out she wasnt even russian (which is why she burst into fits of giggles!!!) it was an "ill get my coat moment! " , Ali-man has left the building!

My Observations of the show :
Tony Basnett and Mark Charles were basically carbon copies of neil woods very picturesque style of fighting , i.e. headhunting then taking the legs 1-2-3-low kick! i really like that style!
they all have cut up physiques with big upper bodies and slightly slimmer legs obviously neil woods gets good sparring in.
Mark Charles in particular impressed me , i think he could fight in the next K-1 max and maybe win that one too.
The russians were all built like matchsticks but were really good in the clinch and were NAILS!!!

The liverpool crew lost BUT thats becoz theyre opposition were so incredible!!!

My mate Kevin Rice from chester showed loads of guts and determination, i kinda knew he would get a draw 2 rounds even one round each= draw! well doen kevin! bet his leg is killing today tho :P
Farhad
Posted: 2004-06-07 15:38:31
at one point tho i said that one fight needed stopping and some of the liverpoor supporters looked at me like i was on heroin!!!
turns out that guy ended up gettign stopped anyway!

Kevin smiles had his chin in the air and had a dead dead awkward style !!! eventually Rob llyod went for the finish and got caught with a big head kick!!!

its nice to see a KO but i felt bad for rob lloyd and even more so for the lovley looking dark haired young lady in the audience who was in tears when that happened
(yes liverpool is FULL of nice looking chicks!, Thug angel and Simon Hillier didnt know where to look!)

Neils opponent was well slippery and dead quick too BUT neil hurt his thighs with elbows i saw the state of his thighs afterwards! black and blue!

Farhad

also:

Imran khan fought phil williams student moazzam khan :
there was an experiecne difference, but all credit to moazzam for taking the fight imran was very relaxed throuought the fight and you could tell he felt uncomfortable fighting " a brother" and he controlled the fight well even helping the brother when he went down a few times. this was the first time id seen imran with a beard imran has always been clean shaven , met him loads of tiems socially and hes such a kind natured and modest guy!

Christian :
what do they feed this guy!!! his legs were massive!!! how much did this guy weigh ? ive always thought christian was like 78-80kg ???

Jon Clark : yes you did put up a fight i was actually cheering for you being an Ax'er and all that i was standing with Thug Angel , Jamie, jamies mate (who i thought was his older brother to both guys amusement!) and full contact nutter simon hillier

EXCELLENT show, the best ive been to so far!!!

Keep it up Mr Heron (times 2) and Mr Henessey !!!

The Belarusian fighters were
Vitali Hurkou v Tont Basnett
Siargei Shymanski v Mark Charles
Aliaksandr Klitsen v Liam Harrison
and Dzianis Laeuski v Neal Woods
All were former top class amatures who have won world
and european amature titles and all have competed
around the world including Japan and Thailand.
The corner crew consisted of Chinuk coaches Dmitry Piasetsky
2 times world pro and 2 times world amature champ,
(a very humble nice guy with an inrcredable list of
achievements in muay thai)Anrei Zelianeuski a former 2
time world amature champ and me the bucket boy ,
We were well looked after by Colin and the Liverpool crew
and the crowd and the venue were fantastic well done
to everybody that fought.
Fahad ,
Roxxanne Dean (British ladies number 4 at 63 kilo)
looks forward to sparring you when you come down after
your poor chat up line : )

I actually DID think Roxanne was russian!!!
she sure doesnt look english , she does look a bit foreign and so i assumed she was one of the belarus corner crew
seriously!

paul suttons heavyweight Ian (who is a top bloke i must add) was very nervous which spoiled his performance but he brought i back in the last round too little too late.

Liam Harrison could prolly be a world champion! i dont think any UK fighter at 60kg could stand with him (i might be wrong but thats based on what ive seen from him)

in fight matching its the matching that makes great fights, even tho the russians beat the kaobon lads,.. the fight action was incredible!!!

Thanks Nikki! Didn`t realise you where there or i`d have come and said hi! Where are you studying?

Farhad: Thanks as well mate! Regards Christians weight...I know! We thought he was coming up from a weight division lower as well! The guy looked like he`d had a leg transplant from a shire horse! Very, very impressive. I weighed in light for the division (82.5)He weighed in a couple of kilos (2.5) heavier than me the day before and told me after he was probably a bit heavier still on the day (NOTE: THIS IS NOT ME MAKING AN EXCUSE AS IT IS MY OPINION THAT IF YOU MAKE THE SPECIFIED WEIGHT AT THE SPECIFIED TIME THEN YOU QUALIFY FOR THE FIGHT) I felt probably trhe fittest I`ve ever felt and came in at 80 kg on the day. This left me in the unenviable position of fighting someone who was a.better b.more experienced and experience and b. Bigger!! Consequently Howard and myself have decided that we`ll consider fights at super middleweight (79 kg).

Zebs: Cheers mate, learnt loads from it and christian even chatted with me after to give me some more data to work with, I`ve never been punched by a nicer bloke!

With regards to the russian v. england fights...If you weren`t there why not!! Some of the best fights I`ve seen, ever, and Liam was something else. Phenomenal show thanks to all who organised.

Oh and sadly its true what they say about scousers. Someone nicked my phone from the hotel!!!!!!!!

Went to the show, you got support from neutrals and concern until you recovered from ko. Fighters were well looked after by officials and security. Bit sad you label scousers in that way over 1 mobile phone.
Farhad

lets be honest the best accent is that scouse accent
i LOVE that accent its much better than the brummie one better even than the yorkshire one too

Now then JC! You shouldn't label scousers like that!!! Naughty naughty! I happen to have the advantage of being one of those proud variety of people - born and bred in Huyton, Merseyside and now living in Sheffield!
Seriously though mate, most scousers are totally brilliant people, I've spent most of my life there and never had a thing nicked - ever. The number of times that I've been vulnerable (though my own fault most of the time) and people have helped me and not took advantage are uncountable. A scouser is a loyal friend to have and will fight for something they believe in to the death. I know that we sometimes steal stuff, but so do people in every city, every day - scousers ROCK!!!!! And Farhad, yes we have a very sexy accent, as long as it isn't too strong and sounds like you have issues with phlegm.
OK, slapped wrists over!
In answer to your question JC, as I say, I'm at Sheffield Uni - or at least I will be till tomorrow hopefully, when theoretically I qualify as a doctor and am the official property of the Northern General Hospital Colorectal Surgery Unit - mmmm, yummy.

Oooh and I do have a couple of pics, but they're a bit crap and I have no technical knowledge whatsoever and don't know how to load them up onto here!
