opps.....posted same thing for the third posting, sorry guys
The final results:
In the 57-75kg category, congrats to the champ who is Mr. Bernard Rahdin from Perak state Ipoh.
Bernard is a trainer/fighter of Sanda/Sanshou, Muaythai and Tae Kwon Do.
In the 40-56kg category, congrats to the champ who is Mr. Mohd. Ali from up north Kelantan state.
Ali is a Muaythai fighter who fights once every 1/2 weeks.
Our team member Khoo Meng Yang made it as the 1st runner-up in the final and lost via 5 rounds decision.
1st prelimary rounds, 2nd preliminary rounds and quarter finals was last minute amended to 5 x 2 minutes rounds with 1 minute rest, whereas semi finals and final remained 5 x 3 minute rounds with 2 minute rest.
A tough journey for Khoo who has made all of us proud for his fighting spirit. He carries injuries over each fight, having fought 2 experienced Muaythai fighters in quarter finals and semi finals.
He had 4 out of 5 fights going into 5 rounds decision in 2.5 days.
The results of our other team members:
1) Shawn Lee made it as quarter finalist lost via 5 rounds decision and had 3 fights in 1 day plus in the 57-75kg category.
2) Myself, Alex Lim lost via 5 rounds decision in the 1st preliminary rounds in the 57-75kg category.
3) Lim Chee Leong lost via 5 rounds decision in the 1st preliminary rounds in the 40-56kg category.
4) Kumar A/L Subramaniam lost via 5 rounds decision in the 1st preliminary rounds in the 57-75kg category.
5) Chee Jian Kai lost via 5 rounds decision in the 1st preliminary rounds in the 57-75kg category.
6) Sirichai Manichorte lost via 5 rounds decision in the 1st preliminary rounds in the 57-75kg category.
7) Former and last year champion Mohd. Zawawi Bin Awang The lost via TKO in the 3rd round due to an old knee injury in the 2nd preliminary rounds in the 57-75kg category.
What a pity as he was leading and dominating all the way.
Zawawi was also a former Malaysia Muaythai champion and former Malaysia 57kg and 60kg Amateur Western Boxing Champion.
Hi Amir Subasic,
I would try to ask some friends to get some pictures to upload later. Cheers mate.
wow....thats one big weight catagory 57 to 75kgs!!!!
Hi Noi666,
Yes that's one big weight category.
Last year it was even worse by having 1 weight category 40-75kg.
This yeas there were 40-56 & 57-75kg.
If you happen to be on the lighter side of the weight category, you better be more skillful and more experienced to cover the weight disadvantage.
Hopefully next year the organiser would make it much safer by having a few more weight categories with not such big gap.
The above 2 pictures were taken during one of the states selection - Negeri Sembilan.
My mate Khoo Meng Yang is the one in white short.
There were 3 fighters overweight for 57-75kg category.
The organiser let all the fighters vote to let them in the tournament or stick to the rule not let them in.
Majority including my team voted for them to be in.
Then my mate Khoo (70kg) happened to be drawn to fight 2 of them.
Luckily, Khoo won against Mr. Azizi (around 85kg then) via 3 rounds decision in quarter finals and won against Mr. Kamal Akhmal(around 90kg then) via 2 rounds KO in semi finals.
They were both former experinced national amateur western boxers.
They were good with punches but not so familiar with kicks and throws.
Thinking back it is a scarry idea to fight someones with such big weight gap.
We tought they were maybe around 80kg+- only until we met Mr. Azizi recently and he told us about it.
Almost forgot.....the pictures were taken by my mate/trainer Sakthi Nayagam. He's back to UK already. The team wish him and family the best. Thank him for his generosity in teams of teaching, sharing, advising, etc.
National Finals, 1st Preliminary Rounds, myself with Red gloves
