BRITISH INDEPENDENT KICKBOXING RANKINGS
(as of April 08)

One point of discussion this month sees the return of Marty Cox Jr to the rankings at number 1, a position he has held before. It is felt that the prior career record of Cox added to the nature of his victory in his first fight back against highly ranked Barinder Singh makes him worthy of the top spot, although we understand that some will feel this is unfair to previous number 1 Andy Burton. A fight between the two would certainly be welcome.

Gary Hamilton has also been ranked at number 3 reflecting his recent return to action, it is hoped this will mark the start of more regular activity for Hamilton and that bouts against the other highly ranked British fighters can now be made.

As always we welcome your comment

Regards

Great to see Aaron Robinson getting in there this time, onwards and upwards from here I reckon

Posted: 2008-04-18 03:21:23
I'm sure Aaron Robinson is much lighter than 72.5kg. He tends to fight around 67kg now.
Colin Payne
Posted: 2008-04-18 03:42:12
Aaron has just beaten Jason Curtis in a fight made at 72.5,and has been ranked accordingly.

He previosly and in fact still is ranked just outside the top 10 at welterweight. we will watch with interest where he fights from now on, but as I say a win over jason is worthy of recognition.

Great to see the rankings have been updated and my first point I was happy about is I wrote about Aaron Robinson as Sub Editor to F/C several months ago in Fighters magazine in a profile saying he was the next guy to watch! He has just come of a credible win over Jason Curtis, a top class fighter, proving his worth. A great guy who is cool with it all and just gets on with the job in hand. Well done Anvil!

Another prediction for the future……we will be seeing an awful lot of the young Daniel Winstanley from Bulldog Gym. I watched this guy at a show I went to and as an undercard he was easily the best fighter of the night. He turns 18 in December so watch out!

Greg Darmon still doesn’t feature in the rankings as yet but soon to fight No 3 placed Ricky Gammon in the 75kg category this could be a real top fight to watch! Both hard both skilled, well schooled and dangerous.

Ryan the “Hammer” Hamer is to face Lewis Patterson in a WAKO Pro British title defence in May. A win here will allow him to go on and finish off his career at WAKO Pro Euro and World level before he retires(Not underestimating Lewis skill of course). Patterson beat No1 Nick Gill and as it is proving difficult to match Hamer and Gill perhaps this will at least gauge Hamers full potential?

Kerry Louise has been training heavy and hard and has now officially moved up a weight, suited as a 67kg fighter she now lays 2nd in the 68kg section, having beaten Rachel a few years ago it now appears the re match is imminent for Kerry Louise to take the top spot. The challenge has been put forward. Would be nice to see her coach the great John Shiels defend his WAKO Pro title also on the same show.

So well done guys, keep up the hard work with the rankings, hopefully again they will produce some top level fights, saying that:

I will put on and sanction a show at a time to suit the following people so these fights can go ahead. 5 Class fighters plus Johns opponent who would obviously be credible.

The “Hammer” v Gill 10 round minimum as per TS’s request.
Kerry-Louise v Rachel Ealey
John Shiels WAKO Pro title defence.

Regards C ;-)

The Hammer V Lewis. Nice fight.

Darman Just outside the top ten so a good performance there will help him.

Lets not forget Rowley V Deakin for the IKF British Title on 8th June.

Some nice matches ahead:)

we had got Scot Taylor V Hamer in May but the promotore has gone with other options ie Lewis. It is a shame that after being offerd the fight we have wasted are time training and preparing for this fight.

BTKA, yes they are

Mark Ellwood vs John Shiels perhaps or even Mick Crossland.

Hamer vs Pattison, superb

Hamer vs Gill, think everyone wants to see this one.

8 man in the superlight weight 63.5kg max devision

Quasim Nisar vs Stacy Gosden in the future end of next year perhaps

Would love to see Kerry Louise vs Natalie Bee at an agreed weight between the two.

Ollie Green vs John Zucalla

Me vs Daniel Quigley possibly next year

Come to think of it any 8 man in any eight devision would be superb.

Would mix the rankings up constantly :)

Never seen Nick avoid anyone and I'm sure thats not the suggestion here, just that he has been at domestic level for so long that I dont blame him for wanting to spread his wings a bit on the back of his recent European Title win.

Natalie Bee and Kerry Louise are quite a bit apart in weights though arnt they? I would have thought that Julie Kitchen would be the best opponent at domestic level for her?

I have not seen John Shiels fight for about 3 years now. Is he still active? If so, he used to weigh 82k and that was the weight of the title he won from Jamie Norkett (WAKO Pro).

Young Daniel is an easy pick for a prospect footwork! Very talented young man. I might start a thread about who will be the next full contact talent.
Marlon 'The Game' Hunt
Posted: 2008-04-19 10:43:54
Yeah think Johns weight was 78.2kg – 81.4kg for WAKO Pro.
So If John is still round that weight either Mark or Mick would be a good match.

Not saying Nick is avoiding at all,(sorry if it seemed that way) just would be a really good match between the two.
Even Wes Fagan vs Nick or Ryan.

Natalie Bee vs Julie Kitchen would be a good match also (shame it prob won't happen though)

Also John orchard vs Dean
or Dean vs Fran.

You have Ricky Gammon vs Dean Sugden or Brian Aston
The rankings are def looking good and there are a lot of matches possible.

Mark, you spend a lot of time with or in contact with Carl, so yes, you may see young Dan as an easy pick as a prospect, I speak from an independent vein and in this case I picked up on someone who I had seen for the first time and I was impressed with. As Dans name is not "household" this is the reason I named him in this way and gave the lad the mention I think he rightfully deserved.

Re Kerry-Louise and Julie Kitchen, well time will just tell ;-) ;-) all will be revealed!

Re Nick, whos talking evasions??? Its easy lets just get the fight on!

Alexander White from scotland has beat Aubrey Tarr 2 or 3 times in the past and not long ago fought an elimanator fight for the wkn european at 62 or 4 not sure.

Well welcome for the first time to Gary.

With respect to "thats crap". May be so but that will be the first time we at the rankings office have recieved the information you have provided.

"Thats a little innacurate" may have been more appropriate. Aubrey was placed in that position because he had recently fought you and we presumed that he had to be considered good enough for that challenge if the fight had gone ahead. We had little on him but felt a placing for one month would bring out comments that would assist accuracy for the following month. Obviously that is what has happenned.
What you guys may know very rarely filters down to us unless you tell us so any direct help is appreciated. It's a difficult task we do for no money so a positive and constructive outlook does help. It does seem to slowly be making a difference.
Thanks

Just to underline what carl has said really. We can only work on the information given. For some reason many do not wish to furnish us with information, or at least thats what we have to assume when we make so many public appeals for info and get minimal return.

Point in question Alexander White from Scotland who you say has beaten Tarr. We have made many appeals for info from scotland with no luck. So if we have found this out just by putting Tarr in the rankings then I suppose thats good, but we could have just been told earlier and we could have ranked possibly more accurately.

we pride ourselves in doing a lot of work on the rankings (and we do beleive me) but our detective work can only go so far, and we need everyone to help us with info and support. The actual idea of the rankings cannot be argued with I would think by anyone who has the best interests of the sport at heart, in which case we would like everyone to help by sending as much information forward as possible.

we have a dedicated e-mail address kickboxingratings@hotmail.co.uk and all correspondence is treated in strict confidence.

Footwork (Cris)

I was not being sarcastic, just meant to support the original comment. It can be hard to see the true meaning in the written word.

Same with Nattalie B. I have seen her fight and she is very fit and comfortable at her weight. When she goes up I believe she will struggle.

It was me that used the word avoid, actually I used the phrase not avoiding. I just think that Nick has served his time at domestic level and it would not supprise me if on the back of his european title win that he now wanted to fight more at an international level. This is just my oppinion. I have seen Nick fight many times oveer the years and remain a fan.

Thanks for clarification Mark,

So what you are saying is that Nick may be tempted if I can sanction a WAKO Pro International title between these two guys??

Dont get me wrong I am in no way whatsoever stating that "The Hammer" will definitely win, I respect both Nick and Trevor and their skills, but what I am saying is that this fight should go ahead!

Let me make some enquiries and I will be back to the thread, hopefully with a written proposal to the camp?

Wo hoo just got in from training and a fight between Ryan and Nick would be superb!!!

I know Nick is way above domestic level and there has to be something in it for Nick (Why keep fighting people if you are a World Class fighter?). Ryan will be defending his British for the last time soon vs Lewis Pattison I think, so an International title fight between the 2 should be the next step as both have beaten Steve Swinburn (great fighter also)

2 very contrasting styles and 2 very fit and experienced fighters.
Great domestic Superfight for a credible title and No1 spot.

Get it on. lol :)

Mark,

Looks like we might have to put a challenge in to WAKO Pro World HQ first as all categories are contended at Ryan and Nicks weight.

It was my Intention to take Ryan out of the domestic scene next year anyway and try for the other top titles before his retirement. Ryan has achieved 3 World titles under 3 different organisations and would love to add the WAKO Pro or even ISKA to it before he hangs up the gloves! (Not discounting Goldenbelt or IKF either)

Maybe its time to make that move after his next fight against Lewis Patterson regardless of result as he is also ranked at World level in WAKO Pro.
