Some of the touted favourites are Youseff, Pinca, Petchmonkong and Liam with Rob and Tim thinking Youseff might be the goods to take it out.

Awesome looking tournament and 1st round will be live on thai t.v channel 3 29th of August between 1400-1630 (Thai time) so if you can get it online you can watch this great event.

A far less tidy fight between the Japanese and Turkish boxers, both losing position and balance many times. It turned into a bit of a boxing match with a few spinning back kicks from Arican (Turkey).Soichiro Miyakoshi (Japan) who looked big, proved too strong in the end and won on points. Only the second fight to go the distance (the other one the Spanish boxer won earlier)

A strong looking Dutch lad won on points against his Moroccan opponent(the second round 8 count won the fight -very good hook). The rest of the fight was a little untidy with the Moroccan trying to score with body kicks but falling off balance with the boxer from Holland attacking mostly with punches.

best show i have ever seen or been to. right from the start atmosphere was amazing and the opening to the show was pure class. whoever sorted out and choreographed the routines and composed the music then put it all together is an absolute genius and should be working in hollywood!
seriously, it was awesome. some of the fighters in the tourny were a bit out of their depth i think, just a handful but their were some wicked tear ups. Liam, Pinca and petchmongkong were a different class for sure, final will come down to two of them unless someone else pulls off something ridiculous.

it was a proper mint day from start to finish. Liam was sharp as anything, he is gonna take the japanese guy apart in the next round. the final will be a spectacular show if the opening one was anything to go by.

Japanese looks big, hope size and strength isn't an issue if it goes the distance, crazy that Liam is fighting well above his weight in this but still looking like he can dominate.

It's such a shame there's zero coverage or interest in Harrison's career in any sports media in this country, would be a wicked story or feature for something like the Observer Sport Monthly

Oh and osta, that just killed me lol. good work.

It is shit that people dont get the recognition they deserve in our sport, and tbf thats why where so behind in everything, like the size of shows, the money involved for the fighters such a lack of media attention, and the thing is you can go to a boxing show every weekend and you it will be very rare that you will go home talking about a certain fight youve seen, but literally 90% of thai shows i go to we always go home saying "that fight was ace" about 1 or more, its a joke. If Muay Thai was up there with Boxing liam is basically up there with the likes of mayweather, hatton (at his best and not fat as fuck) and the pacman but yet no body has a clue who he is outside the sport. It a joke.

On a lighter note and back to topic SMASH EM UP HITMAN :) x

I realise this isn’t the time or the thread to start this but since Andy has brought I thought I’d at least take the time to explain our position.

Fight Inc. is trying to put on the best Muay Thai Shows in the UK, rivalling the best of boxing and emulating the UFC’s success. We spend a huge amount of money on the production side, giving the best atmosphere, entrances and all round experience. We use more cameras than any other show, guaranteeing we get the right shot at the right time. We hope to be the first Muay Thai Promotions Company to get coverage on free-to-air mainstream TV. We are already holding talks to achieve this. We put on more shows and cater to a wider talent and audience than any other promoter does or has done. We have established Rumble at the Reebok; our Flagship show displaying some of the top Muay Thai Talent in the UK and the World, Rising at the Reebok; a show designed specifically for upcoming talent, far removed from the days of the working men’s clubs and Ultimate Lads Night; a halfway house with some fun Gentlemen’s Entertainment. We will also be launching Commercial/Charity/White Collar Events.

We are trying to do what’s best for the sport, we only use professional, legitimate Sanctioning Bodies, namely the UKMF, WMC and ISKA. We are a Sandee Sponsored organisation and could quite easily put on several Sandee World Title Fights per show. We have chosen not to do this as it damages the sport and dilutes the achievement of truly professional titles. The UKMF is not without its flaws but it is certainly trying to take the sport forward as a whole and prevent the problems we all know exist in other sanctioning bodies (see Andy’s perfectly accurate comments RE: WMC on Dan’s 8 Man Tourney thread here) and we thank them for this.

The Muay Thai Industry by its very nature is composed of egos. Fighters go hand in hand with egos, it is a necessary evil required for competition at this level. The unfortunate side effect of this though is the constant ‘oneup-manship’ and undermining tactics within the industry come at the expense of the advancement of the sport.

If you haven’t stopped reading at this point :-) you're probably wondering how this relates to Andy’s comments about recognition outside of our little niche circle. Well here goes:

Within the Fight Inc umbrella is Salford Muay Thai of which I’m sure most of you already know. Salford has managed to garner its’ fair share of success in a very short space of time and is now home to 9 title holders. What some of you may or not be aware of is Salford is now home to 2 of the top UFC Fighters, namely Ross Pearson and Mike Bisping. With this addition, Salford and by proxy Fight Inc has had the opportunity to get a foot into the UFC world, see how the cogs turn and most importantly develop relationships with people that matter and can affect change. We have regular press interviews in the gym, meetings with new sponsors, fighter exposes and general all round exposure. Andy’s comments about Liam being a virtual unknown outside of MT are spot on. Liam is a Mayweather, a GSP, a Hatton, a Liddell but the MT industry is the weak link. I would even go as far as to say, and I maybe crucified for this but, that our fighter Daitan Jackson has a more well known name outside of Muay Thai in the UK than Liam does. Why? Because of careful management and sponsorship deals with our main sponsors FightShop and Sandee, Daitan is on Sandee posters in nearly every Sandee Stockist in the country. Every Sandee purchase from FightShop ships with a poster of Daitan or Ross Pearson who is also sponsored by FightShop and Sandee (poster here). I am not for one minute saying that we have obtained better sponsorship or trying to rub anyone’s face in it, I am merely trying to convey my point that it is not necessarily about the product but how it is sold and distributed. If we apply the same principal to the Muay Thai Industry in the UK and we treat it like a product, we all do our best for the product in whatever ways we can and if anyone acts out in a selfish way that damages our product then it is remedied quickly and efficiently, then I think we have a real chance of taking Muay Thai mainstream.

I think we all agree that Muay Thai is far more exciting than boxing and the general standard of Muay Thai in the UFC is poor. Currently, Wrestling and Boxing are to the UFC what GP2 is to F1 (to use a motor racing reference). They are feeding most of their best talent into the better known best brand. Muay Thai can easily replace them as a feeder and eventually a competitor to the UFC.

I hope I've conveyed my point across properly and I don’t just sound like the wimp in the corner crying and saying “can’t we all just get along”. If we all work together we can make this great.

Lastly, and thankfully on topic, we at Fight Inc and Salford Muay Thai would just like to say a big GOOD LUCK to Liam for the rest of the tournament and we hope he brings back a big ‘W’ for the UK . If Liam gets coverage, the sport gets coverage and we all win. If the sport gets coverage then Liam as A, if not The, Figurehead of our sport gets coverage and we all win. We therefore urge you all to get behind Liam and give him support.

Regards,

Gaz @ Fight Inc

P.s I apologise for the rant x

Yeah ... 'bout sums up the position MT is in, and where it should hopefully end up ..... as a real contender for free-to-air coverage against UFC.
I would like to believe that Joe Public would find MT far more exciting to watch than UFC. I know there's a great ammount of skill in ground-fighting, but its damned boring to watch.

Knobsy
Posted: 2010-09-04 12:10:23
Whoops.... I missed a bit. I meant boring to watch to the uneducated of ground-fighting. I'm sure MT would appeal more to the masses, even those that know nothing about the sport.

a lot of strong claims in that post from avi. however i feel it subtracts from what andy was saying. whilst muay thai has not got the coverage it deserves in the uk. it is slowly but surely building ground now. brand sponsorship is only a small part to this. things need to be refocused on the fighters to ensure they get the money they deserve. we have some of the best fighters in the world and it's about time them and their trainers get paid!
Avi D Jacobson
Posted: 2010-09-04 12:56:28
I appreciate the positive comments and the constructive feedback.

John, I think you may have missed my point or not read it in its entirety. I am not talking about using brand sponsorship to take MT forward. That is impossible. I merely used the sponsorship analogy with Daitan as a vehicle to express my point that it is not the product (the product being Liam and Daitan in this case) but how it is packaged and sold, that is more important. If we then take the analogy and transpose in onto the Muay Thai Industry, I am saying that although MT is a great product (more exciting than Boxing, Wrestling, advantages over UFC etc) it is how the Industry is packaged and sold that is the determining factor on whether it goes mainstream. I hope this clarifies it.

hi gaz,

totally understand where you are coming from. i just felt that you were trying to push from an equipment sponsorship perspective, which there is nothing wrong with, as long as it is portrayed in the light of what it is. i dont want to get into the ins and outs of equipment, because it subtracts from the event and fighters. however please be truthful in what you say about the thai brands, because at the moment your view is very one sided.

thanks,

John,

You clearly have an issue with what I've written. I never mentioned what shows we have coming up. That's the 3rd time you've either misquoted or misunderstood what I've written. Can I politely suggest you read it again. I prefixed what I wrote with an acknowlegement that this isnt the thread for this discussion but since a topic within the thread has been raised I will detail Fight Inc's thoughts.

If you wish to discuss this further my email address is gaz@fightinc.co.uk. I await your email with bated breath.

i have to agree with john that this discussion should have its own thread !! andy is so rite that are best fighters that are house hold names to us that follow the sport but are actually nobodies to joe public !

we talk about reconigition, and john talks about it being about the fighter, and them and there trainers getting paid properly !!

but its chicken and egg !! to be paid you need a profile !! to have a public profile you need exposure ! to get exposure in the first place you need some angle (to use a bad one alex reid boning jordan) now he has a hugh public profile, love him or hate him he has the publics attention so now people will pay him to do stuff sponsor wise because he has exposure !

thai brands are great for us in a little community but lets face it, liam, andy etc should, given the fact of what they have achieved in the sport, should be wearing nike and addidas and be 6ft carboard cut outs in a ££££££££ sponsor deal but there not !!

why ??

nobody has ever been prepaired in this country to take a punt at getting these guys out there in the public eye. and i don't mean local press !!! to give liam the exposure he would need to get real public attention would cost 1000's in fact 10's of 1000's

so how do we do it ??? shows ??? media ???? ............... maybe but again it all costs

dan green has an excellent show on the way in huge venue that should be on prime time tv !!! but again it all costs !! and who is gonna stump up that money !!!

its a long slow hill but we are trying! dan, myself and team, richard smith, ste logan etc etc great promotions are at present, all we have got ! lets hope one of us cracks it !! so we can all grow !

gaz your post was bang on mate !!

Once again Axforum is leading people to the wrong conclusions about what people are actually thinking. Like I always have said public forums are great for publicizing events and news but other then that all they do is fuel rage and disagreements. They do nothing to further anything, whether it be show promotion, fighters achievements or more importantly Muay Thai. After all we are all after the same goal, rite ? Personally i prefer to discuss issues face to face but perhaps i am just old fashioned but at least this way its all done and dusted. I just wish bitchy, pettiness took a back seat for once and people finally realized that no matter who they thought they were in the so called 'Muay Thai game' cooperation is the key to success.

just want to get this refocused on liam, because afterall this thread was about liam. he did an awesome job on his opponent here, which for us British is something we should be very very proud of. Lets get all the politics and petty disputes behind us and continue to build muay thai in the uk. organisations can only exist with compromises. there has been so much good work done already for the sport in uk. lets continue to build upon it and make it what it truly should be in the uk.

Liam won by KO in round 3 - took him apart and then hit him with a left elbow that finished him.

We are now waiting to hear what will happen with the next round as Liam was really ill and unable to make weigh. He was 68.5 the morning of the weigh in and went to lost the last bit by jogging which would have been easy as its a heavy weight for him so he isnt boiled down. However he felt ill and as soon as he started running he puked and ended up on his hands and knees puking bile.

He was 68kg at the weigh in so went to jog the last bit off but the same thing happened and he puked in front of everyone and had to lie down. Jitti took him to hospital and they put him on a drip.

As soon as the fight was over he ran and puked again.

As he didnt make weigh we arent sure whether he can progress to the next round.

Awesome words and insight. The man knows his stuff and has a laser beam mental focus. "Anyone can beat any fighter, no matter what country they're from, no matter what gym they're from"

So true, and those words prove why he is so amazing because he expects everyone he fights to be as hungry as him and thus he gives 1000%.

Liam is quickly becoming one of my favorite fighters...now if only he'd stop using those damned pink gloves LOL.

Youssef was cruising in opening bout after clearly winning first two rounds but got dropped last minute of 3rd and went to extra round as ruled a draw, Youssef won 4th round to go through.

Fabio Pinca won pts to go through

Liam as you know won, but due to not making weight Japanese fighter went through in his place to next round

Thai won on points to also go through

not a wind up just a bent country.

You dont turn up to play a game of any sport because your ill you forfeit the match.
You dont make weight in a title fight and they decide to fight its not for the title, nothing bent about that.
Rules are their for everyone

Ernesto Guevara
Posted: 2010-10-25 11:42:16
This sucks, but rules are rules. Still sucks but what can you do. Just remember the Bob "the Joke" Sapp vs. Ernesto Hoost when Sapp beat Hoost but Hoost advanced due to Sapp being injured.

Granted, the situation isn't similar here but you can see the correlation of the loser advancing. In any case, this is total horse shit, its cow shit and Liam should advance. But rules are the rules and we have to accept it...I guess.

I think the event organizers should REALLY look into this and see if there's a loop hole to exploit in order to make Liam's advancement fair and adherent to the rules.

We're rooting for you Liam!

Why let him fight at all then ????

Posted: 2010-10-25 15:42:05
why not? It was supposed to happen. If you dont do what is required you dont get the reward. unfortunately he was ill it just happens and you have to deal with it and move on as im sure he will.

Well done Liam sounds like a great performance when not even fully fit. As above why let the fight happen if the result wasn't going to determine who goes through, what the hell was the point? The salient point is that some person or persons gave the okay for the fight to proceed and once that happened the winner of the fight has to go through! It's like letting an FA Cup quarter final proceed in the knowledge an ineligible player is turning out for one of the sides then disqualifying the team after the game has played!

if you cant make the weight then no fight

Posted: 2010-10-25 16:20:12
not much you can do about it now. He didnt make weight so i guess they thought they would use him and keep the fight on and tell him after so he couldnt have pulled out of the fight.
Did he know that they would take him out of the tournament whether he won or lost?

Seems very unfair to let him fight and then say know. Perhaps you could understand if they said no fight and the Jap goes through on a bye. But knowing that they wernt going to let liam through should mean he shouldnt of fought. IMO liam should go through, however i can undertsand why not, but as ive said, why let the fight happen???

was a kilo over so end of....rules are rules really....2 of the promoters who are the main guys have seen me weigh/fight at 63kg and they all sdaw me last time weigh 66kg lightest out the lot, but as said the main sponsors are japanes so no chance of an agreement and i dont expect one....i was over the weight end of....only had to drop a kilo but i was so ill it was unreal, had felt dodgy all week but sundat the weigh in day killed me, needed to drop a bit of weight but literally couldnt do anything without spweing...i wish it was water too cos would have made weight that way but it was bile and gren shit...tried to run and sauna a bit but literlly couldnt do it....not even to drop 2 punds i was a total mess....i said to jitti today at5 the fight im sorry if i make the gym look stupid on tv cos was terrified i was gonna get leathered...turned out the fight was easier than i thought...i won pretty easy...even tho i ate no breakfat5s only 1 piece of pineapple...2 brand chicken drinks and 2 birds nest drinks (people who been thailand will no what they are) ran straight out the ring and spewed up...was worst luck iv ever had really....would haVE loved to have gone through to the final but things happen for a reason i guess...everyone knows iv had trouble makin weigh before dick...but at 61kg not 67 so dont try that....im not a btotal dick as to fuck up 40grand on purpose you twat

rematch is only fair solution the rest is fucking bullshit money talking same old same japan big tip small dick ridiculous basically liam would have handled moustaffa yousef or whatever his name is back to the sahara then volleyed the thai but it would have been a decent fite. side note Pinca is class a fight between him and harrison at say 64/65max would be nice for any promoter in europe and pay them decent money he deserves it.

It was a great elbow Phil, but it is difficult to see on the video. The finish was great, for me the overall performance was better still. Given his condition, Liam fought really smart, often moving back and scoring really well. Liam would have won this clearly if it had gone to points.

Liam, I have a copy of the channel three footage if you want it. My copy is not perfect, but shows the elbow from loads of different angles.

That was awesome. Japanese guy was a big unit too, he didn’t fancy those leg kicks much either did he?

Reminds me I never want to get my jaw elbowed into oblivion. What a mental sport, I’ll stick to badminton I think
