Im new to the Muay Thai Scene but have been watching alot of the top uk fighters on Youtube.
I just want to say unlucky liam, you did really well, loved the cartwheel kick in round 5 against sanchai 1. Good Luck on the re-match.. how can i grab a ticket for it??
Beating Sanchai and his other Thai opponent in Scotland (sorry can't remember his name) should surely cement Liam's position as LB 4 LB no1? Pinca fight must happen this year too!
What difference does it make to you two what weight its at? What point are you trying to make?
Its at 63 which Sanchai is quite comfortable at. I fact last time he fought Liam he was almost a kilo heavier at the weigh in and very solid.
I think people are just generally interested in what weight the fight will be at that's all. Usually Sanchai fights at a much lower weight but if he must bulk up in muscle(he is in good condition) to get to 64kilos and this is why they are asking.
Liam is naturally bigger and this will give him an advantage in some areas and hopefully land some of those big punches.
It will be another good fight. Good luck to both
He was 2kg heavier ? .... liam get on the kebebs son lol .....
There are always gonna be nay sayers and haters ... ... shit ive had plenty in my time lol , But Liam has already won before he gets in the ring , British Muaythai has won ..
I'm pretty bloody sure Liam knows how to and wot to do to win(on judges cards) this time .
and i dont think for 1 min he would fight him if he didnt think he could win as was the case last time .
Sawatdee Khrup!
More important than what weight and who has the best hairstyle, another great fight on British soil.
Let's not forget Dan Green who might look like an elegant swan above water but those feet of his are paddling faster than a bumble bees bum to get this show organised-Well done Dan.
Also to Liam and all the fighters on the show chock dee maak!
Well said Shaun.
Big shout out to Dan and Laura at Fight Sport Industries for bringing Thai superstar Saenchai Sor Kingstar / (Saenchai Sinbi Muay Thai) back to the Uk.
There's no question Harrison gave Saenchai a fight in their first meeting and look at what Harrison has done since.
He demolished a Dutch opponent on Si Audleys first show in Liverpool, then gave a very strong account of himself against Sagetdao Petchpayatai in 2009. 2010 he beat Anuwat at MEN then he fought up at 67kgs in the Thai fight tournament beating foreign opposition (even when ill).
Harrison is a re-match specialist too, after defeating stadium champions Namphon PK Sterio and Anuwat Kaewsamrit in re-matches previously.
Personally, I reckon Harrison will take this one, he gave Saenchai a fight in the first meeting and he's been consistently fighting at a top level since and has gained more and more experience.
I won't deny that I'm a fan...that said, everyone should be. He's a very personable, approachable and humble world champion athlete. More than anyone else in UK thai boxing currently, it's him who is flying the flag for all UK Nak Muays abroad.
Get behind him folks, this is a big deal for everyone.
Rant over!
what would the haters be saying if it was liam with 200+ fights against sanchais 60? bet theyd bring that one up lol. but wait..its the other way round isnt it.
I`ve a feeling Liam will take this as well. I think it will be his defining fight and the one where all the experience and skills developed over the years just come together on one night.
All the people posting on here slagging Liam off are all wankers in my opionion. Liam is fighing the best p4p fighter in the world in Muay Thai and hat off to him for doing so, even more so after already doing so and knowing 1st hand how clever and what a great nak muay sanchai is.
All the best and i hope you win. I for sure will be there rooting for you and UK muay thai.
people are jealous mate, i personally would be on cloud 9 fighting at that level.good on ya
One thing for certain it will be a great fight whoever takes the win. Lets not forget this is an open forum for people to give opinions that said I hope liam smashes him to silence a few of the doubters
To be fair though chris - I don't think anybody here has been slagging Liam off. Some people trying to stir things up and some putting forward honest opinions, but nobody that I've seen actually slag him off.
edlin faught the same guy i faught in chiang mai but i faught him while he was active and was a real handfull and edlin stopped him but i had money on the thai beating him, never heard of him at the time! very strong in the fight i seen him! never took a backwards step
Great to see Leigh Edlin vs Kris Addis fight happening,I have seen Leigh just getting better and better with each fight and was impressed with Kris's fight with Pete Adams. This weight division has been heating up for a while and I think this could be fight of the night.McCoy vs Harper will be good to see and Wayne is certainly going to be explosive,I think he will win this one.
Dan, are you looking for any B class undercard fights between 68-70 at all for this show?
That will be an awesome fight Trainor v Rungravee i put it on the thread "fights youd like to see in 2011" a while back def think i'll be taking the trip down to see the show. Watched DT fight a few times and lookin forward to seeing him in action again up here in scotland next wknd.... Quality fighter
I think a lot of people have been holding-off posting on this thread to see what naturally evolves (AND also buying tickets), due to lack of feedback from promotion (and fighters).
Seems a bit suspicious - no posts for last 3 weeks and now just 3 weeks off something from Rob.
Whats the final line-up?
Yeh I just posted that for a laugh, its a problem I have with compulsive lying.
This is from Saenchai himself what he posted on his facebook "got a visa today to go england for fight with Liam 2, see u in doncasrer around 6th-10th march 2011"
seems Saenchai is also lying, and the girl at the wmc who confirmed to me that they got the visa's also lying and the goddamn British embassy lying and sticking fake visas in their passports.
Bit suspicious when there is not much to post so no one posts anything and when they finally do someone doesn't believe it.
Saenchai has his visa along with Rungrawee, he has been paid a deposit to fight and signed a contract to fight and is looking forward to come and fight on the 9th, so unless you are a sad twat with a hidden agenda for the show to fail, then you can all stop the silly rumor mongering.
Haha Fahad
Went over my head that. I thought rob was refering to the other comment (and those above re. saenchai).
Ive no hidden agenda and dont want to see any show fail. Cant wait to see the little man dance again BUT I know lots are holding off buying tickets. simple as really!
Don't know who is holding back on tickets but it will certainly be their loss if they miss out on this awesome show and fantastic line up. Leigh has over 80 supporters turning up for his fight and I am sure Kriss will have a large following too. It's going to get noisey, and that's just the fighters!
Harrison "I'm not there to play around - I'm there to win"
Short interview with Liam Harrison ahead of next week's world class super fight.
1. How do you feel about fighting Sanchai again?
Really excited, I'm glad I've got a second chance at the lb for lb best there is out there. Not many people get 2nd chances so I intend to grab mine with both hands!
2. How do you feel about his comment he will 100% be the winner?
Of course he is going to say/think that. He won the 1st fight for a start and well he's Saenchai :) It doesn't bother me, I prefer to be the underdog.
3. How is training going?
Training is going really well, it's been a very gruelling last 4 weeks
4. Are you training any differently for the fight this time?
Im training similar to how I always train, I always give 100% in training no matter who I'm fighting, but there are a few adjustments that have been made this time.
5. Any change of tactics or particular game plan this time?
Yeah Richard (Smith) has been working with me on a different gameplan for this fight. I think it's a great strategy and I'm really looking forward to putting it to good use.
6. What's your prediction for the fight?
It's going to be a great fight like the first one, but this time I'm not gonna be there to play around, I'm there to win.
Sanchai - "Harrison's still the best I've faced - but 100% I will be the winner again"
England waits with baited breath for the Harrison vs Sanchai rematch in just under two weeks.
We got the chance to do a short interview with Sanchai ahead of the April 9th rematch.
1. How do you feel about coming back to England to fight?
I'm pleased and proud to get the chance to fight again, England is one of my favorite places to visit and I'm looking forward to it.
2. Did you have to pull out of a fight in Thailand in February due to injury?
Yes I had an injury on my knee from a fight in December, so I pulled out to give myself enough time to rest and get ready for the fight with Liam.
3. And that injury is 100% okay now?
Yes it's o.k now, I'm 100% fit and ready to fight!
4. What other fights do you have lined up?
I most likely have a fight in Lumpini in May, then I'm going to Italy to promote a future fight there and in June I go to Australia where I have a rematch with Kurt Finlayson.
5.Are you training any differently for this fight?
I will be showing all the old Saenchai techniques from before, but I'm also working on some new techniques to show and will have some more fiercer stuff this time.
6. Is Liam Harrison still the best Farang to date that you have faced?
Yes he's the best foreign boxer I have fought to date.
7. How do you feel about fighting him again?
I'm happy to get the chance in England and if Liam feels that he can beat me and can win this time I'm happy to give him the chance again.
8. What's your prediction for the fight?
Im 100% sure and confident that I will be the winner again.
Rumour has it that Sanchai has been practising a new trick to top his cartwheel kick.....
thought we were mates matt? you do wank off thais more than anyone iv ever met in my life tho so you will prob be in saenchais corner and trying to sniff his groin guard after
well somone who you think is meant to be your mate goin on a forum trying to bet against you to line there own pocket is bit offensive to me so where even
Liam - This is not an afront on you as a person or as you as a fighter, Im sorry you have took it that way.Im just a punter making a bet on a sporting event.Like I said no offence was intended, and I apologise unreservedly that I have caused offence.I also genuinely never thought that you considered me among your mates? So again, sorry, not the intention I had.Im sure it will be a highly skillful, entertaining and exciting fight.
Make it interesting a further £20 if it gets stopped by ko tmi etc and I know it will. email me your details at eddiedaeagle@hotmail.co.uk totally genuine betting here.
Cant wait now, there's gunna fireworks before and during the fights....Liam Harrison, Damien trainer, Andy thrasher and all the British lads good luck chaps! x
I was supposed to be taking my bird out Saturday, but am going to this instead, lol. Was hoping to at least take her to the pub for an hour after, the old romantic that I am.
i heard seanchai hurt is knee and wasnt coming over, well who the fucks that then.
enjoy the show people cos you dont often see the best. {i see him every day.}xx
Ive only seen Kev Harper fight once and based on that (limited I know) I think Wayne McKoy will win. He is a joy to watch, packs alot of power with that speed.
Though I'm a huge Saenchai fan but tonight my best wishes are with Liam and Damion, Andy and Joe for that matter - do us proud boyz.
Also hoping all fighters have good show and ultimately have a 'safe' fight night regardless of the outcome.
Good show!
Thanks Dan for the invite and thanks to all the guys who fought and put on a good one for the public (such as myself LOL). Thanks again guys!!!
That show was brilliant! I enjoyed the dome better than the MEN. Fights were class really enjoyed Joe hanlon v Luke greenshields fight ive never heard a crowd moan at the round finishing haha they were knocking seven bells out of each other and everyone was waiting for a KO and the bell went!
One thing that done my head in was, that has nothing to do with the promotion is when the fights were going we were screaming for Damien to win with some of his team mate beside us. But when Liam v saenchi came on they were screaming for saenchi WTF? I understand the sinbi crew supporting saenchi but 3 woppers with no connection :-/
From what i saw of the show it was great and enjoyed the venue a lot more than the last show that was at the Dome it was fantastic Dan.
To be honest I only saw two fights which was my mates Luke Greenshileds and Liams. Luke's was a great fight which had the crowd really on the edge of their seats! I thought it was a great performance and really could of gone either way, the way you two where knocking each other down lol.
Liams was class, Seanchai tried to play about in the first but Liam really made him work from the 2nd up to the start of the 5th. Seanchai just played the game really well in that round, but what a perfromance by Liam. A lot of my "team mates" that I'd spoken too felt Liam had won and was a little disappointed in the decision, I tried to explain how it works to the best of my ability but it went over there heads a little but they still thoroughly enjoyed the whole evening.
Fight Sport Industries events are getting better everytime
Well done to Dan Green on pulling off a fantastic show. Some top notch fights on there. Stunning efforts bu Damien and Liam against two of the very best Thais in the world.
Also well done to Kriss Addis on his title win.
And finally what a result for Joe Hanlan in what has to be one of the best fights i've seen in ages!!
Excellent show Dan and team...including Jessie and the runners who helped make the show run like clockwork, really well done everyone. Some exciting early fights that kept the audience on the edge of their seats - some great skills and some big hearts shown. Well done all the fighters (and their respective coaches). There were too many good performances to mention individually but nobody could deny that Damien and Liam both did the UK proud against formidable opposition.
Despite Rungavee looking like he wanted to rip Damien's head off his shoulders and throwing some horrible looking kicks, strong knees and vicious punches, Damien did actually look like he was having fun. Rungavee changed part way through one of the early rounds and I think it must have been because Damien hurt him. His eyes glazed over and he looked like he wanted to eat Damien, but Damien kept his cool and smiled. Damien used his head, demonstrated some really good skills and showed he had a heart the size of the Doncaster Dome.
Sanchai is without a doubt the world's best, a phenomenal fighter with sublime skills and real power, but he really had to fight last night - no messing around because he really knew he couldn't. Liam took the fight to him, gave it everything and should be really proud. One cartwheel kick very early on and then Sanchai had to focus 110%. Sanchai was throwing some really clinical punches and looked like he had hurt Liam to the body and then Liam hit Sanchai with an elbow cutting him and things got really interesting again. Liam managed to kick Sanchai off his feet at least three times during the fight and refused to concede defeat until the bell. Sanchai was made to fight by Liam, but he did show some amazing skills to avoid Liam's bombs and score with punches, kicks, teeps and throws in the clinch - he was pushed into pulling out a great performance anything less would not have been good enough.
Both Liam and Damien lost on points but won a lot of hearts with their fighting spirit last night. Brilliant, well done.
...forgot to mention the referee, Darren was not really noticed too much last night because he did such a great job in refereeing some really big fights - well done mate. Also well done to the other judges too, lots of pressure at such a big show but everyone kept a clear head and demonstrated some very high consistency - all fights that went the distance were unanimous.
Somebody with a better memory will do a better job than me but these are the results I remember:
Joe Hanlon (Kiatphontip Leeds) Vs Luke Greenshields (Team Fearless)- Joe won TKO after both boxers had taken counts.
Sam Omogobe (Liams Gym) Vs Harry Heyes (Studio 2000 Derby)- Sam won TKO 8 seconds to go in the fight. Harry showed great heart against a very strong looking Sam who landed some bombs and strong knees throughout.
Rocaldo Gardner (Cobra Nottingham) Vs Peter Steed (King Cobra Durham)
Peter won points.
John Aong (Chang Kow Doncaster) Vs Brian Crichton (Kirkby Thai)
John won points.
Andy Thrasher (Erawan Manchester) Vs Diego Santuccio
(Italy)
Andy won KO body kickearly in round one.
Joe McGovan (SDF Sheffield) Vs Garatti (Italy)
Joe won TKO in round one.
Damien Trainor (K Star England) Vs Rungravee Sasiprapa (Sasiprapa Thailand)
Rungravee won points - brilliant fight.
UKMF British title
Leigh Edlin (Chao Praya Lincoln) Vs Kris Addis (Kao Loi Harrogate)
Kris won TKO - Kris dominated in the clinch and won the fight with knees, Leigh should real spirit and asked if he could present Kris with the belt.
Liam Harrison (Bad Company England Vs Sanchai Sor Kingstar (Sinbi Thailand)
The show, Damien & Liams fights and the whole experience was great! 'team mates' was not a pop at you Damien your fight was class. It was a pop at a couple of divvies getting behind the wrong fighter. Andy thrasher? Where'd that kick come from what a kick they heard that in Liverpool :)
I think calling then 'Divvies' and saying they got behind the wrong fighter is a bit harsh ha ha....
If you're paying for a ticket surely you can support who you want regardless of connection...
Personally I think it was good that both fighters had great support as that creates a better atmosphere, as long as the fans aren't booing (which never side was) what harm can it do.
A great show, only saw a few fights, brilliant performaces by Kris Addis (bad luck Leigh) and Liam!!
I was very pleased with Damien who stuck to the plan and didn't get drawn into fighting Rungravee's fight as sometimes happens when he fights Thai's. Brilliant performance and every one at K-Star is very proud of him.
now that fight with damien and the thai was worthy of a world title. you surely understand when i said the last guy damien faught for a mad title was not really world caliber, compare the two opponants? rungrawee its far far superior.
Very tough fight to score from the 3 rounds up on Youtube at the moment... It was very impressive how Harrison upended Saenchai so many times and he was clearly coming forward more. Saenchai's body punching in the third round was evil though, and he was scoring frequently with body kicks as Liam came in. Does anyone know where to get the first two rounds from?
I think that the Rounds 3, 4 and 5 (i.e. the business rounds) on youtube show that Saenchai won under Thai rules. It was closer than the first for sure, and a real war this time with both boys looking very tired in that last round.
Bit weird how the grapple is cut so damn quickly over there though. It's like a 3 second grapple tops before the ref jumps in for the break.
I for one am a sanchai fan and if I could have made it would have been cheering for him. He is a true champion and flys around the world fighting naturally bigger men and showcasing his skills.
Why should I support someone I don't even know just because they are British?
I bought a ticket to watch Sanchai and supported Sanchai. I am Brithish and so is Liam but that makes no difference to me. I like to watch Sanchai fight the same as I like to go and watch the Gunners. I pay my money to watch and support what i like.
On any other show Hanlon V Greenshields would have been hard to beat as fight of the night.
How quick was Thrasher's left body kick!
Damian and Liam were both superb against undeniably two of the Best Muay Thai boxers in the world. Neither one of them had an easy pay day. Well done for taking it too them in style, lads!
Pictures will be up by the end of the day - I'll post a couple of highlight galleries here and link you up to the rest later.
Thanks again to Dan and Laura for inviting me to photograph the show.
For me (obviously cause he is my cousin and really close to me and also gym stable mate) the whole cheering for Sanchai was insane! Look i'm a huge Sanchai fan, as i am Rungravee, Anuwat, Duwao etc etc but no matter who the Thai i always support the british fighters i dont understand why anyone wouldnt? If you no them or not isnt the issue at all. Its like i love watching Brazil play football, its sexy football lets be honest, but if they where playing England i wouldnt be cheering for them?? :/ its the same thing for me?! Are you British or not? Same thing happened when Jordan fought Bukaow at the Excel show last year!! Anyway done with now but for me really sad that you cant get behind your own!
Dan that was far and away the best show from you to date mate, really really great fights on the card, Luke and Jo really started things off and got everyone in the crowd pumped up and the rest of the fights didnt dissapoint and kept the crowd eyes wide openj, brilliant mate congrats!! Damien mate your F****** nails as i already no but showed it even more against Rungravee who bongled me right off so im not happy with you for not diving on the floor like me ;) haha. Seriously though mate well done great heart showed! And Liam was just mint, i couldnt contain myself and was diving all over the place but WOW!!! Sanchai won the fight yes indeed, but shit me he knew he was in a fight and last 2 rounds was trying to get to the clinch just to hang on for a breather! What a perormance r kid ;) X
but shit me he knew he was in a fight and last 2 rounds was trying to get to the clinch just to hang on,,,,,
or to floor sling me with amazing throw hes so good with, with his low grip in the clinch....really tried to take it to saenchai this time much more than the 1st fight, didnt want to play around and me and Richard and Jordan had worked on a good game plan in the gym, at times it worked and of course at times it didnt, Saenchai is truely unbelievable and so hard to fight against, from hand eye co-ordination, to speed to power and sharpness he is the ultimate weapon and im happy i gave him a torrid time on saturday...he was in quite a state upstairs after the fight, as was I, so i know i gave him a tough torrid time.....thanks to everyone for the support, it means so much to me that so many people are behind me and wanted me to do well, the number of texts and messages i got was ridiculous so thankyou, especially wanna thank my dad aswell, hes always there for me supporting no matter who i fightor where i fight hes been all over the world to watch me and i really wanted to win this fight for him, but he was proud with how i fought so thats good enough for me....massive thanks to richard once again for gettin me in shape and ready to even compete at this level, you my friend are a legend...cheers to my training partner Jord too, i truely do live the dream training everyday with my best mate when hes fighting at the same level and trying to acheive the same goals as me. and to davy mac amazing padman extradanire, we dont do bad for a set of tramps from LS9 do we boys...onwards and upwards eh,
Firstly, big thank you to Dan and Laura at Fight Sport Industries for trusting me (once again) to present their show.
I absolutely love working on their shows.
They have put a brilliant team together from the photographers whether it be Mike or Pete (or both), to the officials who by the way were superb on Saturday, returning a unanimous decision on every bout that went the distance. Corin & team on production and Jesse and team back stage.
I hope I don't offend any of my other promoters by saying this but Saturday's show at The Dome was the best executed event I have ever worked on.
Got to hand it to Dan who really knows how to put a fight card together.
Stand out performances from the night were:
Kris Addis (marching forward with those long knees, he was clinical against an explosive Leigh Edlin. I can neither confirm nor deny whether I lost some cash on that one, haha)
Luke Greenshields v Joe Hanlon, the BEST B Class bout I've ever seen. Both guys want a re-match...please someone make it happen.
Damien Trainor, I just love Damien more and more with every fight. What a fight it was too...although Rungravee won the fight, going the distance with that little mad man was an achievement in itself. Well done Damien, that performance was outstanding.
Last but by no means least, my favourite fighter...Liam 'The Hitman' Harrison. Like Tony said, Saenchai is perhaps the best Nak Muay of all time and the lad from Leeds gave him HELL. What an exciting fight from start to finish, I was yelling my lungs up at ringside.
After the fight, I had a quick word with Harrison and he said... "After my first fight with him, I thought I could have done more. I gave it everything there but he's just better".
No excuses, injuries or 'get out clauses'...just a World Champion and top bloke admitting that he was beat.
Everyone should be proud of Liam and Damien, they have shown that only the very best of Thailand might still have the beating of us (just)...they are still going to have to dig deep to earn their wins.
The venue, the atmosphere, the audience...everything was brilliant.
Lastly, great to catch up with everyone over the weekend; Dan, Laura, Rob, Darren, Maxine, Tony, Michael, Daz M, Big Pete, Corin, Jesse, Dean S, Chad, Regis, Shaun, Chrissy & Pharnphetch and my 'Enfusion' brothers Vinny & Mickey Blue Eyes. (sorry if I've missed anyone out)
Good to see you Dougie mate... that was one hell of a show ... those who didnt go for whatever reason need to buy the DVD asap... every single fight was top class
Great fights from start to finish. Glad I made the trip to watch this one. Liam Harrison & Damian Trainor did themselves proud in their fights against the thai's.
not my place to say anything on the mater of rungravee vs dean but i dont think dean is ready at the moment, dean is in a very different part of his fight career than andy and damien were when they faught him, dean on experience level is not that much past 10 fights (which is a testement to himself and tony for the quality of his training) dean is still improving well, damien is 70ish fights in and wont be improving much so throw him in with guys like this sink or swim hes not going to get much better howson also has a lot of experience(50+ fights i believe) at that many fight you are surely hitting your full potential or near there anyway. let dean fight a few more guys that he has already been fighting first(good level europeans) then give him some decent thais then give him a high tier thai like rungravee, there is no need for dean to fight him yet he has loads of time left, although i did think of asking tony if he fancied the fight! that is obviously just my opinion.
"hes not going to get much better " i did put a much in their damien, you get my point though early on in your career is where you you improve the most vastly and in reality that is where dean still is fighting experience wise.
I disagree with the "hes not going to get much better" otherwise why bother training once you get to a certain number of fights. Why would most thais train and fight after 100 fights.
Damien, Liam and Andy may as well call it a day now Paulinthailand because according to you they have f*ck all left to learn, Saenchai may as well have called it a day 100+ fights ago.
Improvements with everything can always be made technique, fitness, nutrition, fighters do not fight exactly the same way so each individual will be a new 'experience' and a new learning point. Different coaches have different ideas, different training/work ethics, this again brings or adds new skills.
If that is your thought process that's fair enough, but this doesn't leave you any room to grow at all.
i dont know why your guys from k star feel the need to over protect damien, first off i was speaking to the organ grinder not the monkey on his back! its not like i even said anything bad about him, 70 fights in the uk is equal to 150+ fights worth of fight training in thailand due to fighting less frequently here, in a way i do know what you are saying and i agree that you can always switch things up, after so many years together with damien and mr logan i cant imagine there is much steve can say now or work on now that he hasnt already done before many times over. damien is in the twilight of his career anyway you look at it, will he be learning much more in the next 3 years that he hasnt already learnt in the previous 15+ years, i honestly doubt it, its not an insult its logical, you improve at a faster rate early on in a career and plateau in the later stages with mainly polishing things that you have learnt, no one had may aswel pack in because they are not learning as much, why would they most people train to fight not to learn, if you studied maths for 15 years and were at masters level would you expect to learn as much as you did in your 15th year of studying as you did in your fourth year of study(i doubt you would or could and lets face it muay thai is not as complex as maths, it is known for its easy to use strong technniques, i also know there are very advanced techniques too), also to class liam and damien in the same stage is not right either, liam is 25( i think) right in his prime he regularly trains in thailand and with other coaches with new ideas, does damien(i really dont know), im sick of argueing on here all the time, its getting boring. i actually thought it was a great fight.
just re read that id say liam isnt yet in his prime at 25, i think prime would be 28-30. some great thai coaches said to me that if you train muay thai every day 2 times a day for 4 years you will be as far in muay thai as you can go and have reached you full potential, not that i really listen to them as they say running in the rain makes you sick and ghosts listen to thier conversations but them guys know more than i do!
Its not a need to over protect him Paul, its a need to stop negative comments around him, if you would have posted your response to my post earlier then I would agree in part, it was you who mentioned Liam and Andy, I did the same.
Its comparing apples and pears, all different fighters with different skill sets, and all still looking to improve.
Its disappointing that people dont just applaud his (Damien's) and other peoples achievements instead of just being negative about what they have done or who they have fought for titles.
He flies the flag for UK Muay Thai fighters and he does it bloody well.
He along with many others should be congratulated on their achievements.
Lol Cieran, Paul chill out :-)
Paul some of your comments I agree with others I don't but it's a discussion forum and that's what makes a discussion. There's plenty I do about training like the stuff you've mentioned Paul but I just keep it to myself I'm a quiet lad who enjoys what I do
Thanks for your comments about my fight glad you enjoyed & I did consider getting a tan for that fight as not to redden up so much lol
Paulinthailand .... reading your post again, only one small part of it 'could' be misconstrued as negative towards Damien Trainor, or Howson. However, I don't personally think you meant it like that, which is the problem with interpreting the written word sometimes.
I digress, I wasn't at the DD on Saturday and really feel I've missed out on some great, great action. I can only commend the 3 top lads, Thrashpants,Harrison and Trainor on not only their performances but also the way they carry themselves on here ... with dignity !!
My two-penneth on the 'supporting' debate. I admired Mike Tyson for many a year,in fact, from his early less-known days in boxing, but I wanted Bruno to knock his block off when they fought one another.
I wasn't a big fan of Bruno's in any way, shape or form, I just wanted the heavyweight title brought back to our shores and for our fighter/s to be recognised as world beaters.
I would apply the same ethos to any of our home-grown nak-muays when up against world champion Thais which I fully admire.
Maybe some of the people cheering for Saenchai didn't like Liam? Rather than wanted Saenchai to win because they were fans and admired his skill.
Was Imran Khan in the audience? I could have sworn I saw him. Maybe it was supporters of him that are so desperate to see them fight, so cheered for his opposition.
Regardless, I was cheering for Liam, as I am British and extremely proud of it. Therefore I cheered for the British guy.
I will say though, that it is good for a foreigner to have some support.Gotta be a bad feeling having nobody cheering for you!
Thanks to everyone for their support and help for Saturday's show. It was a great night and I don't think it could have gone smoother. Definitely some of the most exciting fights I've ever seen in the UK.
I think that Liam and Damien proved to everyone that they are pound for pound two of the best fighters in the world. And of course they're not the only British fighters we have that are that level.
dazbrook. imran may well have been there. but dnt think him and liam will be meeting any time soon. i believe imran is now boxing pro. he has his pro debut any day now at donvalley sheffield.
if he said there s not a lot more Saenchai can learn ,is that being negative? Fckin hell he wasnt trying to insult Damien , I understand what he meant , i think I saw damine fighting about 12 years ago and he was already awesome then.
Cheers Hawkman i sometimes forget ive been around so long lol.... can we continue about the event I only saw 2 fights, Greenshields & Liams, what were the others like?
Liam harrison has just pushed the best Thai in last 20 years further than ANYONE can outside thailand and you know being truly honest its the first time i,ve felt real national pride,i know people may think it,s weird but even football was never bothered but last week seeing Damien and him fight like they did was awesome!! it,s the human element that stirs emotions like when Liam,s dad introduced me to his Dad seeing them brimming with pride and support and his tears after seeing his son push him so close and also Damiens girlfriend willing him on with her hands clasped so tightly and Nathan Epps screaming instructions!!!that for me say,s what its about passion to win, lets face it we have seen Sanchai take the piss out of many farangs and thai fighters but he knew he was in a fight and had to do just that, plus Rungrawee whose also shocked by the tenacity of Damien and courage.
I also want to say well done to everyone involved with the show but special mention to Steve logan and Richard smith who have been consistant for at least 10 years producing fighters of great standard, remember though enjoy them while they are around...Dekkers,Bille,Villaume even UK names Ronnie green,Chris Allen, chris mcdonald,Dale,Frankie,Ashley great fighters get chance to watch these now as they are representing our nation also Julie kitchen who is an icon in her own right xxx
What an excellent post from Vinny!!!....I dont really post an awful lot on Ax but feel the need to do it on this thread, Not only have Damien and Liam proved they can mix it with the best fighters in the world and push them to the limits, on a personal level they also regularly take time to chat to my 15 yr old son via the net who is an up and coming junior fighter in the U.K and pass little tips here and there, and generally take time with him...that really goes a long way with young fighters....sometimes i think things like that get missed about these lads, There professional attitude dosn't just stop and start at the ring ropes, it carrys on further than that. They certainly have a lot of future stars in this sport looking up to them I no my lad does!!! They are not the only ones but both Damien and Liam certainly deserve a lot of credit for moving the sport on in this country and getting UK Muay Thai respected around the world...and especially in Thailand!!! They've Definately raised the bar for all who are following in there footsteps!!!
Well said Paul. I also commented as much (but not as eloquently) in a post further up this thread. The guys carry themselves with a great dignity.
If they acted like a couple of cocks, regardless of their talent I would be behind their opponents when the bell rings. Just like Naseem Hamed all those years ago.
As it is, their attitude is one of true professionalism, both inside and outside the ropes. Tough lads, great attitude, a credit to the sport.
Daniels a great lad and I'm always happy to help him out anyway i can. I remember when I was that age and the likes of ronnie green, frankie hudders, Ashley guishard etc etc used to give me the time of day and it ment a great deal to young upcoming fighter so I will always take the time out to do this plus I enjoy talking to people who have a genuine passion for the sport
i always make my lot watch either live or dvds of harrison/watson/dean james etc i think they learn a lot and also makes them hungry as they want to be like them one day!
I have only just seen this, so sorry for bringing it back up.
Paulinthailand, i don't think WHAT you say is that wrong/offensive etc, it's just HOW you say it sometimes.
Thanks for the compliment Vinny, It's very hard sometimes to stay motivated after so many years, but right now I am fully motivated and hungry for success again.
I don't think that Damien will ever stop learning and trying to improve. he wont be learning any new kicks :) but there are lots of other ways to improve. Damien trains all the time and is always interested in learning new things.
I remember sitting down with Damien, Kaish Banger, gav the man, yogendra parekh, jason Richard etc as young lads and trying to motivate and inspire them by showing them videos of dekkers and ronnie Green fighting Thais and I think that it's amazing that Damien is now fighting at that level himself! He is now the inspiration for the next generation of new fighters.
What Damien, Liam, Jordan, Mike Dicks, Andy, Dean, etc are doing is really amazing and bringing the whole sport along.
The new fighters from the top gyms are now better that guys a few years ago that had 10 fights or more, the standard is so much better.
liam Harrison and Damien Trainor are both totally amazing fighters and people.
I have trained with liam a few times and can't explain just how clever he is with his techniques. Interesting when people seem to think he is all power..... which is true he does have a load of it but has so many fine tricks too, this is why he can mix it with the best in world such as Sanchai, saketdo and anuwat just to name a few. Got a great attitude towards his fights and always wants to fight the best win or lose.
Damien Trainor has been around a long time, such a great guy. I'm close friends with Damien and feel i owe alot of my success to him. always giving me advice that will improve my technique and just generally supporting me, giving me tips when i fight people he has previously. We spar on a regular basis, he is still always improving so gotta agree that he is still a fighter in his prime and dont think he has hit his peak yet at all (so we have even more to come), always keen to learn and so hard working when he is in the gym too. Really can say enough kind words about the guy.
these two are inspirational to me and i know many others, well done to both!!!!!
i cant believe how crucified i got on here over something that i didnt/dont feel i was being disrespectful in in the slightest. im argueing against nameless people, i still stand by my original post, i put my name to it, marcfreefight you dont know me in the slightest, how can you call me a cunt and not put your name to it, makes it hollow. not one person on here as put their name down when calling me a cunt. my opinions are worthless to you but atleast i can stand by them, you guys are a bunch of queens. spineless like worms! Howson even agreed with what i said and it was about him and mr trainor, i didnt say he wasnt learning but probably tapering off so many years in.
i would just like to add, that its great to see fighters at the top of their game mixing with the crowd.my 2 sons thought it was great to be able to have a pic taken or get a few words from mr trainor and mr harrison.sometimes people dont realise how much it means to beginers.so thank you very much for making there day.
