Which you prefer - Pride Rules or UFC ?

Just a bit of fun really, but i used to prefer the Pride FC events over the UFC - to me, although the fighters maybe were not as recognised, the rules made the events more exciting.

pride and the early ufc's had tough old bastards which is missing from all modern mma now, they're more athletes now looking for a career and they train to protect their records. in the olden days it was just a ruck. the old was more of a spectacle but today is more of a sport. i think i also prefer the old days for what its worth, even though it was usually ugly

Pride had a lot of skill in their bouts with the exceptions of the 'frak-shows' as they are referred to, but those so called freak shows were what the public wanted to see ! ! !

'Soccer Kicks' and 'stomps' made it as real as allowable.

I agree that today the UFC athletes do train to protect records, etc, and mma as a whole seems to be all starting to look the same. There are obvious exceptions like Bones Jones, Anderson Silva, Machida.

I didn't like Pride rules. Stomping on a man's head is unhumane! As is volleying his head as he lies defenceless. UFC rules are the way forward.

Pride was proper raw and grit, UFC is just about the money(like the yanks)and so much build up to fights that is totally over sell

plus UFC is responsible for all the steroid meat heads that walk around with tap out tops on, pretending to be cage fighters

Gotta agree with the Pride fans. UFC is commercialised to death, however, Pride was too in Japan, but there was just something about the whole set-up that gave it a bit of edginess. The rules, the fighters, were all enjoyable. And the fact it was in a ring i think also added to keeping the action away from pinning up against the cage, like a lot of caged bouts do.

I have to go with Pride myslef.
There seems to be a pattern emerging with the styles now and this takes away from the characters.

As Andrew Kapel said, Pride with elbows is/was the best formula. I used to love watching the old Vale Tudo videos when head butts were allowed as well. Seriously tough fighters.

Pride. The whole thing with the lack of stomps and soccer kicks basically means that as soon as one person hits the deck, the other basically has to follow them and attempt to fight them on the ground, or let them get back up and give away all advantage.

Loved Pride. The events seemed electric.... Though yeah gotta admit those Vale Tudo bouts were pretty tough.

Plus, anything that doesn't have Brock Lesnar in.

ok but everyone agrees that the kicking on head on floor is wrong , yes?

Hawkman: NO!

Why should it be? Just because it is not for group of fighters doesn't mean it's not for another group.

Martial Arts in general are about combat and defeating an attacker/opponent.

The early UFC and Vale Tudo events were designed with this in mind.
Modern MMA is simply a watered down more 'sportier' version of the early UFC's and Vale Tudo.

Why do you think head kicks in the floor is wrong? After all it is a combat sport whereby fighters know, understand, and acknowledge the rules and possible side effects, before they compete. Why should someone dictate what rules a fighter should fight under just because they don't like one particular rule-set themselves?

Pride FC had its place and was a very popular and exciting event. If they did not suffer from the corruption element then it may have continued to be successful. It was obviously a threat to the UFC or they would have never bought Pride for their fighters/fight backlog.
