Went to one of these shows 2 years ago when Kin fought on it.Amazing show, amazing venue, and everyone was really well looked after, really great experience.

The only complaint Id have, and it seems from that footage that it hasnt changed?, that you cant have all the judges on a long table on one side of the ring.

That aside really one of the best shows Iv ever been to venue and hospitality wise, was a great weekend!

michael is from jersey, and thats where he trains, jersey muay thai or something.Hes spent a lot of time training and fighting in Thailand.Hes really good with really nice technique.Id really like to see him fighting in and around the UK more, I think hed be quite keen but I dont think they quite know people on the mainland.Any promotors - hed be a great fighter to have on your shows, and hes a really decent bloke aswell!Think hed actually make a good name for himself if he got to fight on more uk shows.

The name of our gym is Jersey Thai-Boxing Club.
Hi Matt how are you mate?
We have been trying for years to get Michael on Uk shows and its not for the lack of trying or of knowing the right people.
I sent dvd of Michaels fights to the top Promotors in the Uk and never had anything back and we have been running shows in Jersey for 12 years and we have had most of the top gyms over at one stage or another and never had an invite back yet? only promises!
Michael has always been an exceptional talent as can been seen from his early fights before travelling to Thailand but of course the experience of training/competing over there has benenfitted him as does most who goes overseas.
The Club has a strong stable of fighters and have always done very well vs some of the top gyms in the Uk.
We are holding 'Kings of the Ring' on may 26th and we would like to hear from any clubs interested in coming over.
Please contact me at; robmitchelljersey@hotmail.com

Hi rob all good mate.Well thats real shame, when I watched your show 2 years ago you defo had a stable of very keen fighters.I really know michael from thailand so didnt know a lot about his fights and how long hes trained, but he is definately really good and Id love to see him get some exposure, cause he deserves it.You got to be good to fight the likes of Tim thomas, Id love to see the whole fight, the highlights look great.

Best of luck with everything

I guess that maybe an issue with some camps/promoters Matt, but if you look at it this way, it certainly wont cost them anymore than it costs us to get them over here for the 2 or 3 shows we put on every year.

What are Prathet's credentials? Not to belittle your promotion, but one can't help be a bit sceptical on whether he's a top tier Thai if he's from Tiger gym in Phuket. Bangla belts can be bought from vending machines on the island.
matthew goulden
Posted: 2012-04-10 01:24:31
from what Iv heard Tiger muay thai in phuket usually has a variety of top ex fighters teaching there.Prathet isnt a top flight fighter now hes 33/34, but he certainly was in his time.Google him here is some info available.(he was also a pro boxer for around 3-4 years aswell as a nak muay)

He beat frankie hudders and kotsur and dropped wooton lately so hes not gonna be crap.

Competing as a pro Boxer his career record was 14 wins, 2 losses - one of those being Australian Michael Katsidis.

He beat Nuengsiam Kiatwichian, Chernghern, and Chaitate.

Hes obv not in his prime and the 10 times bangla stadium champion hes just been beating up a few in phuket for spending money. He's decent.

im sure Prathet is just as aware as anyone else of the monkey business which is Bangla, but he is very good indeed with his hands, a nice bloke too, there are a handful of thais(probably about 3 or 4) at Tiger who could easily give a lot of A class westerners a good run for their money. Its not just an MMA douchebag/western fatty girl weight loss camp.

meantime ive never been to Jersey either, I would quite like to meet Jim Bergerac, who plays John Nettles in the famous detective show "Stinging Nettles"

Both decisions were unquestionable in both main events. Liam Robinson didn't lose a round. 1 and 2 close, 3rd 4th and 5th were massive rounds for Liam. Panicos and Pranphet was a close fight. Again 1 and 2 close with Panicos edging going into the 3rd. Panicos won the 3rd, Pranphet had a strong 4th round and Panicos dug deep in the 5th to take a big round and claim the decision by 1 point.
matthew goulden
Posted: 2012-05-27 12:51:52
I am obviously biased, but from our corner it looked to me that Prathet edged round 1, utterly lost rounds 2 and 3 but definately won 4 and 5.Close fight, and Panicos is class, but I think the decision was wrong IMO.We think Prathet should have won.

The referee was absolutly hopeless all night, and seemed to have not a clue about muay thai.Incidently the judge nearest our corner was drinking a beer and chatting to people while the fight was going on!!

Mikes a great guy, and I think a good talent. He really lazy for losing weight tho, always leaves it tillast minute then pays for it in the fight. He did 4.5 kg in the sauna for the weigh in and could barely throw a kick after round 3.Good fight tho I thought? And clever use of Muay Thai knowledge by Liam Robinson and corner.Knew exactly what to do for the W.

Id like to see Mike get some oportunities to fight in the rest of UK more.

am sure it will be up soon mate, but in reality is it going to change the decision, i doubt it. No one likes to lose but we just move on, and it makes it easier to do wen you lose against a good fighter such as panicos. No one can judge you for that.

Bison thai - no mate your right obviously the decision wont change thats not the point. There's a few things I couldnt explain on a public forum. In nearly most cases you are absolutly right. No big deal losing really but there are slightly other more complicated personal issues at stake.I hope people can watch the fight and see Prathet as a credible Thai fighter worth fighting and worth having on other big shows!

I would like to thank everyone who travelled over to Jersey for the event,it was a great night!
As the Promoter of the event I would like to respond to several comments made above.
Firstly, the Judges on Prathet's fight were all from UK and WRSA approved. The comment about the judge closest to Prathets corner 'sipping beer and chatting' was not actually judging that fight.
Secondly, the Ref is fully qualified and brought in from Ireland. He has 20 years experience in Muay-thai and 4 years of ref and judging all over Ireland on a regular basis. He has also passed the recognised IMC course under Tony Myers.
Thirdly, as for one persons opinion on Mike's fight with Liam; thats all it is; one persons opinion? Whilst we appreciate everyones comments, this is why we have 3 Judges - it was a split decision? Mike was on the front foot the whole fight, picking and landing shots at will in the opening rounds. Yes he tired in rounds 4/5 but no way did Liam win every round??
Not taking anything away from Liam - he fought a very clever fight and was a very strong opponent, but as all the Judges were informed by Steve Humpreys before the bout - it would be scored on strikes and how effective they were and not throws and sweeps?? Scoreing systems vary from country to country and different federations.
Whatever the outcome this was a great fight to watch and as always with Michael - a great crowd pleaser.

Hoping that we can take a lot of positives from this, just to clear some things up that have been written inaccurately.

The Prathet fight was very close, I am friends with Prathet and I used to help him get fights I introduced him to Parnpetch who I got a lot of seminar work for leading to a full time position. It was some time ago that I helped him get the hudders and kotsur fights. The fight was too close to score as a biased cornerman so I wont give my opinion of it until ive seen the proper DVD.
I was proud of panicos win or lose because he was really bad with chest infection and has a newborn baby so not had much rest or sleep.
Prathet did himself no favours with the first foul in round 5 which was definitely a foul, the 2nd one wasn’t a foul at all but the referee was confused.
Just to point out the referee hasn’t passed any courses by Tony, I am not making a public complaint or attack on any official but just to make it clear he hasn’t passed a course.
Prathet also fouled holding the ropes a fair few times his leg was caught which can throw a fight when its close. I am with Panicos’ performance as he hasn’t had ¼ of the experience of Prathet and we took the fight as a learning experience for Panicos to develop, it was a lower purse than Panicos usually but I thought we could learn and gain so much from fighting Prathet.

I don’t think anyone was judging when not watching the fight, I know there was a fair few people ringside who were not judging as Rob has said.
There was 1 judge who has passed assessment judging the fights.

The rules meeting it was Sandy Holt who explained that the fights would be scored on muaythai criteria on effect and the fight as a whole. I did not hear anyone mention that takedowns would not be scored and I have checked with 6 other people that were present incase I missed it.
It was a good fight, great for the crowd and I would encourange any UK promoters to get Michael over and get him on some of the big shows, I will definitely actively try to promote his name and Jersey Thais fighters over here.
Regardless of the takedowns in the clinch and taking the leg there were a a fair few high scoring techniques delivered that I believe helped the judges come to their decision, some being; off balancing/turning in the clinch and kneeing, kneeing the body in the clinch while Michael kneed the leg, getting Michaels back and kneeing the back from the clinch, avoiding bodykick and kicking the back. Also rounds 4 and 5 loss of position and offbalanced.
I hope this is somewhat constructive and after mine and Panicos’ fights coming up I will cut a HQ copy from the DVD for youtube and post it for everyone to watch and judge.

Thanks to all the guys from Jersey we were well looked after and the venue / show is class puts a lot of the uk ones to shame.

Thanks for your comments Liam,
Alan has defiently attended courses under Tony Myers mate.
As i mentioned to you before the WRSA officials which i had paid to come over declined to Judge the day before(without getting into details) so had to use only ones available as i wanted to avoid all this as new it could be an issue.
Sandy Holt was present when we went through the rules with WRSA president Steve Humpreys and all of the Judges and was made aware of the scoreing system.
So with all this explained and covered i hope now we can move on,it was a great night with some great fights and again would like to thank everyone who came over .

The ref has confirmed the following with regards to his training and experience:

As well as having over 20 years in the game training/competeing and cornerman.

He travelled to Birmingham 09 to attend an ISKA Judges & referee course where due to the amount of fights he had refereed he got an amateur cert for ISKA fights,

The judges and referee course (pro division)
Sunday 11th October 09,
Mack HQ Gym, Adderley Street, Digbeth, Birmingham B9 4ED
Judges and referee course.

Than back in January 2010 he attended a judges & referees course in SitJaipetch Muay Thai gym in Cork, Ireland, a 2 day course with Tony Myers,
He now continues with the Irish Muay Thai judging and refereeing fights through Ireland on a regular basis.

having seen both fights carnt see anything wrong with the ref or judges, think they got both fights correct, liam won easily with takedowns from the clinch and also body kicks,
panicos much closer, but still too far ahead even after rnd 4 for prahtet to catch him, prahtet strong right hand to the body, outscored every time by panicos left body kick

i think some comments were made about the reffing from the earlier fights when people were knocked down almost out then the ref grabbed their arm and pulled them to their feet to wave them off, can be dangerous if uv had a neck kick or something best to wave them off on the floor and let medics look at them incase u do more damage pulling them

Yeah to be honest the comments about the show have become a bit merged. The comments to do with the ref etc were largely to do with earlier fights, when the ref really did seem to not know what he was doing.

Liam R clearly won the fight against Michael Blood. The Prathet/Panicos fight was very close, that I imagine it could be debated over and over.Obviously Panicos made a greater impression on the judges on the night and thats all that counts really.

Liam clearly won fight so to have a 50-45 against him is criminal. Judge scoring that needs to be educated and review fight to explain his outcome alongside senior official.

None of the judges scored 45-50 as have the score cards in front of me now?
I have no idea where anyone got that from? so please enlighten me which judge scored that??
but anyone who is the sole authority on scoring Muay-thai please send me your details so i can just pay for yourself over next time instead of forking out for 3 judges??
Many thanks!
