Topic:K-star Grand Prix, 63.5kg £3k Prize, 30th Sept, B’
Steve Logan
Posted: 2012-03-14 16:19:52
I am very pleased to announce that I will be holding the third ever K-Star Grand Prix – 8 man tournament at the Tower Ballroom in Birmingham on Sunday 30th September.
The first 2 K-Star Grand Prix’s featured fighters from Kung Fu and Karate taking on Muay Thai fighters. The first one was won by Damien Trainor and the Second Chris McDonald and were very successful.
I did try to re launch the K-Star Grand Prix in Nov 10, but I couldn’t get any Karate or Kung Fu fighters to enter, so I cancelled.
This time I have decided to make it a Muay Thai tournament at 63.5kg Max. I have chosen this weight division as I think there are some very exciting fighters at this weight and it will make for an amazing Grand prix.
There will be a total cash prize of £3,000.
So who is interested?
Anyone wanting to enter please email me at stevelogan@btconnect.com

Steve Logan
Posted: 2012-03-15 08:13:48
Shane and tenmust I'm not getting dragged into this shit again. I was accused of having a fake profile before, Dave Jackson looked into it and found that it wasn't me. I have a lot better things to do with my time. I don't need to talk to myself to get interest in this show. It's going to be brilliant without all that shit.
Thanks.

Is Mark Bird the lad who fought on Liam and Andys show? Isn't they two badco fighters with same surname? If it is he had a good style and seemed very confident, ain't seen him fight before.

Pretty sure Luke fights A class and has said many times 63.5 is too big.....
liam badco
Posted: 2012-03-16 05:48:44
Luke can fight from 61.5-65 no problem hes strong enough at 65 to fight anyone...Marks a good upcoming fighter and this is a great chance for him. think he might cause a few upsets

big tourny..but why none of the copestakes brothers in it?or any kstar fighters. Strange. Exp as its your own show.
Ryan Meehan
Posted: 2012-05-17 07:52:19
Lots of birmingham shows never put ther own fighters on ther shows. Why is that?
weazeldeazel
Posted: 2012-05-17 07:58:04
I imagine its because Dave Copestake fights at 67, Carl at 59-61, Epps 69 and the tourny is at 63? Not rocket Science is it.
Trainor
Posted: 2012-05-17 08:12:24
We always showcase our fighters on our events and this will be no different.

Neither of the Copestakes are in the tournament as they are not that weight and at present we don't have a 63.5kg fighter of that calibre to put into it.

The undercard will feature some of the talent we have at present in the gym.

steve logan always has his own fighters on his shows. i have seen kstar fighters fighting all over and at a good standard. i look forward the tournament and have enjoyed all the others. its good to see muay thai moving forwards.
Steve Logan
Posted: 2012-06-02 07:14:56
I only just saw the last few posts.
As everyone has pointed out already, we do not have an active K-Star fighter at that weight. So no K-Star fighters in the Grand Prix.
There will however be at LEAST 5 K-Star fighters on the show, so we will be well represented.
It's looking to be a great show already and we still have nearly 4 months to go!

Just added another great fight to the show.
Lee Coville (Cambridge) V Carl Copestake (K-Star)

This will be a very exciting fight due to the very different styles.

Lee is more experienced and a more Thai style and Copestake has a very energetic, aggressive style.

This is a fight that Carl Copestake has wanted for a long time.

Can't believe all these pullouts in the 8 man Tourny, why do people put themselves forward when they are not 100% committed for it. I'm sure it's a hard enough job just getting undercard fights sorted, but when the show is based around the 8 man it's a little bit annoying. Always seems to happen on tourney's for some reason, I was a previous day replacement on Team TIEU's one. They are a great spectacle for the crowd and usually produce a lot of excitement. There surely must be some guys out there at 63.5 max who want a piece of this, especially those that have been let down on other shows.

Yes - defo hard fight, we always have hard fights, again I will give away experience to my oppenent at Home Ground. ( Last time over 50 fight expericence to M.B)

''getting mark Beale completely caved in?''
Not sure what that means, but Mark is a good fighter and on paper that was just as hard a fight a Karl Joyce (or Lee Coville for Carl)
Mark Beale is far more experienced that Karl Joyce.
You obviously agree that I have given my fighters hard fights as you think that they will both get sparked, so I don't really see what your point is?

Is this a hard fight for Pete or not?

I have a poster on the wall in the gym 'sometimes you win and sometimes you learn!'

So even if Carl and Pete loose, they will both learn something from the fights and get better.

This would have been the 3rd 8 man that Steve had organised, the other two went ahead, unfortunately it looks that some of the fighters that were supposed to be in the tournament have decided to take fights elsewhere next month so probably decided against taking the risk of injury and potential loss of earnings in their next fight :(

Will still be a great show.

Well how long ago was the last tournament then viper? Exactly years ago I think it's silly that promoters don't be fair same at black widow show where dean James was meant to fight and a top Thai was meant to be coming people are sick of being lied to. Like he originally said there's a lot of fighters at 63kg but yet from 8 his down to 4 where's the other fighters since there's so many exciting ones!? Either that or bad planning making an event the same weekend as ringmasters! Which the promotor was likely to have known. I'm not bashing Steve Logan in just making a legitimate point viper.....mma lol
Kru Shaun Boland
Posted: 2012-09-27 05:28:36
I apologise in advance for not addressing you by your name but you have not indicated who you.

However, you did write..... 'typical promoter ploy Birmingham guys are renowned for it dick Turpin extraordinaire!!'

This comment is clearly directed as to your opinion regarding not only Steve Logan as a promoter but also generalising against Birmingham promoters and as you used 'Dick Turpin' as an example, you also are clearly surmising that they are all robbers.

So using the term 'legitimate' as per you saying '....in just making a legitimate point....' makes no sense because if this was your genuine 'legitimate' opinion then it would be justifiable and not in the spurious vein that you write it.

Steve Logan along with many promoters, not all from Birmingham I may add, have to put up with last minute cancellations for a plethora of reasons for which I am sure they could all write a best seller book on the subject. It is a bane to the promoter when, after literally months of planning and advertising, they are subject to pull outs, some genuine but many for very poor reasons. These happen at very short notice (in Yogi's case literally the day before).

I can only surmise that your intention when writing this was not one of a 'legitimate point' but more of one with a poor agenda due to you anonymity and your jocular signing off as '...mma lol'

With regards

SHAUN

That's correct you are right kru Shaun. It's rather frustrating that people pay to see shows and rarely do they live up to the hype I find this happens often I was very excited about this tournament. I feel people should be held accountable for there 'pulling out' why has max pulled out however still fighting on the show though?

You are right Shaun it is one of those things doesn't mean we do not have the right to a opinion on the matter.

Also I used the term lol as mma viper decided to report my post which I didn't think he needed to but as I said. From 8 to 4 thats quite bad for a tournament?

Ahh well as long as hodgers and lieu meet in the final I'm sure te show will be a cracker there is still copestake vs coville. To be excited about.

On another note Copestake doesn't really fair well really he hasnt fought in a while, a bridge too far against such a skilled fighter Like coville who is always in great shape all year round but copestake has the experience to be in there and has beaten some of the best! and Pete Rai Great banger but it takes more ring intellect to fight A-Class and a guard which he has neither! Plus he isnt a Warlord so giving away so much experience may be his undoing unfortunately!

You actually write something positive about this show but still can't help yourself having a sly dig at his brother, there's no need for it, anyone who gets in the ring has my upmost respect. I'm not ashamed to say I would never have the courage to do it. I don't know a lot about Thai Boxing, I can't even pretend to understand the scoring but I enjoy watching it and I look forward to seeing your name on a fight card or you promoting a show Thomas Hill so I can witness a true master class!!!

Carl might not be the 'perfect' Thai boxer. He is now number 1. He deserves recognition for this achievement, and his past accomplishments. Well done Carl

Coville is/was number 1 at that weight I think, so beating the best makes you better then the best, hence number 1? Please correct me if I'm missing something but seems like 2 guys put everything on the line today but that's still not enough when they win?

i think the other 3 above carl would argue tht point adrian.
not that i'm tryin to take away from a great win for carl, whos a crackin guy and a credit to his gym

Rich Ward i think you are missing a trick! you've gotta fight consistently and get results against others in the category beating the number 1 may move you up the rankings however i dont think it makes you jump the queue to top guy, after one fight. Again taking nothing away from Carl he won his bout!

Thiomas hill is marcfreefight? I know Mark well and I dont thin he would do that.
Unfortunatly Lee could not stick to the plan that was worked on in the gym and thats why he lost.

I would have gone with Liam Robbinson to be thomas hill not Marcus.

Well done to all the fighters, some brilliant fights tonight. The standard in the UK is getting better all the time. The standard of the C class fighters on this show was amazing.

This show was a nightmare for me and I was going to cancel the whole show on thursday. I had to make the very difficult decision to scrap the 8 man/4man tournament, that was a very difficult thing to do.

I have had a lot of regular support from a lot of gyms/instructors over the years and I didn't want to let them down, so i went ahead with the show. The show was a financial disaster, but fight wise a great success.

I would like to thank all the gyms that got behind this show and gave their support and a big sorry to the fighters that I had to let down and I hope that they all get fights very soon. Thanks To all the officials for doing a great job and crippler struggling through the traffic to get to us.

I have a brilliant team of helpers who do a great job and make sure that the show runs really smooth. I also have brilliant set of Instructors who do a great job making sure that all the fighters are ready. thanks to you all.

I was very supprised that Thomas Hillsaid what he did even if it was a bit of a swip. thanks.

I am going to make it cheaper for muay Thai fans to come to my shows, so please visit www.muaythaiShows.com for details.

Well done Pete rai and Carl Copestake for not getting sparked and standing up to very good fighters. These tough fights will make you better.

I have to disagree that you are not number one if you beat the number one fighter.

If that was a title fight and Lee was the champion and Carl beat him Carl would be the champion, Same thing here!!

It's crazy to say anything else!

This is also not the case with Dean James, Andy Howson and Damien Trainor for example.

The winner of those fights went to the top, above the fighter they had beaten. No one took into account who else they had fought, how active they had been etc, so why should this be any different??

If Carl isn't number one now after beating the number one, then it's just another example/reason why no one can take our sport seriously and we stay where we are, treading water for the last 20 years.

A very good show. Carl did well not exchanging shots with Lee and used a long range to keep Lee away.
Carl is very skillfull and showed a lot of new tricks in the fight. Lee had no answers to anything Carl did.
This is a very good victory for Carl. I would like to see a rematch fight again next year maybe.

what r u on about Meehan i just read the above info how would i know whos got a better chin and why would i be bothered,do u think ive got the time to create an account to talk about carl copestake? neither brother have ever said or done anything to me, they fought on my show 11 years ago, always polite lads, get some solid facts before throwing accusations around.
I think the rankings are having a revamp anyway so hopefully will reflect this and carl would definitely be above Lee, i did not see the fight but we know the level Lee fights at and has been fighting at so i am sure carl put on an excellent performance.

It's very sad that every thread on ax gets dragged down by trolls shit stirring and slagging people off.

I haven't spoken to Dave about this, but he hardly ever posts on ax, so probably unaware of the wankers that post here and assumed that their opinions carried some weight. He would also be very angry at both he and his brother being insulted and abused.

We all know that Bad Company are the number one gym and deserve all the recognition they get, so please ignore that, Dave was probably very upset and angry about all the insults aimed at him and his brother.

It's also wrong to accuse people of having these fake accounts, very unfair as it's very difficult to prove that it's not you and sometimes shit sticks as they say, so very unfair.

Some of these people are very close to us as they know a lot about us, so probably one of our 'friends' very sad.

I thought this was a great show. Given how it fell apart Steve managed to get 8 cracking fights on. All fights were really well matched. Was really pleased with how my guys did against two tough opponents. Adam Earnshaw has really progressed as a fighter, his body kick was mega strong. Very unfortunate for Scott to of picked up a 2 inch split to his right shin in 1st round, even still was very pleased with his performance against such a strong fighter in Adam. Even more impressive is Scott has only been training for 12 months. Paul Hattiloney has grown as a fighter since his 1st fight in Telford in July, very pleased with his win. Also fantastic judging and reffering on the night too. Pity more people didn't get to serene show.

I agree with Steve Dave was angry that's his brother and people are slagging him fact is he was superb last night not the most conventional Thai boxer but knows what his weapons are and knows to use them to great effect he showed why his a multiple time British champion? So Meehan nobody's. Abusing trouble except you and yes I watched the fight I watched Carl clock up countless points by catching the kick and kneeing repeatedly to great effect! Would like to see Carl fight others in the weight class that's it.

Buzzing for carl but the rankings update is wrong in my opinion. Colville hasn't been active in England in ages and two of the people under carl have beat him convincingly. To jump to 3# but not be above rung or keith but be above me , calder and jose ect makes no logical sense. Are rankings opinion now?

Buzzing for carl but if he's above me and i've beaten him surely we have a score to settle.
I like him, I know colville was a fight he wanted for a long time, and i'm pleased he won.
But i will beat him again. And i'm alot stronger now than when i was 19.
Someone put it on before i fight Doc please

Carl is now number 1, officially as he beat the number 1.

Apparently Rung has retired, so that is why he has been removed. Which is fair enough, i suppose.

The ranking is a good system once it is established and settled down as it creates these exciting situations.

When I was running the WMTO years ago I had a ranking in place and it created some very competetive fights.

Jonno you beat Carl and Jordan Calder beat carl also.

Carl had beaten Mark brown twice before, but Mark was still ranked above Carl.

The last time I looked the rankings had changed the weight divisions slightly, so a weight would need to be set.

Carl fights at 59kg max.

I wont get into weight stuff and I know you made the weight easilly for Brian's tourny, so I know there would be no problems.

But I want to ask you a question Jonno, as Carl is number 1 now, if you fight again and beat Carl, would you want to be number 1?? I bet you would (don't blame you)and thats how we/Carl feel. Carl deserves to be number 1.

I have had a bit of trouble matching Carl, so we have worked on fighting lee for over 2 years and finally got the match.

Now this is why the rankings are good for the sport if done properly. Both yourself and Jordan have shown no interest in fighting Carl again, carl did ask for a rematch with Jordan.

BUT because you had won, there was no reason for you to want the fight again as you had moved on. Also from a fan's point of view, who would be interested in watching the fight again??

BUT things have changed now. Carl has taken a risk, fought a more experienced fighter and won. NOW you and probably some of the others will want to fight Carl, because you want what he has, the number one spot!

Good for you and Carl and also good for the fans, now they will be interested to see if Carl has improved, is he better than you as he is above you or was it a fluke or just Carls style works better against Lee than it did against you? who knows, but all good?

Also I am working on a way for Muay Thai Fans to get discounted tickets to Muay Thai shows at www.MuayThaiShows.com

i wasn't having a go, just to clarify steve. I didn't get carls 3# spot when i beat him.
Surely you have to fight a few of the top ranked 5 fighters?

Anyway i don't want to get on a negative vibe or put a bad twist on carls win.
Very happy for him and i know he has put alot of hard work in.
I have nothing but respect for carl, but i aint going anywere ;)
Dont want to troll ax or moan,
carl pulled of a big win.

59kg. we have a score to settle :).

Big well done on this show KStar... easily could have been pulled but ended up with 8 quality fights... which personally is as many as I like to see on a show... from a Firewalker point of view we had 2 cracking learning contests... Adam show good style and power in his kicks against a tough and determined opponent in Scott... we bit off a little more than we could chew in Aundre's fight with Jason... Jason used his experience and low kicks well to win the contest... Aundre has gained priceless experience to move forward with in only his 4th fight... I believe having just turned 24 and developing all the time Aundre will be the future of heavyweights in the UK... special mention to Tops who performed at short notice with great spirit and won the respect of everyone in the audience....

Thanks Joby, always good to have you guys on the show, Same to you Kev, thanks to gyms like you for supporting the shows.
The standard of fighters is getting better and better all the time.

Jonno, I know you wasn't having a go, and I think that the best thing about having rankings is so that fighters can set goals for themselfs and makes every fight meaningfull if it means a win will move you up the rankings.

When you beat Carl, you should have gone above him. The rankings are being updated more regularly now, so hopefully things like that will be less common.

Things like that are what I feel hold the sport back more than anything. People are always saying we need someone with loads of money and someone to get us on TV etc. That would be nice and would help but I think its all the stuff that makes no logical sense that holds us back the most. People /fans can not get 'involved' when we have stuff like that happening.

Fighters beat someone and they are still below that person, 2 fighters fight each other, one wins by KO. 2 months later the fighter that lost and got KO'd fights for a title!! Etc etc thats the crazy shit that holds us back and disheartens fighters.

One day ...
