Judging course and assessment August 19th

There has been a lot of interest and demand for a judging course so I have just organised one with Tony Myers for Sunday August 8th here in St. Ives Cambridgeshire.

The course is not just for those of you who want to become judges but equally it is for those who want to have an understanding of the scoring criteria in Muay Thai.

For the fighter - Knowing how to score correctly will help you develop a better strategy for winning.

For the instructor/coach - Knowing how to score correctly will help you in training your fighters in correct technique and strategy.

For the fan - Knowing how to score correctly will increase your understanding and enjoyment of the sport.

The course cost is £20 which includes your assessment fee and certificate upon completion.

I will be holding this course at the St. Ives boxing club (details of how to get there will be added nearer the time).

The course will run from 12pm-4pm (times may be revised nearer the date).

To book please e-mail me on shaun.muaythai@gmail.com and I will add you to the list.

The date is August 19th as per thread title not August 8th, apologies

We have now started to get bookings for the above course.

Slight amendment and my apologies in advance for putting up the wrong pricing;

The course is £20 and if you want to sit the Judging exam the assessment fee is £5.

So total is £25 if you want to qualify. £20 if you want to learn about scoring and judging.

Assessment is Judging & scoring 10 fights on video

Whats the point?
Apparently you can write what you want at the end of each round and then change your mind at the end.
48 can equal 50...
Or do you plan to cover ethics as well???
Not a dig at you Shaun..
Kru Shaun Boland
Posted: 2012-07-23 07:19:27
No dig received, you know I am above all that anyhow.
There is a point; it is to facilitate the development of the art of Muay Thai.

It strives to do this by:

1. Monitoring, interpreting and applying the rules of Muay Thai consistently, fairly and in keeping with the spirit of the sport.

2. Supporting the training, assessment and welfare of Muay Thai officials.

3. Supplying quality Muay Thai officials to promoters and organisations.

4. Educating all stakeholders (including fighters, coaches, promoters and spectators) on the rules of Muay Thai and their application.

Training and assessment is of prime importance to ensure that their is fair and consistent scoring.

I hope that alleviates your concerns

I'd be happy to offer my venue in crewe if you were thinking of holding any courses up here. Were ideally situated centrally and within an hour's drive of Liverpool, Manchester Birmingham Preston and derby but also just minutes from mainline railway with direct connections to London and Scotland.

A ODE TO SHAUN IN ST: IVES ! :-)

As i was walking in st: Ives
A woman stopped me for some Pies
i said i was from Bolton & not wigan
ive heard down here they make a Big Un !
And then i saw a man called Shaun
i swear he was stood 10 foot tall !
i said i was from sunny Bolton by the sea,
he questioned my theory and threw a Knee !
i blocked it with some good luck,
but then some Boxing did he chuck !
I kicked him back low middle and high,
But his elbows hit hard and made me cry !
i decided its time for the secret weapon to fire,
But shaun hit back,he wasnt going to Tire !
i made a clinch and grabbed his Neck.
He clinched me back, i said "BY ECK"
By this time we had a crowd
The St: ivian people got quite loud!
by now i was 3 rounds down,
so i checked the scorecards with a frown !
I had my stamina & My Bolton Grit,
I dug deep, went faster & scored some Hits!
Up he got, but then i threw a Teep,
Down went the Giant from st: ives in a Heap !
4 rounds in, the fights been scoring,
Whose winning now? its not Boring !
the bell sounds for the 5th: and final Round,
both of us stay on our feet, no Ground & pound !
The cards are in and whose got the Win?
was it the Ginger Bread from Bolton man,
or the st: ivian giant with 3 rounds in the can !
the scores are in, the truth be declared,
Was it Red or Blue or a Draw shared?
the Answer to this Ryme and Ditty?
is come to the course and help the kitty !
the outcome will be those whom take this,
you wont find out if this course you Miss !
remember that Knowledge is Power to enhance,
Go to st: ives Seminar take the Chance !
Good luck to Shaun and all the Team,
One World one Muay Thai,Live The Dream !

What if someone only wanted to referee? Would they still have to take the judges course?
Kru Shaun Boland
Posted: 2012-07-29 18:59:31
Rob: I am sure we will be able to do something in due course

Joe: you would need to do the referee course to be a referee. The Judges course is if you want to be a judge

Nice one Shaun, thanks.

Hope it's October, will be away for 2 weeks in sept ;-)

To be honest with you, I think a ref's course/assessment is long overdue. Thanks to Tony's judging courses we now have a good number of qualified, knowledgeable judges. However, good referee's are quite thin on the ground still. We really need more quality ref's like yourself, Daz Phillips, Jesse Saunders etc.

A course/assessment, followed by tiered on the job training and continued assessment is definitely needed. Just my opinion.

Cheers

Great news about the referee course.

Not just to produce new quality referees, but also to update existing refs as to changes in rules and refresh their memories on existing ones.

Also it will be good to discus different scenarios and the best options to deal with those scenarios, especially the weird and wonderful scenarios that happen very rarely and are not the norm..

With my referee course years ago, we spent the day with Tony, first going through all the rules, regulations etc, then talking scenarios, then we spent the afternoon in the ring doing practical training, footwork, positioning, timing, breaking the clinch techniques etc , it was a very informative day, and fun to.

I will defiantly be attending this course, i have been waiting for a refs only course to come up for ages, great initiative IBMTO.
