ramon dekkers ,what a fighter !!! on 18 march 2001 , he was fighting for the last time, after a great career.i will never forget him,his fighting skills, his lowkicks, his elbows, his knees, his fighting spirit !! this is my ode to the greatest dutch fighter on muay thai rules. RAMON,,THE DIAMOND,,DEKKERS
Awsome - notice how much his hips are turned into his kicks.
Great shots Dirk,he was a great fighter.Has he offically retired?and if so is he teaching ?
yes,he's retired. i don't know what he's doing now,but he's a member of the golden glory team and his trainer cor hemmers is the trainer now of the golden glory team,so maybe he's teaching now,i hope so.there are some rumours that he's gonna do a fight in mixed martial arts.
ttt for dirk ...nice work
If Dekkers fights MMA-No Rules he's going to get his face bashed up.
Although looking at him you wouldn't be able to tell the
difference
nice photos dirk.
ive only seen a handful of dekker's fights. what do you guys reckon were
his most memorable fights?
man, too many to mention
Saengtien-noi 1-3
Coban 1-4
Ballantine 1-3
Sakmongkol
Namphon 1-2
Cherry 1-2
Prestia 1-2
Den Muangsurin 1-3
Dida Diafat 1-2
Orono
Dany Bille
Hector Pena
Taro Minato
John Bingsedor
the list is huge. He was pretty damn exciting.
Althugh I don't get Ernesto Prousts comments. What is your point? Do you feel he would take more damage in MMA than in Muaythai?
Dirk,
awesome pics, BTW.
thank you !!!! bryan.
today is again ,,too hot to handle,, in rotterdam !!! one year without ramon dekkers !! here are some pictures of his last fight with marino deflorin on 18 march 2001.
thanks for the info, bryan. by the numbers do you mean how many times
they fought?
awesome pics Dirk...yeah, talk about turning the hip into those kicks! ..that Simpson vs Dekker double KO fight was wicked.
where is Ramon based now? does he train people?
David,
Yes, the number were how many times they fought.
Dirk,
Who is the unfortunate fighter being helped out by the referee, doctor, etc. in photo 16?
Thanks,
Bryan
Top Photo!s Dirk,
I had the honor & pleasure of watching Ramond Dekker fight in Holland when Rob Kaman fought as well the Dutch vs the Thais in 1990 from memory Rob Kaman KO his opponent and Ramon Dekker won his fight it was beamed over to Thailand.
I wish I had have gone down to Melbourne when the late Dana Goodson
promoted him in the mid nineties...
My favourite fight is when he fought Gilbert Balletine from Chakuriki gym
they were great battles those two when they fought each other..great thread........
Regards
Lucy Tui
I saw Dekker fight with Kaman and two other in Holland vs Thailand, but I don't think it's what Lucy Tui is talking about, as all the Dutch lost. Nonetheless he beat and was also beaten by some of the best Thais. He was incredible and the Thai's love him. Not just for his skill but for having the balls to fight for less than normal in humid and polluted Bangkok.
Great pictures Dirk thanks for posting them...

I like the one of Ramon kicking Coban and Coban doesn't blink he's just looking right in Coban eyes cool shot did you take that one Dirk???

Hi Dirk,
I didn't end up seeing Ramon in France, he said that he would try and go but guess he never got there. His email address doesn't work any more either. I guess he got sick of me writing to him.
If you have more please put them up, can never get enough of Dekker!
JWP
your welcome,jwp
here are some pictures of your idol.
we all can't not forget him.
greetings dirk.
Anyone have any goof facial pics of Ramon when he first started before he got his face totally bashed in from all his fights? I would like to see what he looked like before.
hi muay thai guy,
here are some very old pictures of ramon.
this one is after his fight for the dutch title with ramkisoen,he won that fight in the second round on k.o !!
I've been to the Maeng Ho gym in Breda Holland a few times and was fortunate enough to have trained along Ramon and Michael Liewafat many years ago. This photo was taken in the Sportshall Zuid in Rotterdam I think it is as Ramon came out for his fight against a Morrocan fighter whose name I can't remember. he won by 3rd round KO.
ramon dekkers his second b-class fight was in france against richard nam,at that time a famous fighter in europe,he lost on points, but on 27 februari 1988 he had his revanche and k.o richard nam in the 4th round.
here are some pictures of the battle !!!

Had to bring this back to the top..........Awesome thread. Ramon was the guy that really got me into Muay Thai as a teen ager. I remember getting a tape of his fight with Coban in Lumpinee..the 2nd. I had no idea who either man was but I was captivated. Started collecting everything I could about the guy. Was lucky enough to get to know him and train in Breda and hang out here in the states too.
I like those pics of Ramon against the Deadly Kisser. What a war that was. Dekkers is the stuff. He was so exciting. Great thread.
Awesome job Dirk,Ramon is most definitely the man!

LOL.
Met Superlek sornisaarn recently in Ubon who beat Dekker in an absolute war in Lumpini,Dekker puty Superlek down in 1st with high roundkick but ended up getting a count himself.Superlek told me he couldn't eat solid food properly for about 3 weeks after the fight!!!
was watching some dekker fights today . Thought of this thread. Nok Soo Kow !
The greatest fighter in the World when he was fit.I got to see Ramon in Melbourne when he fought New Zealand based thai Jombing Chaiwakool. He had an easy day at the office then, mind you Jombing is no bum.Ramons array of weapons that night was awesome,I was doing Jombings corner and in the second round he looked like his left rib had been attacked with a baseball bat.Jombing was over awed by him non the less he did his best.Deckers combos were awesome,he is pound for pound the best in the world......Thanks for the memories CHAMP.....

We can't have a Ramon Dekkers topic without having some video footage of the man in action. Stills just don't seem to capture just how vicious and powerful a fighter he was.

too bad a guy like Dekker when and got tapped out in minutes. What was he thinking making a come back in MMA. Sudo is no joke!!
He was thinking........Ok so I get a big fat check and I can just tap out if I get in trouble? Hell yeah! Ramon has been helping train fighters for MMA with Golden Glory, he did not just wander blind into an MMA bout. Of course getting Sudo for your first bout is a stiff challenge. But Ramon had to sell his soul for that kind of money in his day and now he walks out of the ring without a scratch. He would be silly not to get paid and his legacy is hat gets him that payday.
Right on Eric, very smart move on his part. Lucky for him he didn't go by opinions of the folks that couldn't look further then that!
If you fight for $$$ only I can see your point. I'd fight dekker for a buck to.
I guess when you're a Dekker nut hugger you can't see past the scare tissue.
Go over into the MMa forums and find out how much of an ass Dekker made him self to be.
Very weak carrer move.
I am for sure a Dekker Nut Hugger! I can see past the scar tissue and I see a man who already had his career, a grown man that already accomplished more than any other foreign fighter in Muay Thai. His legacy is sealed. Now after some time off he decided he missed the rush of being in front of a crowd. His scar tissue was never a factor with Sudo. I think he knew that. The purses today in Japan are som much more than what he got for fighting the best Thais in Thailand over and over. So hell, I think if he wants to do it, he deserves to be able to use his name and get a big check.
Duval.
Im pretty sure if Sudo was to fight Dekkers at Dekkers game,(full thai rules)then the muay thai message boards would be talking about what an ass Sudo made of himself.
Each to their own. Dekkers did it for the money simple as.
Sudo would get is ass handed over fast if he fought Dekker full MT.
But i guess it s impossible to have a general discussion over mt and mma without it getting out of hand.
Im a fan of dekker to, altought I traine mma i do enjoy MT and have spent some time in thailand. so its not like I dont shit about the sport.
No one ever questioned what you do or do not know about the sport. But knowing the sport and having spent time in Thailand you surely know the career of Ramon Dekkers has been over for real for several years and his best days were in the 1990s. So winning or losing to Sudo makes no impact on anythung other than his bank account.
Ramon Dekkers is the best farlung in MT.
No one comes even close.
No one can question that.
Can someone please clairfy; is it Dekkers, or Dekker?
Its Dekkers but the Thais used to call him Dekker so you will see that on his shorts sometimes.
im a dekker nut hugger he he,i even had a whole dekkers dekker thread once............ah im proud of it he inspired me to throw my first kick cheers ramon, dont recon ramon would come back to loose for monet though would have thought he had too much pride.
Is it just me, or does that poster at the very top of this thread look awfully gay?
I mean with all those guys stood there in their jeans with no shirts on and that. If they were all wearing Thai Boxing shorts it wouldn't seem so bad.
Duval writes:"Go over into the MMa forums and find out how much of an ass Dekker made him self to be"
Yeah, like MMA forums mean anything to us Thaiboxers, maybe if we were MMA nut huggers...
Thanks Dirk, awesome and interesting post.

I've been lucky enough to train with Ramon Dekkers on three of his visits to England and he is my favourite all time fighter and a true legend!
Photo's are not uploading for some reason
Any one know how many Uk fighters Boxed Ramon D? and their names?.
I know there was Thomas McCarthy & Kevin Morris I've got their fights on video and I also read an article in 'COMBAT' magazine that Paul Hamilton also fought Ramon Dekkers twice although I've never seen it elswhere that would have been good to watch as Paul was an excellent Thai fighter and Dekker was in his prime then.I used to collect a lot of rare fights back then and some of them include his battles with Dida,Cobal [Held in Paris] and a great demonstration of Ramon Dekker at his most devastating was the fight with Hector Pena who was knocking everyone out and was brilliant himself but in this fight held in Japan Dekker just smashed Pena's legs to bits and was awsome!
Thanks Phil,I seen Ramons fight with Thomas Mcarthy(who i boxed twice) but no other english fighters.
