TOKYO, Japan (July 23, 2012) –The world’s best heavyweights are set to return to Tokyo at last.

GLORY Sports International (GSI) today announced "GLORY Grand Slam – Heavyweight", which will take place in the Japanese capital this December.

The event will feature GLORY's top fighters battling in a new and exciting format and promises the Japanese fans something they have been missing for a long time - a truly world-class kickboxing event featuring the sport's most decorated superstars.

Additional details concerning "GLORY Grand Slam - Heavyweight" - including the date and venue plus invited fighters and match-ups - will be announced soon.

The event is being staged with the assistance of local partners G-Entertainment, a brand new agency focused on fighting sports, formed by some of the most experienced people in Japan’s fight event production industry.

"This is a very exciting time for us. Bringing GLORY to the home of the martial arts, and taking our top fighters who are idolised by the Japanese fans, is a crucial moment for us", commented Marcus Luer, Managing Director of GSI.

GLORY recently announced their "GLORY Grand Slam" event, which is their heavyweight tournament consisting of 16 of some of the world's top heavyweights.

Today they announced most of the competitors in the heavyweight tournament, 13 of them to be exact. The fighters announced for the tournament so are are as follows:

TOKYO, Japan (Aug. 7, 2012) –Glory Sports International, the parent company of world championship kickboxing league GLORY World Series, has today revealed the names of the first 13 fighters who have accepted an invitation to compete in the 'GLORY Grand Slam – Heavyweight,' 16-man, one-night, single-elimination tournament event in Tokyo, Japan in December.

World No.1 ranked heavyweight Semmy Schilt of The Netherlands tops the list and is joined by legendary icons Remy Bonjasky of Suriname, Peter Aerts of The Netherlands and Jerome LeBanner of France as well as decorated champions Errol Zimmerman of Curacao, Gokhan Saki of Turkey, Sergei Kharitonov of Russia and rising stars Filip Verlinden of Belgium, Ismael Londt of The Netherlands and Suriname, Braddock Silva of Brazil, Brice Guidon of France, Jamal Ben Saddik of Morocco and Igor Jurkovic of Croatia.

The nearly complete tournament field marks an unprecedented assembly of the world’s most outstanding kickboxing talent. The three fighters who will fill the remaining spots in the tournament draw will be announced soon, with Japanese fighters expected in the line-up.

The December date and Tokyo venue for the event will also be announced soon.

Only fighters in the upper echelon of the stand-up fighting world were invited and their names underline GLORY’s position as the world’s No. 1 kickboxing league. Never in the history of the sport has there been such a convention of top-ranked fighters in a single night.

The Grand Slam event will debut a new tournament format devised by Hemmers. The sixteen fighters will battle it out over four stages in one night to determine an overall winner.

glad that Filip Verlinden is in this, he looked awesome in his fight with Ilunga at the showtime event. Should raise his stock a bit being in a tournament with the big-name fighters

badr hari's on remand..apparently it serious as they usually only remand for 90 days max when they have a strong case...looks like he'll be in a wee while

Wasn't aware of the rules thought it was pretty much the same as k1. Those few small differences gonna stand the bad co boys on better ground. Would have loved to be in uk for this bad boy. All the best uk fighters xo

ooooh...any links to the case?
always thought he was a bit naughty

meantime i thought a lot of those guys were retired last time i looked! Though Bonjasky had terrible eye problems, Aerts retiremenet fight was against Sapp? JLB has taken way too many shots over the years and i am sure that Schilt retired from k 1 years before it finished?
