Polite question - Have the IFMA altered its format from bodyshields to coloured vests?

This still looks good, as in my opinion colour coordination is so important for the amateur code, but this could hold back International Olympic Commision approval.

Just as Amateur Boxing using headguards - has set the I.O.C. safety standard required blows to the head.

TaeKwonDo using bodyshields - has set the I.O.C. safety standard required for kicking blows to the body.

Any information appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Neil, A class wear vests- no body sheild for the championships B class wear body sheild, everybody wears AIBA approved equipment inc headguard and gloves, plus shinnies and elbow pads.

the equipment used is approved by AIBA and also a major sponsor in Thailand.

I nthink the olypic format put forward differs in the bodyshield requirements although i am not 100% as Sport Accord saw a mixture of both

Hi Lee,

Interesting to hear that IFMA now have two formats.

I understood that they were moving towards 'open scoring' ( electronic scoreboards - clicker style acculmative scoring ) too, again for IOC approval.

10 pt must system works better if not using the full amateur armour, (ie including bodyshield).

Do you know which scoring criteria they are using for the bouts without bodyshields?

Purely out of interest, and to keep up to speed with the Amateur code.

hi neil, the full scoring criteria are on ifma website, electronic scoring has been muted and discussed at a high level and i know the amateur scoring has always differed from pro, well at least since the mid 90's and iamtf when i did my 1st amateur judging course.

as for the scoring criteria for the a class fighters its the same as for the b class, pretty much 10 pt must however work rate and skill are favoured more than in pro stadium scoring and its over 4x2 min rds.

back to topic- well done to the irish team will see you guys later in the year
