Next year will see Showdown Events promote first of its 8 man tournaments, with the prize money of £10,000 Surely we will see all the best 66-67kg fighters out there to battle it out to take the number one spot.

The right 8 men could mean every fight a war, who would we like to see in the competition????????
Shafique
Posted: 2013-11-29 17:33:00
First Place to be taken is

Greg Wootton from the KO Gym Greg is arguably one of the best fighters in the UK at the moment, fighting Liam Harrison for the number one spot in June.

He will be tough to beat in the competition

67kg is a bit above his normal fight weight. I can see 10,000 reasons why he'd want to step up in weight for this but will he be as dominant at the higher weight? It'll definitely be interesting to see who else will be in this. An exciting prospect.

Second Place to be confirmed

Imran khan , Imran has been out of the ring for a while after coming off a win over Josh Palmer he has stated he will be in the best shape of his life for this tournament

Imran v Greg would be worth the ticket money alone surely

Always a well run show with good match-ups the Showdown Events. Went last time and there were some cracking fights. Will be sure to be going again this time. Is there a dvd of the last show as wouldn't mind watching some of those fights again?

sagat1977
Posted: 2013-12-01 15:28:20
I was training out at super pro samui when Reece was out there and this kid is a class act. A very nice and down to earth guy with a very bright future. I believe he's been quite active in thailand as well as his stints ink1 and Glory. Haven't Reece and Tim met before? Am I right in thinking Reece won a decision?

Who else has met before in this 8 man? I know tournaments are always very different to a single fight but it'd be interesting to know.

Has Greg ever fought at this weight before? I think he's one of the UKs best p4p but here he would be fighting the UK's best at 2 weight classes above his normal weight. That's a big ask! I'm a massive fan of his and would pay the ticket money to see him take on that any of the above mentioned fighters.

You can never rule out someone with TNT knockout power and that may suit a tournament style. Tim has to be one of the favourites.

Who has David Tieu fought at this weight? Whats his record? I know of Carlton Leiu and Mathew Tieu but I haven't seen David fight. He's definitely from an excellent camp and training in good company.

Imran Khan is another legend. In fact - this looks to be an amaizing line up!! When and where is this taking place, I'll have to make sure I can go?

If this stays together it will be the best possible 8-man we could ask for! Talking to Hussain today theres already a buzz about it. be interesting to see how Wootton gets on with the bigger lads. Think we'll get a decent idea of that when he fights Liam in June. Khan has all the experience in the world, 1 shot from Thomas can KO anybody, Stanton making huge noise in the division at the moment and rising stars Tieu and Sewell could well cause upsets. Throw Mccallister and Tommy in the mix and this could be an amazing show! Cant wait!

Grandprix '8 Man' Tournaments are great for spectators, but can be a lot harder for promoters than a regular show, both financially and also with matchmaking ( keeping the tournament intact with 10 participating fighters). Many promoters avoid them for this very reason, full credit to the organiser.

This one looks set to be a cracking event.

Best wishes to all involved!

This show will be MASSIVE if these fights take place and even if some fighters do pull out due to injury, etc I'm sure Showdown will still deliver the goods as these shows have grown in strength each year giving the public some top fights!!!

I agree with edwards paulie, come septemeber the line up will be different, I hope I'm wrong

I'm sure there was a similar tornament planned last year with TNT stanton and poss imran in it and all had to pull out.

Maybe it would've been better to keep it under wraps until closer the time not announce it 10 months early........

If it does happen my moneys on Brad or Imran

An exciting fighter that can upset anyone on his day!

Interesting to see if Wooton can compete at the higher weight, dont know him personally so would be interested to hear his walk around weight? Harrison is a massive test so if he did beat him, surely hed be the "favourite" for this?

I still think Thomas has something left in the tank, McCormack back in the mix, has tournament experience, but i like Stanton for this, his style especially the beast clinch could mean he limits the damage he takes through the rounds?

Snowplastlondon i totally agree the kid is evil, he never has acheived what he could i seen him when he was 15 at an interclub smashing full grown men with ease, i was sure he would be a higher profile name now than he is. him or brad stanton to win it. i think brad may already have a win over sam tbf. tournaments who knows
Superpetch Muay Thai Academy
Posted: 2014-07-08 09:38:34
Sam has been competing at 63.5kg but does has a dig on him way above his weight, he dropped soloman giving away weight and will be fit and durable as wont have to cut weight to make 66kg. I think Brad did beat Sam quite convincingly before but i wasnt there and the tournament format suits him even when you hit him you seem to injure yourself i dont know what he is made of lol.
66kg MAX is a good weight for this.

Some huge names still left in this tournament. Really hope it does end up as eight fighters in the draw not 7,stupid when one fighter gets a free round because another fighter pulls out. if that happens it should be cut to a four man not carry on with it when theres not enough fighters for the first draw.
Hussain Shafique
Posted: 2014-08-26 05:40:06
This will be a 8 man tournament as advertised!!

Latest 8 man line up

Brad Stanton
Imran Khan
Tim Thomas
Thomas Mccormick
Ben Lucas
Andrew Loftshouse
Luca Donadio (Italy) Over 100 fight experience)
Nelson Gomez ( Portugal) Portugese Champion

Looks like you have struggled with pull-outs on this, still got some really strong lads in there though, winner has to come from Stanton, Thomas or McCormack for me though. I would say Lofthouse on paper, as he had a good tourney on Last man standing a while ago but he's gonna be small compared to say, Stanton who's a beast!

Not heard of the Italian and the portugese though both are usually tough and durable, anymore info on them?

Must be mental doing an eight man, all the best with it. Octagon is easily one of my favourite venues to

Lofthouse must be totally insane his last fight was at 60kg fair play to him for jumping in.
Luke Turner
Posted: 2014-09-02 03:26:55
Lofty is fookin mental! some HUGE guys in this compared to him. Elbows can stop a fight in a second though and hes great with his so could be some upsets on the cards !

This 8 man's going to be crazy on Sunday everyone will be hyped up for this!...I'll be interested in those first fight draws as they can change the outcome and who makes the final I wouldn't rule out anyone winning this type of tournament!

10k total prize fund, was decent money for the lads really, £800 for losing semi finalists is pretty good for one of these tournaments.

Lucas bt Khan
Stanton, Lofthouse & McCormick bt the foreign lads

Stanton bt Lofthouse (couldn't continue after 1st round, think it might have been his arm. Stanton looked to strong for him anyway)

McCormick bt Lucas (stoppage low kicks)

Stanton bt McCormick (quality, looked to me for the 1st round and a half McCormick was ahead with his slippery style but Stanton is special and got through to him)
