Repost: Buakaw Strength & Conditioning Training

Here’s an interesting video of former Omnoi Stadium champion and two-time K-1 World MAX champion, Buakaw using landmine or coreplate exercises in his strength and conditioning programme prescribed by the Faculty of Sports Science at Kasetsart University. The movements selected are very sport specific, indicating they are toward the end of a meso cycle or block of training, close to a fight.

wasn't this when he was back at por Pramuk and they sacked his conditioning trainer and then he got fckd off after this.
remember watching it and thinking very scientific and functional considering its in Thailand.

similar to some of the stuff that Tyrone Spong's conditioning trainer was doing with him

You may well be right Hawkman - I'm not sure of those details...

Yes, this kind of professional strength and conditioning approach is very unusual for Thailand! ;)

'Sport specific' exercises grab a Thai boxer's attention, but their use must be kept in context. It's important to train from general to specific over a programme.

The specific stuff may look more 'sexy' but if used for extended periods they become less effective (due to accommodation) and result in overuse injuries.

After some digging, it appears that Asst. Prof. Dr. Ratree Ruengthai (Dean, Faculty of Sport Science, Kasetsart University)and Staff did visit Por.Pramuk gym in 2011. This video may well have been during that time - does look like Por. Pramuk gym in the background.

I've amended the blog post title, thank you. :)

Buakaw should get out of Thailand he would make more as a kicking coach in the states in a year than in a lifetime in Thailand fighting
