Few Results from the DUEL Event - March 21st, Newcastle.

S/HEAVYWEIGHT 4-MAN TOURNAMENT

Semi-Final #1:
James Cannon vs Paul Venis
winner: VENIS, KO Rd.1

Semi-Final #2:
Lukasz Parobiec vs Darren Moffitt
winner: PAROBIC, KO Rd.2

Tournament Reserve Bout:
kapelly Almeide (KO, Portugal) vs Callum 'Ready-Steady'Cook (TFT Sunderland).
Both slugged it out through the early stages with Kapelly finishing it with a head kick to secure the KO over the clearly tired Cook.
winner: ALMEIDA, KO Rd.3

FINAL
Paul Venis vs Lukasz Parobiec
winner: VENIS, KO Rd.1

The lightest man in the Tournament, Middlesbrough's hard-hitting Paul Venis, Impact Gym (Coach Alan Chapman), blew away both opponents with his power. Venis now secures his slot on the SFS Event later in the year.

INTERNATIONAL BOUT:
Connor Long (Blyth, UK) vs Fred Cordeiro (KO, Portugal)
winner: CORDEIRO, KO Rd.2

The pocket-rocket that is Cordeiro returned to England after his demolition of Andy Hughes in the the first round, to repeat the action in the second round in this anticipated fight. You could hear a penny drop when the over-hand right landed.

Next stop for Cordeiro: WKL European Title vs TBA.

72kg Andrei Ostravanu (Romania) vs Filipe Veiga (Portugal)
Good fight with both going at it in the first. Clearly the skill level was raised in this bout. Ostravanu then began to assert himself dropping the brave Portuguese two times.
Winenr: OSTRAVANU Rd.

72kg Alex Beattie (Liverpool) vs Rayko Levitichi (Southend)
Another good fight with both lads giving it their all. An early knockdown in Rd.1 by Levitchi but the referee didn't count it. Levitichi landing the heavier of shots of the two which was a deciding factor. Good, close fight.
winner: LEVITCHI, Unanimous Decision.

The event was originally supposed to have a second tournament on in the 72kg division, however, due to injuries sustanied by Mike Egan and Raymond Sterling in their previous bouts, both had to withdraw. The remaining bouts were re-shuffled and made into two individual bouts.

Paul Venis vs James Cannon.

Venis, the unknown Heavyweight from Middlesbrough came into the fight with a 23-0 record, all knockouts, in a mix of unlicensed boxing, full contact and K-1 rules. Not the most skilful but uses his noxing & power to great effect.

One 57/58kg European fighter to watch out for; Portuguese 19 year-old Fred Cordeiro.

His first visit to DUEL he beat UKMF No.4 and Independent UK Kickboxing No.2 ranked, Andy Hughes, with a spinning kick knockdown, followed by a jumping knee KO. The second time Cordeiro came back, this time he beats Northumberland's prospect Connor Long by KO.

Worthy of a mention on the show was last-minute stand-in, Reyko Levitchi, from Horia Radulescu's gym, who stood in due to no-show David Stone (avoid this fighter at all costs).

Portuguese fighter Filipe Veiga stepped up a little too far in class when he took on the experienced Andrei Ostravanu.

Great performace by Ostravanu, and Veiga suffered a broken nose in round 2, which hampered him a lot.

The Heavyweight Tournament Final saw Paul Venis take on the hard-hitting, experienced MMA fighter from Poland, Lukasz Parobiec, who overcame Cage Combat K-1 champion Darren Moffitt in the first leg.

Another early stoppage for Venis who now goes on to compete on the SFS event in London, and also has an ICO European title clash booked in July against ELMIN ZIVCIC. If he wins the ICO title it could lead to an exciting clash back in Newcastle for Venis against Micky Terrill, who will jump up two divisions to seek revenge for beating his protege, James Cannon.
