Dan McGowan talks about Life at Petchyindee Gym in Bangkok
He fights tomorrow 25/1/15 Live at 3pm BKK time on Thai TV Channel 11 at Rangsit Stadium against Kongfark Sitjaroensap at 118lb
dan losing his last fight could be the making of him, i had watched it with a load of old pinsinchai/narupai guys and told them how good he was, they were like "hes not even scoring. hes not thrown one body kick or knee in two rounds!" i said he doesnt usually fight like that, they said big potential but you know who they said is the best ferrang nak muay worldwide JW. said hes a great scorer, said jordan and kulebin were the best but jordan by a far mile. i was shocked to be fair didnt think they would appreciate jordans style. i said liam but they just said very effective but jordan better scorer, they dont care about ko's only points. which i think is boring i personally prefer to watch liam than jord (both are mates and love watching both but they said jord)thais dont like fighters, like scorers apparently.
i said liam is a good scorer, but they only see what they see, people underestimate liams scoring, hes got all kinds of tricks . left body kick is great
Good on the lad, will go on to do great things.
Hi paulinthailand hope your well mate... Although I'm bit gutted about the loss (not half as gutted as Dan was) I agree the loss will be the making of him and we are not silly enough to think this will be last time this ever happens...a few things about the fight ...Dan was ill for best part of January mate as was a lot of the Petchyindee lads hence why some of the big fights got cancelled this month But Dan didn't want to pass up the opportunity to fight on TV haha that came back to bite him on the arse but hey ho maybe next time it will be a lesson learnt!!
It's interesting about you mentioning about him starting slower as the boss had said to Dan "you started to quick in your last fight this time relax for first 2 rounds and step up in 3 4 and 5" ... I guess some of this is to keep the gamblers guessing but that's another story!!.. Also when this fight was originally scheduled Dan had a 2lb advantage as kongfark has had over 100 fights but I think because it was on TV they have to be same weight...I'm not sure about you but I thought the Thai looked huge for 118 .... Honestly not making excuses as even with all the things being 100% the Thai would probably have took the win..it was a big step up for Dan and to be honest we are all quite positive even Dan himself and realise that sometimes at this level he might take a knock back or 2 but the ultimate goal hasn't changed mate....he will be back next month fighting again for sure and looking to improve :-)
All the best
Paul
