Tomorrow on Saturday September 23rd, 2006 starting at 6:00 PM Calgary Plays host to another International Muay Thai Competition H2H SHOCKWAVE presented by
CAKMA and featuring Team Canada athletes against Team Japan, England, the USA and other Canadian athletes
This highly anticipated fight event will be filmed for television play in Canada.
MAIN EVENT
Jason 'The Surgeon' Cutbill takes on his biggest challenge to date, Japan's Kuniyoshi Yanagawa. Having had to step up to the bat because Team Canada's Scott Clark was injured during training, 'The Surgeon' steps up in weight to the Lightheavyweight division (2 divisions) against a higher class international athlete who has almost twice his own fight experience. Yanagawa has fought as high as the heavyweight division so the lighter Cutbill appears to be not much of a problem for the Japanese athlete. Both are pumped and want to experience the thrill of victory and bring the honor of the win home to their country. This will be a very interesting and action packed bout.
CO-SEMI MAIN EVENT
Jesse 'Smiles' Miles gets a chance to answer his biggest competition question against England's Ian Coe. Having been scheduled to fight each other in Bangkok, Thailand in June of this year at the 2006 IFMA World Muay Thai Championships, an unfortunate injury kept these two athletes from answering the question at hand; if they would have met up at the competition, who would have won the fight? Would Miles have moved onto the Gold Medal fight? Coe wants to answer this question here and now, that he would have beaten Miles and that the way the finals transpired in Thailand was correct. Tomorrow night everyone will see if it was or was not. Who should have fought for the Gold Medal?
CO-SEMI MAIN EVENT
Sandra Bastian's homecoming fight features her against a very tough Japanese opponent, Junko Koyanagi. With Bastian winning the IFMA Gold Medal in Thailand and the honors of being awarded the best female athlete of the event in 2006, will she be resting on her laurels and underestimating the Japanese athlete? Koyanagi seems to think so. The Japanese athlete has spent a lot of her career fighting in Thailand so she feels no intimidation from the Canadian girl. She feels she will pressure the Canadian girl all the way to a victory. Tomorrow night will reveal the answer.
UNDER CARD
Misty Sutherland takes on the USA's Melanie 'Flatliner' Kohler-Edwards. This will be a very interesting encounter featuring the athlete who stalks against the athlete who hits and moves. Both athletes have wanted this match for a very long time and both have been training extremely hard for this encounter and both predict wins. The contrasting styles will prove to a key to victory.
Phil 'No Fear' Leier takes on Japan's Yuji NashiroBoth athletes have similar experience. The biggest question on this pressure cooker will be who is in better shape? The predictions rely heavily on this unknown factor. Who will be able to press throughout the fight and come away with the win? Nashiro has made it known that this will be a big win for him. Leier feels he is in great shape and will be able to frustrate his Japanese foe, all the way to victory.
