Hi Noi666,
Yes that's one big weight category.
Last year it was even worse by having 1 weight category 40-75kg.
This yeas there were 40-56 & 57-75kg.
If you happen to be on the lighter side of the weight category, you better be more skillful and more experienced to cover the weight disadvantage.
Hopefully next year the organiser would make it much safer by having a few more weight categories with not such big gap.
The above 2 pictures were taken during one of the states selection - Negeri Sembilan.
My mate Khoo Meng Yang is the one in white short.
There were 3 fighters overweight for 57-75kg category.
The organiser let all the fighters vote to let them in the tournament or stick to the rule not let them in.
Majority including my team voted for them to be in.
Then my mate Khoo (70kg) happened to be drawn to fight 2 of them.
Luckily, Khoo won against Mr. Azizi (around 85kg then) via 3 rounds decision in quarter finals and won against Mr. Kamal Akhmal(around 90kg then) via 2 rounds KO in semi finals.
They were both former experinced national amateur western boxers.
They were good with punches but not so familiar with kicks and throws.
Thinking back it is a scarry idea to fight someones with such big weight gap.
We tought they were maybe around 80kg+- only until we met Mr. Azizi recently and he told us about it.
