Congratulations to Rab Burt from Base Muay Thai on becoming the new ISKA Commonwealth Champion. Rab was matched with Michael Eagan from Wales who pulled out the night before the fight due to flu. After many hours spent on the phone, Paul Hennessy managed to get a credible replacement.
Once again Guy Ramsay went above and beyond the call of duty and stepped in with only hours to spare. The fight was close after the 1st two rounds, Guy was scoring well with good teeps followed by some dangerous high kicks forcing Rab to keep things tight. Both Guy and Rab stepped up a gear in the third each getting caught with an elbow and late into the round Rab hit Guy with a cracking body kick, which resulted in an 8 count. Guy retired after the 3rd. Guy Ramsay is a true warrior and a credit to all, can't thank you enough Guy.
This was a great year for Rab and Base Muay Thai. Rab has made a lot of sacrifices, not seeing much of his son Declan and partner Leah. He put in 110% for his preparation as always.
Thanks to Vinny Shoreman who showed Rab how to believe in himself after his loss to young Paul Grant. Vinny is one gem of a guy who has found his true calling in sports psychology. After one visit to the Base Gym, we were all buzzing and looking forward to training hard and reaping the rewards. Vinny will be back in Scotland in Feb of next year for a series of seminars.
Also a big thanks to Steven Grant who prepared Rab for each fight. Steven has endured 100’s of rounds of pad work and drills and has become one of the best pad men in the business. To James Jarvie, Rick Barnhill, Graeme Ness, John Dick, Douggie Clark and the boy’s at O’Briens gym, cheers for the extra sparring.
And finally (honest), thanks to Clinton and Jane Gray, for their continued sponsorship and support and to all who travelled to Aberdeen to cheer on the Big Yin.
Thanks
Some pics, still waiting on the action shots.
