Or its the chains that is restricting us and holding us back??? Everyone has a chain and its often important to keep good links to pass down knowledge, like Ray Mears stuff! LOL. But just cause someone done something for longer or tried to tell you how to do it, doesn't mean they are right. I try and coach with a big emphasis on technique, but thats only my interpretaion and understanding of it and also my ability to communicate it to them. But I have teenagers that already have better technique than me, have as strong an understanding and probably as good on the pads as me, so it won't be long before they go on and start to teach me and realise that some of the stuff I'm teaching them is a load of shit and find better ways! Should I expect them to ignore that and do it my way, not a chance! I do think that people cling onto what the know and have been told with a stupporn loyalty (which is fair enough), but in doing so does not actually learn or develop, you just end up diluting old and dubious knowledge. Every generation has to keep an open mind and cut the chains IMO, respect and appreciate them sure, but they won't fall without it.
