This first pic is of Godfrey Butler he had dynamite in both hands!!!
I just had to put some more golden memories on here so I dug out even more old pics, etc and you're right Mr Steve Taberner there will never be an era like this again,I loved the late 70's/early 80's I was'nt a champion then and was in awe of everything that was happening around me looking back it was quite magical.Something you mentioned earlier which I also remember was the matchmaking at those shows in Manchester,we would turn up,join the queue, get weighed and fight whoever they offered!
The 80's in my opinion saw many changes within the sport we had the PKA,CKO,BAFCA remember them the British Amateur Full Contact Association [I still have my old licence!],WACO which later changed to WAKO and in the mid to late 80's the ISKA then the WKA began to take off over here with Howard Brown and Kash Gill winning world titles in Birmingham.
You're right Steve we were all like one big family in those days, and yes we did get peanuts for fighting,my first paid fight was for £15 lol!,we did it for the love of our sport,a family reunion would be fun!!!...Phil
