i appreciate your honest opinion paul-you have hit the nail on the head and i really havent taken it the wrong way as people would expect.
i feel that this attitude amongst the sport is unfortunately very common and promoters are proving it..paul just gives it straight as always.lol
bill judd headlined julie v karen lynch on his show in september.it was one of the best, most exciting ftr fights i have ever seen.no feeling each other out in the first round and more elbows thrown in round one than nearly any male muaythai fight.this continued through all 5 rounds.no letting each other rest or have time off in the 5th.
im sure bill didnt feel let down or disgusted that this fight headlined his show.
people want to see exciting, relentless, dramatic fights whether its male or female.
female fights are only boring if you turn up with the attitude that it will be crap before it starts.
looking from a general public viewing do you think that joe average who has watched a bit of boxing and a few street fights would appreciate watching a thai fight where the first round and last round isnt entertaining.i live in a town where boxing rules and thaiboxing is karate etc etc (small minded, small town)and most would switch their tv off after round 1.then head to the pub to slag it off.
if we dont capture a new audience then it will just be us watching muaythai on sky and the sport will not grow.
the msa shows are showcasing britains best v the best from the rest of the world, which is where the sport has to go to show how good we are against the best.we are on the right road to educate a new audience but now is not the time for ignorance!
julie has represented the uk against foreign competitors 26 times and lost once
clifton brown believed in julie and put her on in on one of the best muaythai line ups ever representing the uk.i think she did us proud and has done for years alongside other hard working ladies who as a representative of great britain are bring it home right now.
good debate though.
