Hi Marianne,

Some of the most common staphylococcal skin infections are grouped with staphylococcus, including: impetigo, ecthyma, Cellulitis, Folliculitis, boils, dermatitis, scabies, diabetic ulcers

Staphylococcus (often called staph) is a common type of bacteria that lives in the skin and mucous membranes (up our nose) with no trouble, many people will have it without knowing!

There is a strain called “staphylococcus epidermis” which under certain circumstances, can become a problem!

Generally when exposed to other bacterias or when they are not kept clean, hence why so many in-patients or post op patients contract MRSA :/

Cross infection and hand hygiene protocols are still not followed as strictly as the NHS would like, despite all the training in situ.

Personally I would have anything unusual looked at, especially when kicking pads & bags after numerous other people and as much as we don't like to think it, not everybody has a high standard of hygiene.

Hope that waffle helps?

Kx
