World Championship Kickboxing returns to the Land of Enchantment the great state of New Mexico on June 1st, 2002 at the Santa Ana Star Casino in Albuquerque, New Mexico with a spectacular eleven fight pro card.
WCK will make history as this event dubbed “Bad to the Bone” will be the first live PPV broadcast out of New Mexico ever (7pm Pst/10pm Est). Four fights are scheduled for the iN Demand PPV show which will include two World Title fights, one female North American title fight and a title elimination bout featuring the best up and coming USA fighters from the East and West.
The fireworks will start when IKKC California champion Danny “No Play” Brandt climbs into the ring to face KKO artist Steve Milles of New York. Danny known as a well rounded Muay Thai fighter has laid wreckage to William Sriyapai via KO and many others before losing a decision James Cook for the U.S. title and taking on his only professional loss. Steve Milles a tall lean fighter with particularly nasty knee strikes proved multi-dimensional as he KKO’d (right roundhouse) top Armenian fighter Ken Aruturuyan in the last When Worlds Collide event. This fight should be vicious and non-stop from the get go.
The second fight on the broadcast will feature world champion Pongsan Ek-Yotin defending his title against veteran John “Shadow” Washington. Pongsan who electrified viewers last year with an all out war against Cuban Raul Llopis to take the title takes on the slippery Washington in this non-mandatory title defense. Washington…known as the “Shadow” hopes to show plenty of movement and angles to disrupt and confuse the straight up Muay Thai fighting style of Pongsan. Bold like a veteran, Washington chose to take a full contact fight to sharpen his skills & stamina while not hurting his legs just three weeks before this fight. Only time will tell if this is a winning strategy.
The third fight on the broadcast brings together two accomplished female fighters who have defeated everyone in their way except for each other. Angela Rivera dubbed as the American Queen of Muay Thai will face royalty from south of the border as “The Azteca Princess” Jackie Nava comes north to find out who is the best female fighter in North America. Nava an undefeated pro boxer who has also beaten Sunshine Fettkether in Muay Thai kickboxing has tremendous hand skills to go along with a solid low kick and improving knee arsenal… Angela Rivera is renown for her relentless knee attack and great front kicks. Both of these women have focused intensity when they fight and throw every technique with bad intentions.
The main event and final fight of the PPV broadcast will feature full Muay Thai rules as Thailand’s newest sensation Pajunsuk will come to America to face former Lumpini Stadium champion Matee. Pajunsuk comes to this fight being touted as possibly the best “pound for pound” fighter in Thailand…Matee who is just under one year in America is not ready to pass the torch of “pound for pound” to his younger foe until Pajunsuk passes what Matee feels the ultimate test…..to defeat him. Matee has already shown what a world class Thai fighter can do as he dominated a frustrated Danny Steele in his first fight in the USA. Knees, elbows, kicks and hands with be flying for all five rounds as both fighters want to win this IKKC World Title fight which will guarantee a title defense in the fight capital of the world…Las Vegas later in the year….
For those lucky enough to be able to witness this fight live at the Santa Ana Star Casino in Albuquerque, New Mexico seven other professional fights are scheduled for the evening.
