The statement says that there are differences between K-1 and 'International Kickboxing' rules.

Of course the difference between K-1 rules and I.R. rules.

International Kickboxing, or (I.R.) is a recognised style/ruleset that does not allow knee strikes.

This is just like saying there are differences between K-1 and F.C. (Full-Contact kickboxing).

Saying K-1 is different to I.R. or F.C. does not mean that K-1 is not regarded as a style of Kickboxing. Today, global media and event officers of K-1 recognise it as such.

I am happy with what Doug Kaplan says, especially considering his position as a C.E.O. of K-1. He clearly regards K-1 as a style of Kickboxing.
