From the WBC Muauythai website -

An elite performance capped a brilliant career for Britain's Denise Mellor who won the WBC Female World Title in the minimum weight division at Bournemouth on July 14.

Mellor showed outstanding skill and aggressive athleticism to win the title by unaminous points decision 49-47, 50-45, 50-46 against a young, brave challenger from Thailand, Nattaya Kantasit .

Both fighters made weight under the minimum -45 kgs requirement and excited the crowd in the seaside haven - the night after the arrival of Olympic torch.

The British champion showed kick and punching skills against the Thai challenger who, while excelling with her defensive kicks, was unable to curb her opponent's ring aggression.

On the same card the international super-middleweight challenge championship was won by Brett Hlavack (USA) who scored an emphatic points win against Harry Baker (UK).

Hlavack, a top ranked USA Muay Thai New Yorker who has fought at Maddison Square Garden, gave notice that he's a first class contender who's ready to challenge the best for the WBC world title.

The results of the other contests fought to WBC MUAYTHAI rules and regulation at the historic Bournemouth national heritage theatre venue were as follows:

Sally McCarthy won on points against Jo Zebreiga - Chang Bantamweight UK Cup

Alex Thomas won on points against Lance Armstrong - Chang National Cup

Liam Barker scored a 1st round KO against Simeon Elliott - Chang National Cup

Richie Harding beat by R2 stoppage Bernie Mendieta - Chang National Cup

James Freeman won on points against Ryan Nash - Chang National Cup
