I do self defence courses and classes on occasions and my usual opening intro is that if they want to save time and money I can give them a 3 step self defence plan that will see their chances of being victim to violence cut by 80-90% so won't need to do the rest of the course and can go home and live in relative safety. They are:
1, don't drink alcohol. ( you hughly increase your chances of either becoming a victim or perpetrator of aggression & violence)
2, don't go to places where other people are drinking alcohol ( increase your chance of becoming victim of a some drunken & cowardly idiots violence)
3, don't spend time in the company of someone who has been drinking alcohol in the last four days. (hung over people are moody and easially aroused to aggression. 2-3 days later the alcohol induced depression sets in and everything that goes wrong will somehow be your fault and potenally lead to aggressive outbursts or violence directed at you)
Not practical for everyone but is a good warning of the typical behavioues and reactions of using alcohol.
And I am yet to meet someone who can drink themselves smarter!
