Ramon Dekkers vs Genki Sudo I was just looking on sherdog.com and saw this, hope this is not true!!
Rich Weston

Who is genki sudo, what dekkers is fighting again, isnt genki a mmma bloke?
AndyC
Posted: 2005-03-14 11:33:44
HE is MMA but has fought in K1 Max a few times.

JonC
Posted: 2005-03-14 11:34:18
Sudo has fought K-1 max, and is currently contracted (I think) to K1 but is fighting more mma.

There is a thread on the UG about this, talking about the fight being under mma rules but haven't seen anything definet
Matt-

Genki is great on the ground. His stand up is so goofy it gives great fighters a hard time. Think Manson Gibson on crack and you will have Genki's stant up...
sunny
Posted: 2005-03-14 14:38:51
i read that this fight if it happens will be under mma rules, so dekkers will probably get submitted!!! unless he has a ground game
josh harley
Posted: 2005-03-14 15:50:47
Dekkers would get submitted.. Standing up would be a way different story.. Dekkers has more power then anyone Sudo has ever faced.. Dekkers has like double the power of ludwig he would really destroy sudo with his kicks and punches... His knees and elbows are deadly as well

If this is mma rules and Sudo doesn't elect to do his usual antics, you got to believe he can submit Dekkers at will on the ground. Unless Dekkers has been training for mma and / or has some grappling / jiu-jitsu background. Thing with Sudo, it is not a given he will try and take Dekkers down from the start. He may get caught up in doing his usual routine. But out of Sudo's 10 mma wins, 7 of them have been by a submission hold. So.
Barney
Posted: 2005-03-14 16:45:57
I pick Genki Sudo.

Has Dekkers trained MMA?

It probably wouldn't make a difference.

Sudo is smooth as silk in grappling.

Sudo ruins K1, all part of the circus, has no stand up
AndyC
Posted: 2005-03-15 07:15:44
he "spins" a lot !
josh harley
Posted: 2005-03-15 09:34:58
I don't think ludwig has a very good ground game and he has managed to beat sudo.. And Dekkers is like twice as strong as ludwig so maybe he has a chance

Josh

Posted: 2005-03-15 11:11:00
dekkers could not FORCE sudo to stand and fight him and without doubt destroy him even now whereas sudo could take sudo down and win easily.
Bad fight for dekkers.
He may as well try to beat ronnie o sullivan at snooker
sunny

lol He may as well try to beat ronnie o sullivan at snooker.
true that!

Ive been snooping around the internet and it seems dekkers has been working on his ground work from the recent pictures of him and you have to remember cor hemmers is the owner of golden glory gym and they have world class mma fighters as well as muay thai fighters.(i presume cor would train ramon for this one)After all the negativity and my head probably dosent want this to happen my heart is with ramon and i hope he can pull it off i am realy excited to see this fight. Can you imagine a ground and pound from ramon!!!
JonC
Posted: 2005-03-17 03:20:11
Also been doing a bit of snooping, and it does seem that he has been training with Golden Glory. Although the word is that his motivation for a comeback is purely financial - apparently he will be offered fights in K1-Max if he first competes in MMA.

Posted: 2005-03-17 05:44:43
Dekkers will get tooled on the ground by GENKI. Genki has fought enough k1 to get dekkers down and from thei there is no way Dekkers will be able to sweep genki.

However in k1 Max he might have a chance. If he is not completely shot.
sunny
Posted: 2005-03-17 11:42:37
Im still not sure about this one, i hope he does well against sudo but i cant see it in all honesty! sudo has some crazy submissions but im sure dekkers would not fight this fight if he had any doubt about his ability, so you never no!Has this fight been confirmed yet?
stefan
Posted: 2005-03-19 20:45:36
Yes sunny, it has been confirmed through a good friend of mine who talked directly with Ramon. Ramon was offered a two fight contract. With the 1st being the mma against Sudo and the 2nd fight in K1-Max against TBD. It shows that Ramon is a true fighter, taking this contract on short notice and not having fought for a few years. He is a man with NO excuses!! (Of course the money makes it worth it also...)
Matt-
Posted: 2005-03-19 20:49:49
Hope he doesn't get hurt fighting Genki, I want to see him in Max!
Barney
Posted: 2005-03-19 21:01:03
Maybe this is a safe fight for Dekkers.

How long has he been inactive in Muay Thai?

This fight should be alot easier and less damaging then if he was to fight any of the top level Muay Thai fighters.
Matt-
Posted: 2005-03-19 21:01:43
Yeah, unless he doesn't tap fast enough.

It would be great to see him in the max. better a few years ago but still...

The match has officially been added to Heroes card. Along with LeBanner now fighting Akiyama- the Judo guy Heroes is hoping will be their star.
Barney
Posted: 2005-03-21 16:17:02
I can imagine Genki Sudo winning.
But I can't imagine Genki hurting or KOing Dekkers.

Dekkers coming back to fight a top Muay Thai fighter is not a good idea.
Dekkers coming back to fight a low or mid level Full Contact fighter is O.K.
Dekkers coming back to fight a top level Full Contact fighter is O.K.

Not good to fight a nobody.

He's going for the top.
Rich Weston
Posted: 2005-03-22 01:18:46
the good thing about this fight for dekkers is that if he does get stopped on the ground then he can blame the rules so either way win or loose the bout he is on to a winner this is a very smart fight for him to come back with.
stefan
Posted: 2005-03-22 08:21:47
You all forget that he is the kind of guy who doesn't care or look for excuses. He is a true fighter, so he'll fight no matter what, not looking at the consequences...

Richard how is it smart to lose?????
Barney
Posted: 2005-03-22 15:04:43
I think I understand Rich's statement.
I'm not speaking for him but.....
He did not state "smart to lose".
He did state "win or loose (lose) the bout, he is on the a winner".
I think that means that if Dekkers looses(loses) he will most likely not be getting seriously injured. And he will be losing to a top guy so it is a win win situation.
vinny
Posted: 2005-03-22 15:43:31
Dekkers a muay thai legend not a MMA fighter pointless doing it he loses he loses still a loss.
Rich Weston
Posted: 2005-03-22 15:50:46
Do you know what vinny i have been almost suckerd into the k 1 style of thinking i was on about dekkers saleability and image if he looses man i never thought i would think like that i recon if dekkers should choose to come back it should be on a high class show against a high class muay thai fighter in holland or maby thailand he was and is still a "real fighter" but if he is doing it for the money good luck to him.
Rich Weston
Posted: 2005-03-22 15:51:12
Thanks for the reality check vinny.
stefan
Posted: 2005-03-23 08:26:38
vinny, you just don't get it I guess. If one wanted to be sure of a win, one should pick a fight with a fourth grader. But to not fight because it is not smart to have a loss is a sorry mentality and definetely not the right mentality to have as a fighter.
buakow_boy
Posted: 2005-03-23 09:20:54
agree with vinny but at the same time if he needs the cash i guess doing mma beats selling crack or going on the game
David Cummings
Posted: 2005-03-23 10:04:26
I agree with Stefan on this subject being a fighter he should not even consider wether he will win or lose. That is why he is a champion

Different sports football and tennis both ball games different rules,i do get it Stefan old chap if its for money then ok but i am avid fan of the legend status keep it as it was,Dekker is a legend a true superstar but he fought at 70/73 and was and never will be the Dekker who battled the top boys.

Fighters have this will and drive to achieve but reality here is whats needed hey Dekker may do it but to keep going to the well over and over is dangerous trust me the worlds full of slurring has beens that had cheer leaders as coaches striving for the last taste of glory.

He He yea i still have the dekkers with the wedge haircut and th bad tash slim and dangerous in my mind whenever antbody mentions him but that was then and this is now as you know a fighter is a proud animal and if he still feels he has something to prove(he dosent) or something to offer(maby ) to the sport we cant do anything to stop him,so the only thing we can do is support him in the name of muay thai and hope he does well.

Roger Deaton

It Dekkers can't get to Sudo right off the bat and Sudo doesn't go spin crazy, this fight will more than likely be over in under two minutes. You got to keep in mind that 7 of Sudo's 10 mma wins have come via some sort of submission hold. I don't remember his fight with Ludwig off the top my head though I have seen it, but Ludwig is an experienced mma fighter. He screwed around with Butterbean because he could. Sudo has always been the off-the-wall when he fights. Watch his fight from 2000 against Andre Pederneiras from Colosseum. Dekkers will be in serious trouble as soon as his back is on the mat. Royler Gracie could do nothing against Sudo when Royler was on his back. Sudo might be a lil crazy, but there is method to the madness. I don't see him thinking he can just stand and throw-down with Dekkers. I have seen only a little on Dekkers. Don't know a whole lot about him. But at least he has the balls enough to do a fight under rules that don't favor him and against opponent who has a big advantage under those rules. I got nothing but respect for a guy who will fight anyone, under any rules. No matter the outcome.
Barney

Dekkers is fighting one of the best.
One of the best Full Contact fighters.
Not one of the best Muay Thai fighters.
Is someone(s) on this thread trying to insinuate that Dekkers should fight one of the best Muay Thai fighters?
Is there some shame for Dekkers for coming back and fighting in Full Contact?
buakow_boy
Posted: 2005-03-24 03:56:05
pointless fight if its mma sudo has already won, he will just muck about with dekkers like he did butterbean. Once he is wrapped around dekkers leg it wont be long before he is tapping out.

Ramon "Diamond" Dekkers is NOT going to fight in that heroes thing, because A friend of mine is trainend by Dekkers ( Ait Said ) and he asked him...so i guess this ends the discussion huh??

this was posted on another forum (al3xweb), dont know how much truth is in it but official k1 web site has feature on heros show and there is no mention of dekkers or sudo fighting at all.

hope im wrong,i was quite looking forward in the end to the diamond getting near sudo and knocking him the fcuk out ))

After another of his flashy ring entrances -- this one featuring a team of baton-waving cyber-cop dancers -- Genki Sudo of Japan found himself facing the no-nonsense Dutch boxer-turned-kickboxer Ramon Dekker, a 35 year old veteran making his mixed martial arts debut here. Dekker wanted to slug it out, but Sudo got the takedown early on. From there the two did some rolling about, each working the other's legs, and it was Sudo who was better, submitting Dekker with what he later described as his "new type of heel lock."

This taken from k1 site.
Matt-
Posted: 2005-03-26 13:56:37
It looked like a pretty basic heelhook to me. Ramon didn't even throw one punch standing up. Genki pointed at the ground seconds before he shot in on Ramons legs to take him down with ease.

cheers
quite impressed with dekkers ground work untill sudo got him.Sudo really is awesome when it comes to ground work though.
Looking at his record, not only did he ko one of the gracie family in his last fight mma, i was also surprised to see him take Masato and Kraus to a decision in k1 rules, shows he can stand with the best stand up also.
Interested to see dekkers next fight.Kraus would be a war
