Hi!

Me and James McSweeney have just finished another stint in Holland training, currently we are suffering at the hands of our Physio, Roland, lol, and I've jumped on his machine as James is screaming too much, lol! My turn next...gulp!

We have a new Chief Coach in the legend that is Lucien Carbin - and he is a legend! James and I are amazed at how little we know, and the incredible knowledge that Lucien has! We're back at kindergarten!!!!

Lucien is really amiable, and as the quality of his students (who include Ilonka Elmont, Tyrone Spong, Rodney Faverous, Valentine Overeem, Alistair Overeem......the list goes on!) is an incredible teacher. I really like his teaching style too!

Lucien is a true Dutch legend, one of the original Dutch greats from the times of Bob Kamen and co, and scarily kicks all our butts in training now! His skills and depth of knowledge are astounding.

We are obviously loving the training, and look forward to getting back to England and beating up our training partners, lol! But the advantage to you guys of us being with Lucien is that we are planning to bring him over for seminars in various places around the South of England including London.

Interested in attending a seminar with Lucien? Post your interest, and we can then plan for potential venues, numbers, that kinda thing! Then we can get him over, and start getting some more of his knowledge!

Gary,3 years ago I was on holiday in Spain and There I found a message in my mailbox,If I have pictures of Lucien Carbin. It was EricR from Ax here and when I was home in Holland,I sended him 25 pictures of Lucien and they made a picture gallery of the pictures.A few months later they invited me to come to Amsterdam and there I meeted Lucien for the first time.Everybody know me here as the big fan of Rob Kaman and that's why I helped them with the pictures,Rob played soccer for Ajax in the seventies and then he saw a kickboxinggala in Amsterdam with Lucien in the mainevent,he was so impressed by him, that he wanted to train with him and he did and Lucien is the one,who took Rob to Mejiro gym. That's the reason I helped them with the pictures,it was a big honor for me,to help the man, who's a big idol for Rob Kaman. From that moment on December 2002 I go to the most gala's with EricR and I became friends with Ilonka and Tyrone and Imro.

Thats a nice recent picture of Lucien - and I have a few bruises from Imro too, lol!!

Smiler. I was always fairly aware of Lucien from the early days when i was first interested in the sport. He was not too well known in the uk but several of us interested in the Dutch phenomenon at the time knew he had beaten Ronnie.
Eric and Dirk have always sung his praises on here and posted many times on many threads providing a ton of info and pictures. It's a shame that this available knowledge, as often happens, doesn't get absorbed as well as it deserves.
Perhaps this thread will once again highlight Lucien's history.
As a Muaythai fan his style wouldn't draw me in but i respect him immensly non the less.

What is Lucien's Style?
Traditional?
Unorthodox?
Power?
Combos?
Crane?

I haven't asked him what he would call his style, but looking from the outside in, its 'what works'!!

He seems to have taken the background from karate and Muay Thai and applied his knowledge from both. His techniques have a mixture of power, combinations, flow, application...everything that works!

Crane, lol!

How're you Dex?
