england V france for european amateur title

magb presents full contact amateur fight night June 11th

after an awesome performance described as the amateur fight of the year in walsall on the zuccala vs orchard show, Rob 'Diesel' Stevens B'ham martial arts centre, challenges the french savate & french amateur full contact champion to the ISKA european super welter weight european title, making this possibly his last amateur fight, with the possibility of rob finally then fighting 'pro'.
respect to coach 'h' willock, his attitude - if you want that title, you have to be prepared to fight anyone in europe & robs record leaves him the under dog, this being far from a hand picked match.

this followed by anouther midlands fighter who is making a name for himself - or rather living up to his name - qasim 'the dream' nisar, USKA, Vs ricky massey BCC, 2 up & coming fighters with both camps right behind them in marking this territory for the midlands area title.

exciting anticipation as by reputation, magb bring camps from all over the u.k. to win their positions in the ring.
featuring,
B'ham martial arts centre, USKA, Eclipse, BCC - midlands
tskickboxing - south
alf love bba - north
terminators - stoke
jesters, sue fell kb - derby
cardiff kb - wales
& last but not least team clichy, paris france.

no problem colin, trevor spencer has 5 fighters matched so it will be nice for them to have southern support - we like noise for the fighters!
its an earlier start this show which is better for the camps coming from further away.

hi whitti
this particular show is completely amateur full contact with headgaurds (we're kind enough not to make them wear them for the poster pictures!!!). do you fight yourself?

I fight yes, I am Lee and fight under Fran at Eclipse. I think I am fighting at your show but I fight without headguard as per Matlock fight night. I think Fran got intouch with you yesterday and I am just waiting confirmation.

Cheers

Lee

hello lee - yes i spoke to fran yesterday - confirmation given today. details are with your instructor.

i'm glad you are fighting on magb, you caught my eye in matlock & i am looking forward to seing you fight.

we are going to experiment with something on this show.

magb have worked really hard in trying to develope a solid set of rules in amateur kickboxing. the idea was never about having control as to when fighters stepped up a level, rather to provide a platform where fighters could develope their ring craft & confidence within rules that where slightly more accomodating for novices, so that they could take a little time before moving up a notch, if & when they were ready. we have several fighters who are choosing to remain within amateur & we will take them as far within this as they want to go.

on the same token, its only fair that if there are fighters who do want to step it up before fighting 'pro', we should look at being able to accomodate them also, keeping some distinctions, but taking things naturally through to defining 'pro' entry at 5 x 2 rounds.

for this show, we have 2 bouts booked whereby both coaches feel confident that the fighters are already at this slightly higher level so we are going to do what boxing does & introduce a 4 round fight, no headgaurds.

after some lengthy discussion with some of my piers who i respect as coaches & promoters, this seems to be an agreed viable option.

so lee, as long as you don't mind being described as an experiment - i will see you fighting fit on june 11th!!

Thank you for your kind comments regarding my Matlock fight. That sounds ok to me and i have full trust in Frans decision to.

Not heard from Fran but I know he has alot on at the moment... Will it be 4 x 2min or 4 x 1 1/2min rounds? And is it still the same fighter Stefan.

Many Thanks and look forward to show

Looking foward to the show , always impressed with the quality of fights and "fair" matches MAGB produce .... good luck

thanks dale
after racheals last win, i am looking forward to seeing her fight, always nice to see a fighter's confidence grow - female kickboxers don't always get the best press, so i am hopeing for the girls to strutt their stuff!!!

i think that we have prooved if nothing else, when matches are made as even as possible along with structured rules, the quality of the fighting is amazing.

the other major contribution is that in knowing that the fighters are matched without the b.s. we are attracting the decent instructors who train their fighters well - i am constantly amazed at the quality fighting we have seen, just imagine how good some of these guys are going to be after 7 or 8 fights, hopefully giving 'pro' circuit an improved standard, which is what we were looking for.

how can it not be good with coaches like trevor spencer, neil kelly, h willock & of course dale wood!

fight line up - will post tomorow
magb

just to correct mis type, only just noticed - rob deisel stevens fights at 69.5kg, not 65.5kg.

had final check in with the instructors - we've got some serious fighting talk for this show.
really looking forward to the ricky massey Vs qasim nisar fight, both coaches sounding confident - if ricky fights as strong as coach rob raymond sounds, we are in for a good one, not that qasim from uska will be fazed, this gentleman who is so humble out of the ring, rightfully confident once he's gone through the ropes.
this is going to be a tough battle for both contenders with their different styles, it really could go either way.

alf loves guys, who are experienced matt fighters have started to cross over to full contact & always spice things up, in particular sammy love, this should be an excellent fight with matt offered from tskickboxing.

special encouragement to racheal rose from jesters & martin smith bmac, really pleased to have murdock kellyman & tommy collett, class fighters in the making, for complete novices george markou bmac, lee jackson tskickboxing & from what trevor spencer has said, i can't wait to meet you - gad mullins - coaches have trained them all really well for these fights, hard work always deserves to pay off, best of luck to you all.

as said on previous post, lee whitfield from eclipse took my eye, not that we should expect anything less from coach fran zuccala.

would also like to welcome the other new clubs to our show, coach sue fell, who recently had success with all her fighters at the iska european opens in germany, everything i have seen from this lady indicates quality fighters, denzil lawrence from cardiff kb & humbert salmon from terminators in stoke.

last but not least, rob 'diesel' stevens is described in this last week as looking 'awesome'.
enough said really!!

best of luck to all fighters & coaches.

Hi Dawn, you have mail.
magb
Posted: 2006-06-10 09:13:52
after a change of fighters from the french camp to nizar gallas, we have finaly been able to translate his fight record correctly.
nizar is the french full contact champion for 2004 & 2006, he has had a total of 25 fights, winning 16.
this is made up of kickboxing & full contact. his full contact record is 18 fights, 15 wins 3 loss.
the origonal fighter, whose name is on the poster, nizar has already beaten in france.

he coaches for KFBC Clichy gym in paris & has that quiet air of confidence about him.

rob 'diesel' stevens has 13 fights 12 wins 1 draw. he holds midland area, english & british amateur full contact titles & coaches at birmingham martial arts centre.

both fighters weighed in at 68.7kg on the dot!!

nizar has the advantage of experience & height, leaving diesel the under dog on paper, however, as we have seen many times over - this means nothing.

both fighters & coaches have shook hands, leaving the rest to be decided in the ring tomorow night - will post results there after.

ISKA European Title
Nizar Gallas Clichy Team Paris Vs Rob'Diesel'Stevens B’ham Martial Arts Centre...... very close points win Rob , The french fighter certainly came to fight , Great fight to watch with Rob having to work for every second of the fight to make sure he took the belt

Kyle Williams Eclipse Kickboxing Vs Declan Bailey Alf Love BBA
Matched at 43kg

Round 1
Confident stand from both corners, explosive right form the 1st second – both fighters burst into good combinations of kicks & punches. Kyle edged forward, taking lead over the latter part of the round, Declan retiring to the corner looking a little tired.
Round 2
Kyle taking complete control over this round – Declan, a European champion, making some mistakes in desperation to try to close down Kyle’s legs, unsuccessfully trying to get on the inside.
Round 3
Declan starts a bit stronger on this round with his kicks, however, Kyle’s superb kicking ability appear too much of a problem for him to overcome. Kyle Williams maintains control, style & a better range of accurate kicks & punches, winning the fight with a majority decision.
An excellent display of light continuous from both corners.

Gad Mullins TS Kickboxing Vs Jason McMasters Terminators
Matched at 69kg

Round 1
Nice steady 1st round, both fighters trying to find their range, seemingly fairly even 1st round.
Round 2
Jason comes out with a stiff jab, pushing Gad back, continuing with a flurry of punches, sending Gad on the back foot. Gad answers with a flurry of his own, not fazed. Jason picks up the pace of the fight, generally landing the cleaner shots.
Round 3
Jason pushes forward, landing a straight right hand, again, Gad unfazed returns with an accurate clean uppercut. Gad has a slight lack of concentration – Jason manages to land a straight jab to Gads face, sending him to the canvass & an 8 count is delivered to the red corner by ref Mike Belgrave. Gad makes a positive attempt to claim an advantage a little too late; the fight ends with both fighters finishing strong, respect to Gad whose age makes him a little more seasoned than his opponent, Gad also giving away some experience.
Jason McMasters taking a unanimous decision win.

Harroon Glazlad Cardiff Kickboxing Vs Darren O’Neil Alf Love BBA
Matched at 53kg

Round 1
Darren started off very sharp using his legs well, firing an assortment of kicks, keeping his opponent at bay. Harroon tries to come forward but Darren’s footwork allows him to pick Harroon off quite comfortably.
Round 2
Harroon struggles to keep up with Darren who is impressively evasive, constantly picking Harroon off with kick & punch combinations.
Round 3
Darren maintains his range & pace – applying constant pressure, executing confident kick & punch techniques, Harroon being kept on the back foot.
Excellent transitional fight from light to full contact, unanimous decision going to Darren O’Neil.

Vicky Ranson TS Kickboxing Vs Kerry Stewart Sue Fell Kickboxing
Matched at 53kg

Round 1
Slow start from both sides, uneventful round with both fighters using the time to sound each other out, looking pretty even.
Round 2
This starts with a faster pace, both girls attacking each other furiously with punches & kicks, pushing each other forward & back. Vicky coming through the stronger, catching Kerry with 2 straight punches & a left hook, slumping Kerry over the ropes, finishing this round with an 8 count – talk about being saved by the bell!!
Round 3
Both fighters stand toe to toe, trading viciously, Vicky catching Kerry with the stronger shots. Vicky, never frightened to plant herself & go to work, Kerry relentlessly trying to defend herself, taking this round into quite a slug fest – both fighters going hammer & tongue!!
The crowd at this point appreciating the fighters, Vicky Ranson, too strong for her admirable opponent, takes the unanimous decision.

James ‘Bucket Casey Alf Love BBA Vs Murdock Kellyman USKA Kickboxing
Matched at 67kg

Round 1
Fast & furious 1st round – allowing no time for finding each other out, constant relentless attacks from both corners. Not pretty, but a very strong 1st round with nice combination of kicks & punches, Kellyman landing a strong right hand dropping ‘Bucket’ momentarily. The crowd at this point supporting each of the camps at such a volume the instructors had difficulty being heard in the corner at the end of Round 1!
Round 2
Continuing the phonetic pace, Murdock starts taking some control with clean combinations, dropping ‘Bucket’ again with a stiff back leg round kick. Giving him the extra confidence, Murdock sets to, landing excellent kick punch combinations.
Round 3
At this point, the spectators are raising the roof, USKA supporters living up to their reputation, the Northern club also holding their own – ‘Bucket’ comes in with a beautiful back leg sweep, more combinations & then another foot sweep – Murdock answers with an axe kick, landing on the shoulder. Both fighters finishing strong, ending a brilliant fight.
Murdock Kellyman winner by unanimous decision.

Lee Jackson TS Kickboxing Vs Martin Smith Birmingham Martial Arts Centre
Matched at 64kg

Round 1
Both corners came out bombing, giving no time for space or range, throwing some heavy artillery. Both take some phenomenal strong punches, Martin takes 2 good shots on the chin which seems to stiffen his legs for the latter part of the round, Lee also causing Martin further distress by cornering him.
Round 2
Lee puts Martin on the back foot, again backing him into the corner landing heavy head shots. Martin is under pressure & Lee’s attack is relentless as he continues throwing leather.
Round 3
Lee starts the 3rd round with much of the same, but then the pace seems to catch up with him. Jackson gets a little sloppy, Martin attempts a 2nd burst but the heavy attacks of the first 2 rounds have took there toll, Martin struggling with his accuracy.
Strong fight – a good old fashioned tear up!
Very enjoyable majority decision 1st fight win for Lee Jackson.

Cemal Goken Eclipse Kickboxing Vs Tommy ‘Gun’ Collette USKA Kickboxing
Matched at 69kg

Round 1
These fighters not wanting to give each other any ground, both start off with strong kicks & punches. Tommy’s body kicks constantly being planted in, landing cleanly. After a furious exchange of blows, Tommy backs Cemal to the ropes, catching him with a hook cross straight leg round kick to the body combo. Moments later Cemal retaliates, catching Tommy with a sharp strong left hook to the head, slightly swaying Tommy. Straight back in, Cemal attempts a spinning hook kick, catching Tommy’s gloves, the excitement of this fight gaining momentum, Tommy unfazed presses forward with a double jab cross, ending Round 1
Round 2
Even Ref Mike Belgrave smiles with pleasure at this bout as he calls Round 2, stepping up a notch, we see an immediate heated exchange of stinging kicks & punches, neither fighter willing to back off, excellent defence on both sides, quality shots being thrown at such a pace, but well defended as most hit the guards. Tommy manages to break through scoring with an excellent combination – rolling in a hook punch round kick to the body. Cemal sets himself well, throwing a straight powerful right, but again well defended by Tommy as it catches his guard. Tommy just ploughs forward again, ending Round 2.
This has got to be one of the best fights ever seen on an MAGB, these guys showing pure class – the spectators absolutely thrilled!
Round 3
We come in again – Tommy opening with a body kick & a short exchange of punches follow – Cemal jabs out a side kick, and then flicks a round kick to the head. Tommy pushes forward with a body kick, both fighters standing their ground, not giving an inch – the crowd hardly able to keep up – we’ve got head movement, foot work, attack, defence – eventually Tommy backs Cemal up, Cemal slips Tommy’s left jab, Tommy throws over a right hand followed by a double left hook, then a right. Cemal clinches - the crowd on their feet – Tommy scores a left body kick, followed by an overhand right left hook combo – again Cemal clinches.
The round finishes after a short exchange from the fighters, the crescendo a spinning hook kick from Tommy, hitting Camels gloves, but what a finish!
This is full contact at its best – absolutely the fight of the night!
Split decision win to Tommy ‘Gun’ Collette.

Matt Offord TS Kickboxing Vs Sammy Love Alf Love BBA
Matched at 70kg

Round 1
True clash of styles, both fighters struggling to find their range, Love trying to pull off some of his flashy kicks but not a lot landing cleanly, pretty even looking round.
Round 2
Sammy unstoppable in his attack, this fighter very unpredictable causing Matt difficulty, understanding the hesitation as to come in on Sammy would be risky, as a result Matt gives Sammy to much time allowing him to mount his constant attack.
Round 3
Matt again giving away ground, Sammy continues to come forward, not a pretty fight, then Sammy does a real sacrifice kick (wow) Matt’s usual ability stunted, he shows frustration with a gesture of almost disbelief, just not able to tame Sammy’s style, giving the unanimous win to Sammy Love.

Adam Jones Cardiff Kickboxing Vs Lee Whitfield Eclipse Kickboxing
