Hi all,

we have been working hard in conjunction with the UKMF to bring the IFMA amateurs to Cambridge.

We hope that their are like minded instructors out there who wish to bring forward the amateur scene here in the UK, so that we can help build a stronger English Amateur Team.

Our hopes are that we would have provided a platform for instructors to propel their students into the Amateur games held all over the world, and finalising in Thailand on the 5th December.

I have personally invested some £550 in new protective official amateur equipment, to ensure that the fighters get the best chance in succeeding.

If only one fighter makes the team due to us holding the IFMA competitions, I will be very proud of what we have achieved.

The date has been set, the equipment ordered, the officials are ready, the medical staff will be onsite, and the opportunity is now... will you be there?

If you have any fighters you wish to attend this competition, then please email me their details (Name, Age, Weight, Experience).

Note** Please forward on to any instructors who you believe would be interested in getting their students onto the English IFMA Team.

(all equipment is provided, no cameras or camcorders allowed ~ we record and take pictures of the fighters during all events,
if you do not wish your fighters to be captured on film, please let us know in advance)

Here are the rules:

Hey Ryan,

It looks like you are raising the standards ( IFMA sanctioning and complete matching eqp Red vs Blue etc.. - not cheap to do, but very important for the Am game).

Good luck with your event, hope it goes well for you.

Keep an eye on our Amateur dates at www.aka-england.org

If we don't clash, then maybe we can exchange athletes.

Ok as much as I wont to get Hanuman Muay Thai on, I think at this stage it will be un-workable.

So please no more fighters... sorry you are gonna have to wait for the next event. Oh my god, did I just say that.. hats off to all the promoters out there.

Interclubs are one thing, Amatuers a total new level, I can only imagine the headaches of a pro show.

We now have 24 matched fights!

Just doubled the number of helping hands on the day, and have some good things coming for the fighters and spectators.

More info shortly.

Again thanks to everyone... now tell someone that there are some real quality fights coming up, in abundance.

Can't wait for Liam Robinson, Jackie Short, Tom (NMT), Erick Lloyd and Jack Griffin fights.

Many thanks to Ryan for organising a fantastic event, myself and all the Phraya Pichai team from Bury really enjoyed it. The whole event ran very smoothly, all the hard work was much appreciated by all.

Just a quick mention to my team mates Matthew Butcher and Jack Griffin for their excellent wins. We will look forward to the next one!

Hi all,

here is a link to the next IFMA Amatuer International competition (Busan - Korea).

Let me know if anyone from the competition yesterday goes, it would be nice to know if we have helped in some way.

The next event late in the winter months of October/November (date to be confirmed) will hopefully draw a better crowed for the fighters to show of their skills to.

We had a cracking 17 bouts from fighters travelling far and wide, with 13 of the UK's leading instructors attending with students.

There was definately some prospects for the English Team in yesterday, with at least two that will probably draw the right attention.

There will be a dvd available later on next week for £15, or £20 for the dvd and a limited edition IFMA Cambridge Elimination t-shirt (inc. p&p).

Once again thanks to everyone who took part yesterday, if you have any reasonable suggestions on the event, please do let me know, your input is much appreciated.

Yours in Muay Thai

Kru Ryan

Good event Ryan thanks.
My team mate Richie Gent has already posted - I echo all that he's said (unlucky on the split decision loss Richie - we nearly had 3 fighters, 3 wins). I'm looking forward to watching the DVD, especially as I saw very little of the other fights as I was prep'ing fighters. Great to see everyone there (missed speaking to Sean Toomey and Liam Robinson though!)

Regards,
Don

16 out of 17 bouts were unanimous which was nice to see, the split one i felt the boxer from phraya pichai had done enough to earn a winning draw, the other 2 judges also has it a draw but opted for the style of the other boxer. it was a tough one as all fights were closely well matched so there were a few draws which you had to pick a winner according to IFMA guidelines even if the points were equal. Congratulations Ryan, thanks for looking after us, bet you are gutted u didnt have it in your own gym now, could have fitted it in i reckon.

Thank you all..

Bill, Liam, Don, Darren, Stu, Nigel, Richard, Maxine, I hope to see you all back in October.

Richie, you know how close the fight was, and when you watch the dvd, you'll see the debate still went on long after you left the ring.

Unfortunately someone has to win, otherwise I believe it would have been given a draw.

Next time, no retreat no surrender till someone is knocked out.. then you'll know for sure!

Liam.. you know it... oh well lesson learned... paramedics and venue hire where the financial winners on this event...

however I think English Amatuer Muay Thai took a decent step forward, hopefully in a positive direction, and for that I believe I achieved my goal.

I'm looking forward to the next one, iron out one or two things, and see if I can make it better, smoother and bigger.

Pisand writes:

Hi Ryan - Are the IFMAs in Thailand this year on the King's Birthday, then?"

Hey man, aparently not. I am awaiting full confirmation at the moment, but here is how I understand it... will clarify later if its not right.

IFMA are now part of Multy Sport Games, and just like the Olympics any country can bid to host these games.

This year it is Busan - Korea Aug '08, and next year is Darwin - Australia May '09, with possibly Bangkok - Thailand Dec '10 (not confirmed).

This is something I didnt know, and only now becomes a little clearer, so my appologies for some of the above statements about the finals being in Thailand, last year it was right though.

So just to clarify the above...

Some official info I got recently to try and help clarify.

As MuayThai has grown so much that IFMA is now a part of GAISF, we now can move with all the other sports for Olympic recognition.

But we first must be a part of games like TAFISA, ARAFURA & the Commonwealth games ect, first.

So in essence this is the sport of MuayThai growing bigger than Thailand.

for me..

I think its important that we continue to push forward, and as suicidal as it sounds.. i'm gonna try and hold amatuers every other month or so..

hopefully by the end of 2009, we would have helped establish a strong English team worth competing anywhere in the world.

Good luck to you few who are competing in Busan later this month. Chok Dee!
