rest is the best thing for it, and Voltaren cream, definitly no running. i had a similar problem and the physio gave me calf stretching type exercises to practice.

sounds like the stretches would do more harm than good! ??????????
why stretch and already over stretched tendon.
perhaps handsup is referring to stretching after the healing process is complete in order to prevent the strain happening again?
if he isnt then i would certainly question the advice given by that physio :)

Mark any advice?

I don't know. i'd get advise fomr a good physio. That said I think some physios are great and some suck. Stretching a damaged area, as a general rule (as far as I know) is not a good idea.
In terms of healing there are lots of thread that touch on it..healing this or that (the basics are generally the same).

My advise is to get a good assesment from someone that you trust, not just anyone. Its hard as most people only know thier field and don't know enough in another field to really know if they are good or not.

Results are one of the best ways but its hard to find out success rates.

Its good if you kind find one really good guy in an area that can say, my clients and I have gotten good results in this area from so and so.

If I told you to do breathing exercises you'd probably think I was on crack. But the physio in Vancouver who gets about the best results and highest success rate only does breathing exercises with all his clients. Of course you talk to any doc or physio and they'll probably say that idea is bs.

Just like most experts will say the jaw can't through you lumbar spine out or give you leg length issues. Of course results talk.

NUCCAs will tell you the C1 can throw your whole body out of wack but a doc will generally laugh at the idea. The fact that people get results (my Dad can barely function when his is out and going back in you can see the difference).

My point?

Find someone with results attatched to the name not the letters and degrees (usually both). If a doc says-here go to this guy ask him about results.

The more you learn the easier it is to make your own decisions on who is good. But if you go to a chiro for 5 yrs to get the same thing done over and over, do think that maybe its not a lasting sollution?

In terms of this issue-maybe there is a reason to stretch it, maybe its after healed-whole chain tight would likely effect its likelyhood of getting damaged.

I can't think of many circumstances that one should stretch an injured area (but this certainly isn't my expertise area).

I'm always a fan of traumeel!!!! (don't eat or use any peppermint, spearmint, mint etc -including toothpaste with homeopathic products)

Keep in mind the stretch of plasebo (read belief). 63% of plasebo opperations and medications are effective. Meaning the power of belief in healing is HUGE!!! (as opposed to they just believed it and the drug is no good-umm think of what that says!!!!!!)

Believe you are healing and imagine it and tell yourself you are etc etc (brain doesn't know the differance between reality and thought/visualization etc -quite simple really, nothing is real-other than in your brain as thought, out side this moment! -won't get into quantum physics and now reality lol)

welsh-do zone 1 exercises!!!!! (stress in that area by any chance?) noticeable or not that will bring Qi flow to the area you are trying to heal).

(over time with Qi work one can start to feel it and KNOW it is very real. But science can show it is real now too! I get energy work done sometimes and if my eye are closed I can usually know exactly where she is working even if she is not touching me-some areas of me are more aware and sensitive to it than others)

NO stretching NO NO NO.
Let it heal completely first.
If it is torn it could snap if you stretch it.

I think it woyld have to be pretty crazy a tear to snap it with stretching but yeah stretching and damaged area isn't wise (can anyone think of exceptions?)

I think there can be a time and place for extreamly light stretching. I htink the idea is putting it in and extended position but not actually 'stretching'. I think there are applications for that..

When I'm not so sure..

Cool. Chinese med is under rated in the West I think. That said there are those that get results and those that don't everywhere.

I think that approach would be a good try for sure!!

Enjoy the experience!

I defo recommend going to a good physio. I thought I had achilles problem cos had all the symptoms. However it was hip problem with siatica? the achilles was inflamed cos if muscle areas pulling wrong way you can get the effects at the end of line. In this case calf and ankle attachments.
