This has been bugging me for a while and may turn out to be a silly question (if there is such a thing) but.............. Why is the use of Saunas advocated over stream rooms for weight cutting?
I have done some research but not really found anything significant.
A steam room is cooler but still makes you sweat, some indicate faster.
I find the conditions of the steam room much easier to deal with (ok when cutting weight this isn’t of greatest concern) and for the short/healthly stint feel far better than when using a sauna.
My thinking is that a sauna continues to make you sweat somewhat more than a steam after your body doesn’t want to?
or is it just a case of always done, always do?

Nice - I am curious what info there is out there.
The only reason prefer sauna generally (not cutting weight) is I don't want to breath in the steam with all the chemicals they put in our water in these parts.
Anyone got anything?

the only thing I can think of that I've heard that is sort of similar is not sweating in water....
I would imagine the best thing to do would be to try both, timed and jump on a scale.
In my book, Infra-Red sauna is the win.

I've cut weight many times in Sauna and a few times in Steamroom and prefer Sauna 10X over Steamroom:
Its much harder to breath in the Steamroom
The type of heat in the steam room burns the skin after a while and is not only annoying but also exhausting and suffocating
Somehow it seems to take so much longer to lose weight in a steam room
And I bet part of the issue is that one is forced to step out of the Steamroom much more frequently than in the case of Saunas, due to the heat and lack of air. I imagine this lowers body temperature and hinders sweating

I personaly find the steam more bearable from a breathing perspective but if the steamroom is hotter then surely you are gonna sweat more even if you have to "step out"?
I also feel less "drained" after steam, thats why I was wondering if there was any "science" out there to back either method up.

There both really hot lol i tried both one after the other tryin to make 56 from like 63+ and i personally i prefered to sit in the sauna more and in the sweat room i could shadow box more and do movement and not get taken under by the heat lol.After the steam room tho i had to dive in the pool os id melt i reckon.
Salt baths really do work for cutting weight..but again , a roasting salt bath is draining

I think that the air is much less saturated with moisture in a sauna, so your body is able release a larger amount of fluid.
This may sound a bit geeky but...if the humidity percentage is higher for the atmosphere in a steamroom, then more sweat will just sit on your skin without evaporating (which is a method the body uses to cool down). In a sauna, the sweat will be able to flow out of your body quicker as it is evaporated more efficiently. Possibly :)

But a lot of guys wear a "sauna suit" in the sauna too!!? So water is still sat on skin?
SURELY THE ANSWER IS THAT WHEN U GO INTO THE SAUNA ITS A DRY HEAT WHICH MAKES YOU SWEAT MORE(ESP IF YOU DONT SHOWER B4 ENTERING) IF U WALK INTO THE STEAM ROOM THE STEAM IN THE AIR LANDS ON UR SKIN CAUSING MOISTURE TO SPREAD OVER OUR SKIN SURFACE MAKING IT A LONGER TIME PERIOD B4 U START SWEATING! IF YOU WALK INTO SAUNA WITHOUT HAVING A SHOWER THE DRY HEAT MAKES YOU SWEAT REALY FAST!

I agree, although I feel like I sweat more in a steam room...... and you still sweat when you swim!!!??
I asked as I couldnt find any scientific basis or research.
Maybe I'll just test myself as a project!! :-(
I take a Sauna at least 5 times a week !!! LOL
The guy in the local sauna club wets the stones evyr hour and rings a bell first - the place gets packed and he has different themes where he mixes different fruit schnapps or vodka or whisky - man it nearly blows your head off !!
