Dirk who won with his bouts with Kieth Nathan and Robert Paturel.
I remember seeing an old tape of him and Rob Kaman when they fought in America,as I recall they both won their fights.I remember thinking that Fred Royers looked more like a school professor them a fighter.
Great photos.

Hi Dirk,Great nostelgic photos,it's refreshing to see that Fred obviously had a true warrior spirit and competed in so many different codes of fighting ,karate, savate, full contact and Thai,it shows a man who truely has an open mind and can adapt his style to suit.
Rob Kaman,Ramon Dekkers,Andre Brilleman,Ivan Hippolyte,Gilbert Ballentinie,Peter Smit,Tommy v/d Berg and Fred Royers,to me those fighters are the ones one really lead the world and paved the way to the new generation of fighters.
In that last photo who is the other fighter kicking?

Watching the above fighters compete on video is timeless.

Dirk, you should add a section on your website for Fred Royers.

Do you think the modern fighters are as good and who do you think really stands out in Holland today?

the other fighter is ivan sprang from vos gym,he fought benny urquidez in benny his only fight in holland.well,i think that those days never coming back, the team of mejiro gym with kaman, royers, brilleman, yamali,el geubli and carbin was magnificent!!!now,at the moment,we have some good in the middleweight, albert kraus, joeri mes, ashwin balrak, perry ubeda, rayen simson, drago, najim all are great fighters and we have remy bonjaski as the brandnew k-1 champ.

hi dirk,

as far as i remember his first fight was against tuncay coban...fred was directly taken to the top of a-class due to his big performance in karate...(at that times it was so...) and he has beaten tuncay...(especialy with his sweeps...)

was his nickname "gladiator" since he has tested all disciplines (karate,kb,mt,fc, savate)?...

cheers.
