Are there any rings on the market that are easy to assemble (and collapse).
I am sure there will be plenty of gyms that rent a hall and spend a good few minutes at the start of every class setting up….BUT lack a ring.

I was wondering if there are any collapsible/scissor-action type rings that will be quick and easy to put up.
I was thinking about having the four corner posts and scissor-type arrangement between each post that can expand out to mark out the edges of a ring (as opposed to ropes)….

It obviously wont be load-bearing, allowing people to lean and bounce off the ropes (possibly a good thing!)

It would be adjustable to construct larger and smaller style rings…maybe different size cross-braces from corner to corner.

Having a ring arrangement like this would mean that it would be cheap and easy to have a thaiboxing gym at every village hall in the country….

Have ring and gloves, will travel!!!!!

Alternatively, as cost will be a big deciding factor, how much is a second hand boxing ring? :)

protec do a cage ring which takes about 10mins to build for about £1000,they are quality and will take 2 heavyweights bouncing off the ropes easily,i will try and attach a picture but dont hold your breath!

Protec do a cage ring, but please look else where for a supplier.

Long story, happy ending... with loads of grief in the middle.... over several months.

Mike Duffy does, or can build you one, custom, about same price.

Ours is 18ft inside rope, about 19ft or so outside.

I think in the end it cost me about £1250 (matting not included) or so,

the matting was bought seperate, so that we could use the matting when the ring wasnt being used.

Made a little bit of a mistake with the matting, the (9) red squares cost me about £300, and then the (16) green cost less, about £290. Two differenet suppliers, one cheap. one not so cheap. Homework, homework, homework.

On a separate note..... the brackets you have your heavy bags hanging from -- do you have to tighten those every so often? We have those brackets in our gym and a couple of them have had to be repositioned and we constantly have to tighten them. Just wondering....

Not really...

the brackets are those cheap ones from Blits sport (utter home stuff)..

However they have been reinforced 3 times over the last 4 years, due to heavy weights trying to tie them into new shapes.

We have raw plug bolts (?) holding them in place, the only time I had to move one is when one of my polish lads tried to pull it off the wall. Big hole, lot of mess, but now sorted.

Again I would suggest Mike Duffy, for he has a new range of heavy duty brackets... not yet tested them, but he knows his stuff.

a&d sports are the biggest ring supply company in the UK supplying many of the companies with rings including title. The guys name is Darren Golding and his contact tel number is 01706 377725. Their rings are all powder coated and go together with drop slot bolts very easily.

Mike duffy on 0161 622 0999 is another option and makes the rings himself. The corner posts etc are much thicker but the ring is spray painted as oppose to powder coated. As far as protec are concerned I used to have a protec ring but had some serious problems with it. I know they do a ring that can be assembled quickly by the use of an outdoor frame and Lorne Castle has one in his gym like the picture shown there number is 01706 852299. Many of the manufactures will make what you want and you should expect to pay between 1k and 2k for it. Most of them will be ground floor rings if you want quick asembly with a frame to support it. Some of the 1ft base rings are an option but they will take about 1hr to assemble and thats after hours of practice

An option worth considering (depending upon the size of the room) is to drill eye bolts into the walls and suspend the rope restrainers and ropes from them. I tried this at our old petts wood gym and is served its purpose well for a few years. I got the idea from Mejiro gym in Holland. Sean Tommey had a good set up down in Dartford where he used to be where the posts were dropped into holes in the floor about 1ft down and afterwards the holes filled with plugs. Mike Duffy would be up for making anything that worked really and is not that far away to discuss options and has a workshop on site!!!. My advice would be to play with the options and have one made to your spec as oppose to one already made. Incidentally the rope restrainers and ropes can be brought very cheaply from any Yacht chandlers and will be considerably cheaper. Hope thats helpful.

The rings from A&D come with crap underlay and after about 6 months it starts to crease underneath and lift the canvas. it's like walking on a cushion of air and for the cost of the ring this is a dissapointing part of it.

Bag brackets always bug me!!! People always always try to go for the cheapest option!! I get people ringing me all the time asking me do we do any cheaper brackets!!! What support, safety and durabilty do people think a 10 or 15 quid bracket offers? You buy a bag for 50 quid plus and then find the cheapest bracket to hang it on!!! Never understood the logic of that.

I have a collection of shot guns and long range hunting rifles (All licensed) . Can you imagining then going buying the worst storage cabinet or bullets or cartridges to use it with.

Same with these people with 10k motor cycles and a £50 helmet. Makes me LMAO

Plus after all when I hit a bag I want to hit it move round it and use it like it should be not have to keep looking up to see if said bracket is going to deposit ones bag on ones head!!

Come on Nigel, we all know if you've hit the bag you haven't got the energy to move around it! lol (only joking big lad)

agreed the underlay completely puckers up with the a&d rings as it is some yellow foam stuff that gets big crater ridges in it.When this happened I used reebok mats that are not too soft and not too hard from argos of all places! they are ten quid for 1.2sq m and you can cover the floor for about 150 quid in a surface that is near on perfect with a canvas on top.I found that the inch thick mats provided too much bounce, ordinary underlay wasnt good enough but the reebok mats were superb. They even sell the same thing in early learning centre in packs of 4 for a tenner. They are the same as the reebok mats (same company) and if you wanna have extra thickness just buy two lots and double up. They have been the perfect solution for me. The lonsdale rings come with real underlay but they provide quite a hard surface. The lonsdale rings like Mike duffy's are made from thicker steel and the posts are bigger but they are spray painted as oppose to powder coated. Apart from the floor isuue the a & d ones arent bad and they go together quite easy. I thought the protec ones had to many problems but that was a long time ago.
