Sore Knuckles ...

So after 3 weeks of solid training in China (4 weeks ago), I have a problem.

By the end of the training trip the knuckles of my index and middle fingers on my left hand were really hurting. The pain goes away when not training, but about 1/2 an hour into training it'll really start to hurt to the point I can't use my left hand any more. No swelling or anything visible.

Went to physio today and after doing various tests they were pretty stumped. Felt no pain with any of their exercises, it just happens after I start hitting the pads.

Been like this for about 4 weeks now, and I've stopped training for just over a week.
Anyone able to shed some light on how to help? I know it's quite vague but I'm hoping for something.

are you wearing the same gloves each time you train/hit bags/pads etc. As it may be your gloves, i had this problem as it knacked hitting pads especially with the left hook, i used different gloves and now am ok. maybe the padding on the knuckles has gone, or mishapen to provide less protection or even add stress to the knuckles.
might not be this but thought i would offer a thought..

Have you tried padding up the knuckles a bit when you wrap your hands? Or wearing 12oz gloves when you train? I do both of those and it helps alot

You should see a hand physio as this is a specialist area and not all physiotherapists have indepth knowledge of the hand, the injuries and treatments, you may have ligament, tendon or soft tissue damage. If you are still struggling with the injury you can email me direct with your symptoms and I will send you some further advice.

I'm with Marriane on this, I had a problem and changed my gloves to cure it. Some of the thai gloves are shaped a lot differntly to other makes. I brought some 12oz title boxing gloves and they are flatter on the front.

If you cet some foam over the knuckles, cut a hole out over the 2 knuckles that hurt. Just cut a hole in but leave the rest of the foam. This will take the pressure off.

This as also worked in the past.

Cheers for all the help.

I'm pretty sure it was just the gloves. The injury lasted a good many weeks later but I've changed gloves and am feeling fine now.

Had bruised knuckles for about 6n months a few years back... had to shadow box for a long long time (was doing straight boxing at the time).

I tried padding my knuckles many different ways (good thing to try and if it works great) but mine were too bruised. I started hitting harder than my body was ready for I think...

This might be a possibility and a good way to look at it. When you see it as a negative the body will not respond as well to thinking it as a positive or normal and ok... body is talking to you... the more we listen the more we can work with it.

Traumeal - topical and internal
Massage
EFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

General rule with pain.
If the pain doesn't increase with training it is ok to train. If it hurts more when hitting - simply don't hit if at all possible.

Make sure you are getting omega 3s as an imbalance between 3's and 6's promotes inflammation...

ginger is good for pain

basics like water, food and sleep are huge in any healing

If doc says they don't know - go find someone who does - there are always things you can do and there ARE ways to heal and deal with pain. Find someone that knows what they are talking about and that can get results. Results talk!!!

Good luck
