De La Hoya vs Pacquiao.

Looks like Goldenboy are lining this up as De La Hoyas farewell fight. What are peoples thoughts?

thats crazy, i like both guys but its very one sided match making. a shame if pac takes it as he will get hurt.

whats the fuckin point in a feather weight fighting a middle weight...ridiculous

I think he can do it Pac man reason being pace for one,he lasts longer than De la hoya, plus Oscar don,t do so well v Southpaws i thought Pernell beat although close sweetpea was old also, speed kills x

I think Oscars blatantly going for easy pickings. Even Pacquiao said a while back when it was first mooted that he would want a lot of money as he could get really hurt in a fight like this!

To be fair tho Oscar didn't do anything special with Steve Forbes whose a much smaller man with less fire power than Manny...but even forbes is bigger than pacquiao. Very strange match up for me. If it ends up looking like a miss match De La Hoya will lose a lot of respect imo. And does he wan to go out like that?

Or are they hoping that the HBO 24/7 programmes will be able to convince us that Manny is a real threat and this is a pick em fight?

Its all about the money...

Manny is now billed as the best £4£'er in the world now that $$$mayweather has retired. So to retire by beating the best £4£'er, would be a good finish from a promotions perspective..... thats how it will go down in history.
It will only be in the fine-print that there was 4-weight catagories between them!!!!

its a lose lose situation no-one will care if hes pound for pound best it will be simply a victory over a much smaller man and the exact opposite if he loses....no-one would care if yodsanklai beat saenchai would they?
Liam R
Posted: 2008-07-23 08:00:28
nope but id like to see it, i reckon yod too slow would be funny tho
paulinthailand
Posted: 2008-07-23 22:29:54
yod would ko seanchai, too strong for a much smaller man
Liam R

I agree with Liam this is lose lose for De La Hoya and i don't believe anyone in their right mind would make him P4P #1 if he won. Pacquiao would probably drop a few places but would still be ranked above de la hoya in the p4p rankings as at their respective weights Pac is still a better fighter than de la hoya at present and a big guy beating a little guy doesn't change that.

Pac man to win "if" it happens De la hoya is bigger yes, slower, older and hates southpaws too and he is as if not faster than PBF if it happens am going to Liams to get bladdered...won,t watch the fight but any excuse x

De la hoya don,t beat AM no his stamina later on is suspect,Pac man wins am certain of it x
vinny
Posted: 2008-07-27 03:17:25
Reasons why (guess whose excited) De la hoya don,t like southpaws finds hard to land left hook,he is a left handed orthadox fighter he has no right hand to speak really, movement, he has not got the pressure fighter type footwork to cut ring down, pac man zips in and out and about plus the key is Roache he firmly believes in his little guy and he did train DLH for PBF,think about it apart from money why would they want it as there a big pay days at lightwelter and lightweight?
Whittaker frustrated DLH at 34 its ten years since or something now thats difference x x

Smart money says Pacquiao will beat Hatton.
That said, smart money would also have said that De la Hoya would beat Pacquiao.
Can't ever be 100% sure.
Still, it'll be a decent fight and make them both fucking millions, lets be honest, for that kind of cash I'd take a pop at the pair of them.

I'd love Hatton to win because he's a proper ordinary bloke, can't see it though.
