First Fight

Hi All,

I'm new here, so please " take it easy on me " lol

I have my first ring fight in about a months time, I've done tons of light-con but never fought in a ring full contact.

I was a reserve for a fight and the guys pulled out with an injury, so I've stepped up and said I'd take his place.

I've been training but if there anything specific I should be doing now on the run up to the fight? As I understand full contact is very different to light-con, so was hoping to get some tips/help from anyone?

Thank you in advance :-)

Let go of your "moves" and fight.

In training you work on your moves to a degree but there is a transition into knowing you know what you know and letting go and letting it flow.

Don't know if that makes any sense.

Ask your trainer. He'll know where you're at best and therefore what direction to go or work on.

Thats my opinion anyway.

Mental in training - its huge I think to stop worrying about getting hit in terms of "shit I got hit, I screwed up"... you WILL get hit. Focus on doing you're thing regardless of getting hit or being ahead or behind. When you are hit there has been a question asked. That question is "are you here to fight, can you take what you just got?" The answer is "no" if you don't answer back to you and to him at least subconsciously (and to Thai style judges). If your answer is to "answer back" to hit back, regardless if it lands as well or clean then you have said to your subconscious and to his and to Thai judges (if it is a Thai fight with Thai style judging) that "Yes! I am here to fight and still fighting"

Even if judging is more western or kickboxing you are still sending a strong msg to your mind and to your opponents that when he hits you he is going to get hit and that keeps you in it much better I think.

-Thai judging (it may not be and it is worth considering the game you are playing and the rules/judging or said game) judges effectiveness largely on the ability of the fighter to fight. If a fighter gets hit, backs off or can't answer then he has shown his ability to fight has been compromised and the opponent will get a igger "score".

If you get rocked yet return right away, even if it defended, the msg sent is I can still fight, right now!, and therefore the opponent will get a smaller score.

Regardless of judging style this sends a huge msg to the subconscious of both fighters in my opinion as that IS a huge gage of what is going on in the moment in my opinion.

Rock on and have some fun.

Think of it as a right of passage, a test, a test to yoU're self!!! You are testing yoU're self, not your opponent in my opinion.

Thank you very much, its a kickboxing fight.

I have an understanding of what your saying and I've been training with the guys who fight full contact, so I'm hoping this has helped me :-s

Someone said to always be busy and scoring good points and dont get into a messy fight?

I take it that means dont brawl with the person?

Your coach should provide you with all advice, assistance and preperation required in the run up to, during and after a fight. Ask him/her.
