My opinion is that Shogun had a bad gameplan for handling Jones being on top. As soon as Jones got top position, Shogun used only one single technique over and over to try to sweep (reverse) Jones. Jones countered that and Shogun was worn out very quickly from that effort. When he finally got back up, he was nearly a sitting duck.

If Shogun had some more techniques to work with off his back, that might have changed the fight, or at least given Shogun a fighting chance.

i sometimes wonder how fit some of these guys are. i know the grapplin game can sap your energy but its not uncommon to see these guys gassed towards the end of the 3rd. either way i think bones jones is a excellent fighte. who do you think he will fight next brian? i dont know of anyone in that weight catagory who would give him a run for his money?

'Bones' Jones' main weapon is his versatility and ability to execute techniques that are not only fairly uncommon in mma, but he does them from strange angles.

To me he is very much another Anderson Silva, and i predict a long fight career ahead of him.

As for Shogun - yes he was made to look very average. Maybe a bad fight for him? Maybe his fitness?? Either way he just couldn't handle to wiry style of Jones or his style.

Jones is Fighting Rashad Evenas Next

As long as he stays focused he will keep the titls

His Muay Thai Striking Coach is Kru Phil Nurse.

Jones has many years of experience as a collegiante wrestler

has only beed doing mma for 3yeares and taught himself striking
crazy spinning abck kick and spining elbow,

phil nurse has helped him perfect them and be more fluid with movement

jones has the longest reach i ufc. 84inches! shogun couldnt get past that or jones superior grappling

Some people are saying Machida has a good style to counter Jones. He's explosive enough to bridge the distance and he has decent enough takedown defense. It's a possibility. We still don't really know how good Jones' chin is. I only saw him get hit once in the face by Shogun in their fight.

Rashad has some similarities to Machida with movement but not quite as as good in striking, but has better wrestling than Machida. If he could get Jones down, or if he somehow explodes past Jones' reach and his the chin, then he might have a chance.

I don't believe Jones' striking is the best. He uses his reach pretty well, but he mainly wears guys out after dominating them with wrestling and beating them up on the ground. I see openings in his striking game. If it were a straight up Muay Thai match, I think Shogun would have won against him.

Anderson Silva would be an interesting match. He could pick Jones apart on their feet, but he would absolutely get taken down by Jones. I don't think Anderson's BJJ is good enough to defeat Jones on the ground.

The guy to beat Jones probably is a guy who isn't even in the UFC yet. It's probably a guy with either a wrestling or BJJ base (that is better than Jones). Roger Gracie is an up-and-coming light heavyweight who is amazing in BJJ and he is 6'4". He's 4-0 in MMA with 4 submissions. He's 29 so he has some time to gain more experience and improve his MMA befoer getting in the UFC.

3 days after the fight, Shogun talks about the fight.

--
“I’m just bummed out,” he lamented over the telephone with Renzo Gracie, while the fourteen pairs spread out over the grey practice area worked on a rib-kick defense the star taught moments earlier.

“He hits hard, I took a knee shot early on and was out of it the whole fight,” he explained.

Here's the knee shot
