more and more heading that way - thats where the money is! And unlike a lot of other so called "combat" sporta out there, the stuff trained for thia and k1 translates directly to what they'll need striking wise in the MMA ring.

GSP more or less won his last fight with a left jab - Joe Rogan raved about it during and after the fight.

Thaiboxing for life!!

I have no desire to do MMA, I think the attitude of most (not all) in this field poorly represents a "martial artist". Although the UFC is doing a good job gaining the interst of the rest of the world. I also feel the quality of muay thai events worldwide is on the up as well!

"" Joe Rogan raved about it during and after the fight""

he didn't shut about it did he! The jab is under used in MMA. GSP Along with Miguel Torres and Anderson Silva use it really effectively.

i like all styles of fighting, but nearly every time i attend a mma/boxing/fc fight night the audiences are complete tools.i know the money is in mma now,but are the thugs back in?
booing, threats because your fighter happened to win, chanting who are ya is all crap.
their friend/family/boyfriend would not have a fight if it were not for the other fighter so why the abuse?

thaiboxing shows just dont bring the same attitudes, having travelled around to a hell of a lot of shows and at many different areas of the uk,i have never seen a kick off at a thai show, yet repeatedly seen it at the others.
coincidence?

I have to agree nathan, there's a fair few attitudes kickin around at the average MMA show.

definitely, the UCMMA shows at the Troxy is like a bald headed steriod users convention!

I love MMA and watch as much MMA as I do Thai these days, but will always prefer MT.

I know GSP's jab was very good but Josh had no head movement what's so ever, It was pathetic, it's easy to hit something not moving directly in front of you.

I think MMA is now appealing to the more rougher element. There's no way to say it nicely so why sugar coat it but mma is the new thug's sport... At one time you'd get the local hard lads all wanting to box so they could learn to knock people out, nowadays they are taking up mma and going around calling themselves 'cage fighters'..... Obviously not all mma practitioners are thugs it's just that a lot of that element are turning to taking up mma.

I've never seen it kick off once at a kickboxing show, yet i have several times at mma and boxing events. Cant comment on Thai as never been to a local one yet.

i had my 1st cage fight last week,

i beat the shit out a budgie LMFAO

I hate it when they call it cage fighting.

I love MMA and becuase of MMA i found Muay Thai and i fucking love Muay Thai,

Not realy into k1 as the rules dont benefit a Thai Fighter

I would have too agree, the attitudes different in mma and boxing more wannabe thugs and weekend warriors

i had my 1st white collar boxing match in Brighton in 2009
the crowd where young rowdy and racist, loads of football hooligan chants, it all stopped when i dropped there boy in the 2nd round, was probably the scariest experience i had ever had.

had my 1st mma (Cage fight)the same year, alot of backwater country boys, so inbred they couldnt even be get a racial slur correct, i had shaved head and a big beard and sum twat shouted get the paki...
lmfao i lost to there guy but the respect i got after was kinda cool,

i have fought at several other boxing shows and the crowd have been ok

but i must say the thai crowds are the best, they apreciate the fighters and the balls it takes to get in the ring and are just alot more respectful

i must admit before i started fighting i was teh prick shouting fucking smash him, rip his head off.

when i wanst not drinking and i was the guy fighting next i realised what a mindless moron i was, its all good cheering ya mate on but the bs and that should be left at the door,

most the people that kick off at these events have probably never been to a boxing mma or MT gym.

MMA is here to stay but its a good thing for thai boxing, surely other gyms have noticed an increase in the size of their thai boxing classes in the last few years and a lot of that is down to MMA. i used to really dislike MMA, i still think that there are some really overpaid average MMA fighters but the more i learn about it the more i appreciate it as a sport.
one of the reasons its progressing at such a fast rate is because people of any style are now trying it. All the people that just do BJJ (and there are a lot of BJJ gyms nationwide/worldwide) all want to have a crack because they think they can just hold their luck till it goes to the floor. People that just do TKD/Karate/Kung Fu/JKD/Wing Chun/kickboxing/thai boxing etc etc have a crack at it coz they hope they can keep it standing then of course there are all the people that do BJJ and all the above arts that also cross-train everything (stand up/ground etc) specifically so that they can compete in MMA.
its massively versatile and appeals to a lot of different sports and arts.
of course as it starts to even out now, we can see what does make a proficient MMA fighter and that is more often than not someone who combines and adapts good Muay Thai skills with good BJJ/Wrestling/grappling and good take downs/td defence.
thats not to say a good boxer wouldnt do well just boxing, or a good kicker just kicking or a good wrestler just wrestling, but 9 times out of 10 its the combination of a superior stand up (thai/k1) with superior ground skills.

i understand the whole crowd thing at shows and it definitly does attract some gimps but i dont think its that uncommon to other shows, its just different to thai boxing shows where you dont really get dickheads in the crowd. but thai is pretty much an exception there.

personally i have noticed quite a few ex-rugby players training MMA. They take to it very well.

my attitude towards MMA changes for the better every time we have someone fighting, when i see how hard they train and just how much they have to incorperate into their training. i have a lot more respect for it now than i used to.
