The SSJ Dojo based in Milton Keynes are specialising in the art of J-MMA, what is J-MMA? It's the Japanese variant of MMA with a slightly different rule set to the NSAC Unified rules.
As most will know, my roots have always been based in Japan after I completed my 'Uchi Deshi' in 1996 at the Maeda Dojo in Yokohama then a seven year fight contract as a 'Shooter' in Japan for the Fighting Network Rings organisation. I have fought and sent fighters to various J-MMA groups such as Rings, K1, ZST and Shootboxing.
With the return of the Fighting Network Rings in 2012 I have been reappointed as the UK President for Rings UK, so this is a great opportunity to expand the UK fighter database in Japan. I will be heavily involved with sending UK fighters to Japan and running J-MMA training sessions at the SSJ Dojo in MK. In March three UK based fighters will appear in on two J-MMA promotions, Ben Abbott on Rings and Rob McCrum and Dean Riley on the ZST grapple centric promotion.
Although Japan suffered the loss of Pride FC and various other promotions, J-MMA is being revived with smaller events in 2012.
I will be in Japan for most of March with UK fighters and training at the J-MMA dojos learning new crazy submissions to bring back to the UK. Osu!
