Buakao retires
after a second meeting with the sports authority of Thailand, Buakao and Por Pramuk, neither side were able to come to an agreement, so Buakao announced to the press that he is retiring from the sport

That's a shame. Is there any limitation on his non-competition clause? ie could he come back in a years time or live and fight abroad?

not sure about fighting abroad, but living abroad wouldn't be a problem. would think he would only be able to fight again once his current contract runs out and don't know how many years left on that

Get him states-side coaching and seminar circuit for UFC/K1/Muay Thai he could make a good living out of that, or is that easier said than done (Visas etc)?

Standard rich people sticking it to the poorer people of thailand. All that saving face stuff really pisses me off.

Get him to Brazil or the US, teach him groundwork and fire him in the UFC late next year! I'm sure it says nothing on his contract about mixed martial arts!

I don't think the lad would need much work on groundwork lol, with his striking he could probably do pretty well without it ;)

Didn't Pramuk ruin Namsaknoi in the same way?

What a waste!

True Craig but he'd deffs need it as a back up, although hed waste all UFC lightweights standing up.

Yes, they did the same to Namsaknoi and he's now in Singapore. We have had a few of the thai guys training in MMA for One FC here in Singapore ie Yodsanan, Orono Vor Petchpun(going to). So I am not convinced that it would be anything like an easy transition for Buakaw to move to MMA, as soon as a wrestler or BJJ guys see's its a thai fighter they take them down and make short work of them. Yodsanan has been training in BJJ for the last 2 years and a chinese fighter took him down and choked him out without any trouble.
I would think Buakaw would be able to move abroad and fight Thai and K1, the contract he has in thailand wouldn't stand up in the US and Europe based on restraint of trade. You cant get away with a 8 year contract on an individual just look at the bosman ruling in football.

........."Buakao"????

...thought that was the Japanese word for the 'fetish' of mass jizzing on a willing birds face????

I agree with TK on the Buakaw MMA thing. He wouldnt stand much of a chance to be honest. It would take him well too long to learn the ground game to a competant enough level to compete at the higher, better paying echelons of MMA.Maybe a few pay days in Japan etc but not a decent career.Could he still fight Shooto etc or does his contract stipulate all styles of fighting or just muay thai/K1?

As a partner of an international professional servics business we should remember that the basic tenants of international law are;
1. To force someone out of a job/ career or in this case a xocation and stop them earning and feeding himself and his family is legally wrong. It is known as CONSTRUCTIVE DISMISSAL which is contrary to law, even in Thailand.

2. The second element is his contract includes a RESTRICTIVE PRACTICE COVENANT which again means that he has to stop working in a job that he has "specialist skills" to do and to go into a new job where there will be a ramp up period before he reacheshis current level of remuneration.

Based on this my attitude would be SCREW YOU AND CARRY ON DOING WHAT HE EXCELLS AT, GO FELLA and if the other party threatens to sue refer them to us as we have experience of Thailand, which is where I got into the sport although are skills aren't up to theirs but that's because ours is a hobby and not a way of life. If it was we would be changing our surname to that of our respective gyms.

Hope this helps. Choke Di
