Topic:Why Do We Make Excuses For Thais?
HAWKMAN

Why do we make excuses for thais?

Whether it is ineptitude or stupidity or plain dumbass dangerous childish bechaviour, price rigging, ripoffs, inorance, discriminating against non thais,"borrowing" money, murdering tourists, fucking their own country up and blaming everyone else, we always seem to let them off cos they're "Thai".

Why does this not apply to , say , the French? We castigate the French for being French specifically because they are French.

When you say we you mean the Thai Boxing community?
Most other don't excuse the blatant ripping off of Europeans on holiday and the general shite behaviour of a sizeable minority of Thais.

The reason it is accepted by certain members of the Thai boxing community (some of whom always moan about British society) is coz they are not very smart and inconsistent

Also plenty of trainers over here pay for their own trips to Thailand by organising trips for their students.

It wouldnt help sell these trips to their students if their assessment of how Thais treat us was more accurate

and ok if Thailand was that bad why so many tourists go there???? lol
It was and probably still is 1 of the Best places on Earth but Westernisation (Brits Yanks and Ozzys and Eurpoeans /aka Farangs have Funched it up)
my mate who i introduced to Thailand about 10 years ago and has a Thai Home there too said to me last year
"sandyman, enjoy it while it lasts as i feel in the next 5 years it will be ruined"

i think hes right :-(

phuket was lovely just after the tsunami. i mean not just after but for about 2 years after. of course the thais got greedy and ruined their country.
apart from that Phuket is full of tuk tuk drivers attacking tourists.

the arrogance of some people there in respect of falang ,well its a total contradiction - they charge us more cos we are richer yet claim they are a more superior society. they dislike us cos we are dirty and not thai yet they all want to be white, look at all these whitening cream adverts.

i formed a judgement of thailand and thais back in 1995; i thought i was wrong but gradually they have proved me right.
In fact most of SE Asia i am realising is a shit-hole. Let teh Russians and Chinese have it all.

i love it here, and if you dont go some where else, just like the rest of the world they wanna make money, like the rest of the world in whatever way they can

for me it is only being spoiled by too many farangs coming here

i"d stroll through bangkok at 2 in the morning any day of the week, but not liverpool , manchester, birmingham no way

HAWKMAN
Posted: 2012-10-10 22:30:58
bangkok yes. eveyrwhere else is pretty fcked now though. bangkok has a vibe in it its one of those places that makes you realise that 24 hours is not enough in a day.
as opposed to Singapore where i live, where there are at least 8 ours too many in a day (those which i spend in the office) and about 3 million too many people.

Thailand wouldnt be my relaxing holiday destination of choice. i go there to train, simple as that.
The Thai's are no different to any other country, always people willing to take the piss, rip you off, get what they can. they are just more upfront about it.
no different at all to people in any other country. they all just go about it in different ways.
we rip them off too, we pay fuck all for training (mostly) with people there who have way more experience than anyone back home. why do top a-class fighters still go out to thailand and train? coz they know even now, it still ups their game.

i have had some shit times over the years in thailand, getting robbed, being stuck on an island with problems with our bank card not bein able to get money out, down to last 60baht and not one single thai letting us use their phone to ring our bank unless we gave them 200baht. crazy thai women just being radgy and all the problems we have ever had have been on koh samui! never had the same shit in bangkok coz it is what it is.

you know what to expect here, we all know what the thais can be like, but i know just as many scammers back home that are much worse.

good and bad everywhere. fortunately training here makes it worth it and as far as you can ever trust a thai i got some good thai friends who i love and enjoy being with. so its worth it.

fair points Marriane and yes
Bigger Rip offs here its called the Taxing Goverment
the 1 and only thing a taxman cannot tax (at the moment)
is fresh air
as everyother thing and commodity is !

as my Brothers best mate profoundly said a few years back

We are taxed on Everything except AIR, until the Gov: Find a way to fix a tank onto our back !!! :-(( and if they could they would !!
HAWKMAN
Posted: 2012-10-12 20:38:14
you are taxed on air Sandy indirectly, carbon credit trading is a way of permitting certain levels of pollution and the cost will be factored back in to the consumer one way or another
Dizzle

What is the relevance of tax? is the tax system fairer in Thailand?
HAWKMAN
Posted: 2012-10-13 11:50:05
i think income tax is around 20 odd percent ? so when youre earning fuck all and then losing a fifth of it, it must be an incentive to rob and rip off falangs. or give a load of it to a temple, stick all those 1000 baht notes ona tree so that you dont come back in your next life as a soi dog and so that the monks can all have a nice mobile phone.

people that dont see this are blind. thai people do live very day to day and are terrible with money. they are kind hearted and often simple living. there is a massive gulf between our culture and theirs, we are not great they are not greater! atleast we can turn up to things on time. everything thai is so slack! i love the place but its not the thais i love its the cheap living, great weather and beautiful views. i would love thailand if it was any race that lived there!

In the 1550's watch was recorded as a period of time, to keep "watch" a lookout for the enemy. The watch was divided up into sections.

That perhaps explains watch, other than it's other meaning to observe.

ive been walking round with a sundial on my arm

but its not just observe, its to focus on an action eg "look at that c*** over there" - look can be a cursory glance

"watch what he is doing" - observe and attempt to comprehend the process of his motives and actions.

i dont watch my watch , i look at it. Do you see what i mean?

The way thai's behave isn't much different to any other country where the general population don't earn anywhere near as much as the visitors to their country. It happens all over South east asia, the middle east, central & south america, caribbean etc. It might not be as obvious but it happens all over.

The problem in Thailand is a lot of tourist thnk it's okay to behave and do anyhing they want(Been guilty of it myself) that beaviour is partly brought about by the thai's encouraging that sort of tourist. As funny as the Hangover 2 is, imagine watching that film having never been to thailand, you'd think it was the wild west out there where anything goes.

If the cost of holidays there increased by 50% you might attract a different sort of tourist.

i was about 17 when mick and trix first took me to Thailand ... LOVED the place so much so i went 4-5 times a year there after , stayed out there for months on end sometimes ...

i can see both sides of the story but for me it has changed so much for the worse ... ive spent a hell of a lot of time at Sityodtong and also in North pattaya .. but the place is as a few have said an absolute toilet now .

i was slated years ago on here for knocking the Thai 2 tier pricing system now its not 2 tier its multi tier they killing there own tourist economy .

a close friend of mine owns 1 of britain's biggest internet travel companies and some of the stats he's given me are shocking .

There loss

Is it all bad? we went in 2006 to Bangkok and Ko Samui and was great. We want to go again next for me to train and a holiday for my 50th,but not sure from what i keep seeing and hearing now.

We fancy either Hua Hin or Lamai beach(sinbi gym)Phuket.....

Posted: 2012-12-11 13:47:09
Its not all bad Chalky. I think we just spend so much time there through training, you spend enough time somewhere, anywhere in the world and you will notice just as many cons as pro's. Am pretty sure if everyone was travelling to America or anywhere else in the world and spending the amount of time there we spend in Thailand then it would be exactly the same, you would notice the shit points far more than if you went once or twice in your life for a holiday. The shit points in every part of the world will differ depending on where & the economy and the standard of life there, but they would be there nonetheless!

Posted: 2012-12-11 13:49:33
We live in a real world, not a fantasy! No one is forcing us with a gun to our heads to go there and train or holiday. If we choose to go then we have to also accept the place warts and all. Dont like it then dont go, pretty simple really!

Thanks Marianne,And very well said. You can go anywhere as you say and find faults/shit,We loved everything about Thailand when we went and can't see it being any different next year.

chalky - Lamai beach is in Ko Samui. Sinbi is near Nai Harn.

Hoenstly , i went in 2006 as well for 3 months and i ve been going back ever since, but over last 2 years or so didnt go to phuket much...went there for 2 weeks last sept and then 9 days this september- difference in a year was mindblowing. The traffic is insane, there were NO russians in 2006 now theyre everywhere, Kata is ruined, Chalong is ruined, eveyone and their dog has opened a gym or resort and spa or coffee shop or latex shop or massage or tattoo studio , i think even some of the gym owers can see how its about to go down the pan (especially with the planned road reworking coming up near Central mall to try and cope with the traffic- and that will be a 2-3 year job), and some of them moving to other locations... in short- overcrowding, overbuilding , overpriced (soe things are more expesnive than in Singapore) - you used to go to Phuket for the nice scenery and beaches. i will go to BKK anyday now over HKT.

Hawkman,Yep realised my mistake,I have been looking at that many gyms/places to go i got mixed up! LOL.
Even when we went in 06 if you looked for it,we could find fault and it seemed even back then the Thai's were catching on to prices...etc And realising how much we earn in UK. But we still loved it.
It does seem like MT Gyms are popping up everywhere now and hard to know which will be any good? It's a good way to make some money from westerners.
We still want to go and i'm sure it will be ok
