Signed Professional Match
Peter Arbeau (Canada) vs. Dejan Kajic (Canada)
Peter 'Let's Go' Arbeau
6 feet tall
Complete Fight Record 35 wins, 12 losses, 1 draw
No professional titles
Calgary athlete Peter Arbeau was originally matched against American Terris James who at the last moment decided to take a different fight. Now Arbeau squares off with professional MMA athlete Dejan Kajic who is trained by Jason Fenton. This bout is two weight divisions up with Arbeau now stepping in at 167 lbs. This is a professional match with Arbeau having more MuayThai experience but sporting a lot less professional fights compared to Kajic. The move to a higher weight and battling an athlete with far different dynamics puts a lot of stumbling blocks in front of Arbeau. The Calgarian from Mike Miles MuayThai has been training hard with Sokhim Or for this match. This will be one exciting match up for sure.

Quick results..
Miles D'Amuri started off very nice and technical. However towards the end of round one D'Amuri lunged into a huge right that put him down and out for the count and well beyond.

Bastian Wahby was a very close fight. Bastian pressed the fight through but single shot through most of the fight. Wahby counter fought. Bastian won the fight by decision.

Dawodu Gaines was an exciting bout. Both possessed nice skills. Round one Dawodu gave Gaines a standing 8. In the second Dawodu went on an elbow barrage and scored with multiple elbows creating a cut on Gaines left eye. Gaines fought back and pressed with deep jabs and teeps. In the third Dawodu threw Gaines to the ground giving Gaines a TKO. Good fight.

Arbeau did not fight so Calgary's Matt Krayco stepped in. He fought a great fight against Vancouver's Dejan Kajic. Kajic was to take the nod.

Max Carruthers really shone tonight in his bout against Kieran Mueller. These guys won the best in and out of town fighters on this event. Max looked 'Super' in the final round. Great fight.

Hope Quinn won a decision over Chaleur Daniels.

Viktor Vaigel won by first round Ko against Cody Evans.

John Nguyen won by deicison over Brian Chandler.

Challenger 7 - 'Heavy Duty' RESULTS
April 19, 2013 - Calgary, Canada
Promoted by Mike Miles

Canada's Contender MuayThai Series # 7 'Heavy Duty' is now in the history books. Completely sold out days before the event and featuring the first professional fights promoter Mike Miles has hosted in sixteen months.

The pre-fight meetings and the event itself ran very smoothly. "A big thank you to all the managers, coaches, and athletes for being so professional on this event," said Promoter Mike Miles. "Thank you to MuayFarang and Mr. Roberto Gallo Cassarino. Endless thank you's to Vince Gentile... he assisted me in so many times during this event! Thank you to the USA's Mr. David Huey. A thank you to my former student and friend Jason Fenton (always go to see him). Thank you to Leigh Mueller, and my former students Vanessa Bellegarde, Luis Cofre, and Chad Sawyer. Also a thank you to my student Albert Han."

The sponsors... without you events like this would never take place: Pure North S'Energy, Sprung Western Tent & Awning, Global Steel Ltd., Marmot Concrete, MacQuarie Private Wealth, the Calgary SUN (also for the two articles), DSL Innovative Food Equipment, PS Graphics, Daryl Rudichuk, Secure Energy Services, Evans-Fagan-McKay Criminal Defence Lawyers, Fekete, United Communities, the Travelodge Calgary South, Pacini, Bellegarde's Dragon MuayThai, Detolus Designs Ltd., Shannon Clements, Bowest Appliance Inc., Huvan Ltd., Kristine McLean, Fern's Entertainment, Pro-Action Piping Ltd., Donna Williams-Sutton Group Realtor, Christine Quinn, Sandler Training, and Business Instincts.

Though the event was completely sold out days in advance, that did not stop a huge queue of people from lining up on fight night hoping they could get their hands on tickets. Many long term fight fans were disappointed by leaving grabbing a ticket to the last moment.

Fight Results:

Main Event - Jesse Miles (Canada/Miles) vs. Giuseppe D'Amuri (Italy/Graziano)

5 Rounds of 3 Minutes Professional Full MuayThai - 165 lbs.

Having been out of the ring for over a year, everyone was wondering how Miles would deal with the ring rust. The bout he was to undertake looked very challenging to say the least. D'Amuri has had more fights than Miles and has also fought in the Glory fighting series in Italy. Glory is now the premiere stand up fighting organization in the world. D'Amuri was also six feet four inches tall to Miles five feet eight inches.

When the two met in the center of the ring it looked like the proverbial David vs. Goliath match up. Everyone did not know to expect when the bout started. D'Amuri started off by attempting a low line front leg cut kick. Miles deftly avoided the blow. D'Amuri pressured forward expecting Miles to move back but the Canadian did the opposite. He quickly countered with a few punches and fell into the clinch. Clinching under the arms Miles delivered a few knees to D'Amuri who responded by trying to drop an elbow on his opponent's head. Miles choked the arms and forced D'Amuri to the ropes where the referee then broke the two up and brought them back to the center of the ring. From there D'Amuri attempted a roundhouse kick to Miles body who in turn avoided it. Miles was to then counter with a very sharp cut kick which landed.

D'Amuri moved forward pressuring Miles back towards the Blue Corner. D'Amuri moved in to punch but Miles beat him to it with a very hard right hand that resounded throughout the whole venue. D'Amuri went down and hard. It was obvious D'Amuri was out and the bout was waved off. After the doctor came to the ring and started working on the Italian athlete, Miles was allowed to go back to his corner for a congratulatory hug. However, Miles, his corner, and the audience were quiet as they all started showing concern for the Italian fighter. After what seemed like an eternity, D'Amuri finally came to, and was helped up and back to his corner by the Doctor and his corner people. He was to receive a huge round of applause as everyone expressed relief that he was not badly injured. Jesse Miles was to win this bout by 58 second KO. "I was worried about the size difference, but when the bell went to fight, Jesse looked extremely calm and focused. He was controlling the distance the way I wanted. Truthfully I expected a tough five rounds for Jesse. It was too short as I would have liked the bout to go at least a few rounds to let Jesse get rid of his rust", said coach Mike Miles. "D'Amuri is a good fighter and just did not get a chance to provide the technical problems required for Jesse to solve." Communications have been incoming for Miles to possibly face Yodsenklai Fairtex in July 2013. "A few issues to negotiate," said coach Mike Miles.

Semi Main Event - Hakeem Dawodu (Canada/Miles) vs. Sheldon Gaines (USA/Huey)

5 Rounds of 3 Minutes Professional Full MuayThai - 140 lbs.

The pressure was on for Dawodu. Gaines had been up to Calgary in June 2012 and he defeated Calgary athlete Nate Smandych. Gaines even cut Smandych with an elbow. Gaines has a reputation for his elbows and cutting his opponents. In this bout Dawodu was determined to bring the win back to Calgary. As the fight started Gaines was fast off the line opening with a long lunging teep. It was to hit Dawodu and push him back. Gaines had one goal and that was to move forward quickly putting Dawodu on the defensive and on his back leg. Excited by taking the teep, Dawodu opened up with some counter shots that scored but Gaines proved he has a good chin. Gaines was to apply constant pressure throughout the first round. At the end of the first round, a big left hook from Dawodu was to intercept and drop Gaines for the bouts first knockdown.

In the second round Dawodu was to find his first answer to the Gaines puzzle. The clinch saw Dawodu landing some quick knees but where he really excelled was in the throwing department, pitching the American at will. There were some good exchanges with Gaines catching Dawodu's leg but being unable to capitalize because Dawodu would reposition while his leg was caught. This round saw Dawodu landing elbows and creating a cut. Towards the end of the round, an onslaught of elbows caught Gaines who was in trouble and the referee stepped in and gave a second standing eight. The bell was to ring before Dawodu could capitalize.

Round three had Gaines thinking about being pitched while in the clinch and Dawodu changed his tactics going to the elbows throwing five in a row that opened a bigger cut on the American. Dawodu then tried to capitalize looking to exploit this advantage but Gaines skillfully nullified the attacks in this round. The referee was to stop time and have the doctor check out the cut.

In the fourth round, Dawodu came out aggressively and started counter striking and falling into the clinch. Twice Dawodu pitched Gaines hard to the canvas with Dawodu landing on top. Gaines got up very slowly from the second throw and the referee checked to make sure Gaines was OK. As the two athletes engaged again a big left hook from Dawodu put Gaines on rubber legs and the referee jumped in and stopped the fight. Hakeem Dawodu was to win the bout by 4th round TKO. Sheldon Gaines made this a very exciting and competitive bout. Sheldon Gaines has great fighting spirit. Dawodu now contemplates his next opponent. The Purple People Eater... Matt Embree? Kevin Ross? Stay tuned.

Sandra Bastian (Canada) vs. Emily Wahby (Italy)

5 Rounds of 2 Minutes Professional Full MuayThai

It has been a somewhat challenging road back for Bastian. She had lost two matches in the MPL which was to shake her confidence a little. But those fights were also in a higher weight division than she usually fights at. The first loss was very controversial as Bastian gave her Brazilian opponent a standing eight and was on the way to finishing her opponent when the bell rang saving her opponent. A second loss was against a very well known British athlete who has since retired. "I felt Sandra won that fight but it did not turn out that way. It is universally agreed upon that the British girl did not look good. Sandra softened up the British girl who in turn lost two major fights after that specific bout in Holland", said coach Mike Miles. In this bout, Bastian was back to her normal weight for this bout. As the bout opened, Wahby was to dance and move and not want to stay close with the Canadian girl. Bastian was to press and stalk and demonstrated her dominance in the clinch scoring here. This round was Bastian's.

In round two, Bastian was still applying pressure and working and scoring in the clinch. Bastian was to take this round as well. Round three saw Wahby more active. Bastian was stalking but Wahby would intercept and score a punch or a kick and then move. Bastian's problem was that she was single shooting.

Round three was Wahby's. Round four had Bastian land some very good shots which resulted in closing the Italian girl's left eye. Wahby was to hit and move. This was a very close round and could have went either way. In the final round Wahby was her most active. She did not want to clinch and when the two athletes were close to each other Wahby would quickly clinch to try and nullify the elbows and knees. Bastian pursued and landed some good shots but Wahby tried her best to always finish the exchange. Another very close round. The bout was close and though Bastian pressed the whole fight she did not throw a lot of attacks. Vice versa Wahby would throw but almost always defensively and many would be blocked or miss. Sandra Bastian was to win the bout by unanimous decision.

Dejan Kajic (Vancouver/Fenton) vs. Matt LaPierre-Krayco (Calgary/Gentile)

5 Rounds of 3 Minutes Professional MuayThai - 175 lbs.

Peter Arbeau was originally supposed to fight in the bout. Originally he set up against the USA's Terris James. James decided he would fight elsewhere at the last moment and this left the promoter trying to find a replacement. Up came the opportunity for Dejan Kajic. Kajic who trains under the watchful eye of Kru Jason Fenton, was brought in to fight Arbeau. A week before the event Arbeau pulled out due to an injury and the race was on to find another opponent for Kajic. Vince Gentile's Dynamic Martial Arts came up with Matt LaPierre-Krayco who has been making a name for himself in MMA. LaPierre-Krayco took the fight and the match was on. These two entered the ring and provided a good match. In round one LaPierre-Krayko did most of the attacking and was scoring with low kicks and a few punches. Kajic was calm and boxed. Towards the end of the round a few very solid body punches from Kajic scored and slowed LaPierre-Krayco down. Round two Kajic boxed and taunted LaPierre-Krayco. LaPierre-Krayco opened quickly but took some solid body shots and in fact took a standing eight when he went down to a knee from a body shot. Round three saw Kajic land a head kick, one of the few kicks he threw in this bout. Kajic lands a body shot but is warned for it being low. Kajic then lands another body shot which hurts Krayco who counters with and lands a spinning elbow. Kajic lands another body shot and LaPierre-Krayco goes down. Kajic is warned to keep his body shots higher. Round four is a big round for Kajic who stalks and throws some good punches. Lands a couple of clean body shots which slow LaPierre-Krayco down. The final round opens aggressively. LaPierre-Krayco starts off fast but the pressure from Kajic starts to slow him down. Kajic lands a lunging jab which drops LaPierre-Krayco who gets a standing eight. Kajic lands a jump knee and a jump roundhouse closing the fight. Great effort from LaPierre-Krayco for taking the bout on short notice. Dejan Kajic was to win the fight by unanimous decision.

Max Carruthers (Calgary/Miles) vs. Kieran Mueller (Victoria/Mueller)

3 Rounds Bantamweight Full MuayThai - 120 lbs.

Very exciting match up. In round one Mueller danced and shot in some very good punch combinations while Carruthers probed back with some shots to see what his opponent would do. A fast left roundhouse to Carruthers rib cage appeared to have hurt but Mueller could not capitalize. In the second round Carruthers was tentative no more. He answered and started moving forward aggressively throwing long kicks, long punches and long knees. Mueller fought back and this was a very close round. Round three had Carruthers turn it on with jump knees, jump kicks, clinching knees and elbows. This was clearly the round for Carruthers. The decision was split with Max Carruthers winning by two rounds to one. Great exciting fight! This bout was to have Max Carruthers win the Roy Lilley Best in Town Fighter Trophy while Mueller was to win the Willie Williams Best Out of Town Fighter Trophy.

Hope Quinn (Calgary/Miles) vs. Chaleur Daniels (Calgary/Gentile)

3 Rounds of Featherweight Full MuayThai - 125 lbs.

A very exciting match which saw the action see saw back and forth. As the bell rung, Daniels moved forward aggressively using her hands while Quinn used her legs and knees to counter. First round was close and probably went to Daniels. In round two, Quinn came alive and pressed with punches, kicks and knees forcing Daniels to back pedal. Round three saw Quinn pressing but taking some counter shots and answering back with big kicks. The decision went to Quinn by unanimous decision. Exciting to watch these two battle.

Cody Evans (Airdrie/Bellegarde) vs. Viktor Vaigel (Calgary/Sawyer)

3 Rounds of Modified MuayThai - 175 lbs.

As soon as the bout started Evans was to realize he had a problem to solve. That was the fact that Vaigel is a southpaw. Vaigel is very strong and aggressive. The two clashed in the middle of the ring and exchanged. Vaigel landed a straight left and as Evans was going down he took a roundhouse kick to the ribs. Viktor Vaigel was to win this bout by first round TKO.

Brian Chandler (Calgary/Blanchard) vs. John Nguyen (Calgary/Gentile)

3 Rounds of Welterweight Modified MuayThai - 145 lbs.

Two first time athletes put on a good fight with advantages changing hands as the bout progressed. What was to work in Nguyen's favor was the pressing taking place during the bout and the scoring. Chandler did a good job but fought a little too defensively and this was to cost him the decision. John Nguyen was to take the win and the nod.
