I heard that this is a Karate style fighter that beat some good Muay Thai fighters and some Thais.
nobody
Posted: 2002-07-03 14:22:00
Yes it is true he has beat alot of 'muay thai' fighters but he has also lost to good muaythai fighters. His style is very akward and is mostly full contact style with spinning fists and kicks as his main weapon. He has no respect for any one he faces and is distasteful to watch. He is known as a raging alcoholic from what I hear. I hope jwp ko's him into permanent retirement.

I have fought on several shows with Manson in Japan and Morrocco and would have to agree with Nobody! He is the most akward fighter I have ever seen and his antics in and out of the ring are at times disgraceful. He also has no respect for anyone that is not paying him a purse. I have seen him get knocked out before and hope JWP does the same.

I saw Manson Gibson fight last November in Tulsa, OK and I thought the entire fight was a joke! The most impressive thing that he did was the back flip before and after the fight. There were a lot of amateur fights on the card and those guys showed alot more heart and skill than Manson! After all the hype that I've heard about this guy, I was extremeley disappointed!
Bryan popejoy
Posted: 2002-07-03 17:49:18
Despite some of his less than sportsman like antics, Manson is still a dangerous opponent. Akward? You bet. But thats his strength, he does things that nobody else does. No skill? I can't agree. I think it's quite skillful-not very pleasing to my personal tastes, but I can't deny the skill involved.

And, you've got to give the guy credit-he'll fight anybody(and has Tasis Petridis, Ian Jacobs, Changpeuk, Rick Roufus, Sayidkan Kiatpathan, Ernesto Hoost, Nick Kara...)

He has fought in Melbourne and Sydney when he fought in Melbourne I am sure he won against Tasis or was it someone else he fought...
When he fought in Sydney he won the tournament it was a Karate tournament.... maybe someone can shed some light on these 2 occassions...all I could remember he had a very good physic cut up to the max....and he had good kicks was pretty entertaining to me....Do not know what he was like personally though.......

He fought Ian Jacobs down here and made Ian look very ordinary, that was under kickboxing rules. He is very unorthidox but it seems to work for him.
It seems that the guys who try and work him out are the ones he beats the ones who just charge in and put him under presure have better luck.Good luck to JWP against him, hope there isnt to much weight difference.

Manson lives in Compton, Ca. And was training at Long Beach kickboxing but I think that will change for this fight with JWP. He is getting a car over the
weekend and now has a sponser. He seems to be getting on track and looking very focused.

As much as i do not care for Manson I have to agree that he is a dangerous opponent. He comes form all angles and you never know what is coming. I also have to disagree for the comment of him having lack of heart. When he fought Adam Watt he gave up 10 lbs and went toe to toe with him.

ive only seen a handful of his fights but it is amazing how accurate he
is with all his spinning backfists and heel kicks. and at this point all
his opponents know that those two techniques are about all he throws and
he is still successfull with them.

nobody

No but ive seen it a thousand times. I guess I have no life if I am watching saturday night live every week. my life hasnt been the same with the departure of molly shannon and will farrell but there is always 'superstar' replays on tape. Manson to me is immensely talented and crafty and has found ways to beat alot of good fighters but I dont think he is good for the sport. He beat changpuek fair and square with an awsome spin kick but he was a clown and totally disrespectful to him. He pushed changpueks mongkon upward with his forehead. Messing with a thais head is a no-no.I have heard so many stories about the outlandish antics to disrespect his oppnents that I have to believe he has no class of a world champion. Champions dont need to do that stuff to be legit. But if that is what the promoters want the public to see then I guess that is what they are going to see. jmho.

WEVE had periodically kickboxers and full contact- ( u.s.a. type ) fighters style flashy and strong kickers come into muay-thai in the u.k. and some of them do well as they ARE talented Individuals !! as i / we say
its not the style in the man BUT the man in the style ! Manson is obviously again as i / we say
a FIGHTING ATHLETE ! THEY CAN and DO get beat !! BUT you have to stay CLOSE and stick with the MUAY-THAI style ! And ALSO-
to beat these type of fighters is train with and against the higher aimed kicks and especially the SIDE and back kick ! esp: the SIDE kick as it is deadly !! and as good ! in fact can be better than a front TEEP kick sometimes !
ALSO TO BEAT THAT STYLE IS TO stay close AND clinch, knee defo: ! AND STICK TO THE GAME !
anyone else agree ? disagree ?? over to you ! your comments !! cheers

Sandy is 100% right, fight his fight and you'll lose.
I heard that Manson is a big Bruce Lee fan and lives by the saying"use what works for you".Thats why he looks so unorthodox,he mixes karate, kung fu,muay thai and anything else that he picks up.Ian Jacobs is a good kicker but Gibson smothered when he needed to and still got his kicks off,Ian looked very frustrated which didn't help him but thats part of Gibson as well, the psyche game is as important.Knees and elbows(if its full Thai rules)would be my call.
Good luck JWP>

Realistically how much can Manson Gibson have left??? He is getting over the hill, what does it tell you if Nick Kara beat him??? How many fights has Kara had??? 10,15 over a period of 10 years!! And before Gibson, the best guy he had fought was Daniel Tai of all people!!! Gibson beat Changpek, big deal, Chang is a hazard to his own health!!!
Gee Tee
Posted: 2002-07-08 00:54:10
Gibson is about 40 years old. I'm pretty sure he was born in 1961. I have met Gibson before and talked to him. He seemed like a pretty nice guy to me, willing to talk and everything. Gave me his full attention while talked. I think his act is just part of his ring face.

I think you are right Manson is 40 or 41 and I agree a lot of what Manson does out side the ring the day before and the of the fight is just to see how far he can mentally push his opponent, if he can get under your skin there's a good chance he will rock your world. I have seen 5 of his fights and been at the weigh ins and he does this every time with the same results...even at his age he is a very dangerous opponent for JWP, with 100 pro. wins not many fighters can say they really put the hurt on Manson...he doean't stand still for very long

Jwp,

Brother please take this fight serious Manson is not to be underestimated.
Manson style is very hard to fight against it won't be the same as you
were to fight a Muay Thai guy. The "EXCHANGE PATTERN" will be different
don't walk straight in as I've seen you do alot with Thai's.
This guy Manson he is clever and he will bait you to come in then
he will inch back a little. While you move foward till he finds the right distance. He will either throw the devastating back kick or the side kick
maybe to trick you. He will miss purposely with back kick then come with the
back fist.

How to beat him you have to play his game - get him mad
stare him down. His opponents has never dish back the shit he's dish to
opponents. During the fight you have to be intelligent, wave him in
to come to you. As in Thailand the trainers would say "Khoo" means
pretty much to show your opponents that you have no respect or fear of them.
Make it partially a mental game, because that is probably what he is
gonna do to you. Study him carefully and win it for us Thai's(he calls
himself the "THAI KILLER")

It seems to me that if JWP loses this fight a lot of poor little hearts are gonna be broken. AWWWWWW Get over it folks! JWP is a Pro right? Or is that only when he wants to be? The man knows what he's doing I'm sure that he'll train just as hard and show up to put grandpa Manson away. The truth is no matter what JWP is the one who will wear the lovely "L" on his forehead. Why? Because Manson is old and not the same fighter he used to be so if JWP beats him, he beat an old man that has gone beyond his twilight years. And if JWP loses, well lets just say that you will be seeing a lot more of me and the dreadmeister on Ax. Good luck JWP, something tells me you're gonna need lots of it!

Can you give some more info on the Harrison brothers? Were they the best Muay Thai fighters to ever come out of England. I have both their fights with Coban on tape.

David Lucas,

Were you at the fight between Coban and Danny Steele? Can you elaborate on Coban's move to a farm in upstate New York?
David Lucas

yes i was there. supposedly coban trained danny steele for a while and
wasnt happy about fighting a student.
he looked pretty good and handled him pretty easily.
a couple of friends of mine were training with him here in new york.
he had just changed gyms and suddenly announced that he was retiring, so they
were disappointed. i dont really know any more than that.

I heard the same thing about Danny Steele being a student of his at Muay Thai Academy of America. Danny was also a student of Saeksan Janjira, who is a good friend of Coban. I heard that's why Coban took it easy on him. Were you training with Coban when he was teaching at Ultimate Gym?

Talk about archaeology - a post from almost 12 years ago !

Don't know where you can watch these fights, I think I have most of them laying around somewhere. Youtube maybe ?

The fight with Petridis took place in Australia and was sanctioned by the KICK org.

Coban fight was a Dennis Warner event so it was probably under WCK or IKKC. Petit fight may have been also.

Verheye fight took place in Japan, so it was one of their orgs that sanctioned.
