I went to the F1 Boxing show in Melbourne last night and thought I'd post the results and a few pictures as some of the fighters have a kickboxing history, and some still Kickboxing (I hope). Actually, I'm a bit concerned about Kiwi Mike Cope. I've seen him boxing far too many times without a Kickboxing match in between. I hope Cope hasn't given up Kickboxing and MT.
Nick Kara KO'd Dean Keady early in the fourth round. Kara looked realy comfortable boxing, and I think he'd do pretty well at it.
Tosca Petridis defeated Paul Murdock points decision in a ten round fight. A pretty good fight over all, with Tosca throwing lots of big solid punches.
Sam Soliman defeated Mike Cope points dec. Soliman was all over Mike. I've seen Cope box a few times now, and he allways seems to do pretty well. He's a tough dude that just keeps slugging it out, but last night he looked totally different to the other times. I think Soliman's experience was just too much for him to try and match.
Colin Wilson convincingly defeated Jimmy Thunder by points decision. Jimmy just didn't seem to fire up at all during the entire fight, while Wilson was tagging him consistently with jabs. Whenever we'd see them in an exchange flurry of punches, Wilson seemed to land the majority of the bigger shots every time. I'm not sure how long ago Jimmy's last fight was, but he seemed to be pretty rusty last night.
Paul Briggs KO'd Anthoney Bigini very early in the first round. It seemed like it must have been inside of 90 seconds. Bigini was dropped but got back up to fight. Briggs soon hurt and dropped him a second time, and the ref just stopped the fight.
Tosca is in great shape.I have not seen him as fit for many years. As usual Tosca fought a quality opponent in Paul Murdoch and i must say one of the few in both boxing and kickboxing who refuses to fight palookas.Murdoch is ranked No 10 by the WBA and is one hell of a good boxer. This is an oportune time for Tosca to capitalise on the win and fight his way back up the rankings.Although even Pauls fans thought Tosca should have won a unanimous decision.Paul will be back as he has the same courage and intestinal fortitude that made his father one of Australias best in the 60s/70s.No matter how Tosca fares from here on at 37 years of age it was one hell of a win.
Paul Briggs needs to fight better oposition but being based in Australia is hard.Rod Waterhouse has done one hell of a job with Paul and maybe they should both contemplate moving to the USA in order to get quality sparring/fights on a weekly basis.Anthony is a tough lad and has foght the 'whos who' in Australasian boxing over the last 6 yeasrs but his best days are over.
Nick Kara fought a very experienced fighter in Dean Keady. If my memory serves me right Dean fought Nick Tetoros many years back in Kickboxing. The experience will assist Kara in learning the skills needed to do well in boxing. It is hard when one has a handful of bouts with mostly early kos as they may look spectacular but in the long run, one learns little.
Jimmy Thunder was always an up and down fighter.Even back to his wars with the late Craig Peterson in the early 90s.He stated prior to this bout that Kali Meehan and Bob Mirovic would not fight him hence he had to settle for Colin.I do not know if this was the case but they will be lining up to fight him after that performance. As for his wishes to bring Mike Tyson to Melbourne within the next year-Well as the Beatles said in their 60s classic "Lucy in the sky with diamonds".Enough said.
